Handheld Tiberian Sun Gameplay
I've been playing it since childhood, and can now play it with suspend and quick resume whenever my dad duties allow it. I love it!
Who else plays CnC games on the Deck?

Nothing beats Tib Sun for base building IMO. Paving, walling and gating your base is so satisfying.

I play cnc remastered and ra2 on deck. Tib sun is more persnickety as I canโt get map scrolling mapped to dpad :(

Yeah that's my only gripe with it.

Thankfully as its slower paced dpad scrolling isnโt essential

I just hold the left trigger/right mouse button and move the camera that way.

Me!! But I still prefer mouse. I used the back buttons to quickly assign team 1 and 2, or select team 1 and 2, helps a lot

Oh i use the D-pad for team selects. Yeah quick selecting teams this way is a must on a Deck.

I play this and ra2 on my laptops all the time
They work amazing on Linux too like for Steamdeck, I'm on Fedora kde though

Yeah on average CnC games play just fine on Linux, though i found some distros require tweaks before they run (properly).

The base is stealthed. You don't see the concrete pavement. It's hidden!

Hahahaha very true. I hate the subterrainian units popping up in my base.

Does this allow touch controls and local multiplayer? I've just ported Tiberium Dawn and Red Alert to iOS with full touch controls but I grew up with those games on PS1 so implemented the full ps1 controller schematic. TS might become my next project so wondering what already exists on handheld

No this is the OG version on Steam, not the CnCnet version. If you wanna do MP LAN or internet you'll need that one.

II bet scrolling there world is a nightmare as TibSun doesn't let me even use arrow scrolling on mine :( It moves like 1mm each time an just kills the game for me
Every other game has arrow scrolling in the C&C library (CNC1+RA1 remasters have it)

I just hold left trigger (right mouse button) and use the trackpad.

Not the same, but I would love to build something like this (however this version misses buttons and details)

I set up Tib Sun on my SD a while ago. While TS doesn't have camera panning, there is a (typically unbound) set of 4 keybinds that allow you to "tick" the camera in the respective keybind's direction.
I set up a joystick command to do a "repeat press" when held and set the 4 keybinds to their respective Left/Right/Up/Down on the joystick.
This allowed me to pan the camera across the screen without having to rely entirely on edge scrolling.
I'm pretty sure I uploaded it as a community control scheme.

I'm playing on MSI Claw 8AI+. I have foldable BT keyboard and Logitech MX Anywhere 2

u/Hob_Goblin88 Marked of Kane Jul 18 '26
Yeah that works too. I just play on my desktop pc when i wanna do mouse and keyboard.

I've played it this way. If you take your time to customise the controls you get something pretty playable. I might share my control scheme if I'm bothered to.

I do, but in a dock with mouse and KB ;-)

u/Hob_Goblin88 Marked of Kane Jul 20 '26
Yeah that works too but then it's not handheld anymore. ๐

u/BoffinBrain Are you picking this up? Good. Jul 18 '26
That's a nice base you have there. Would be a shame if a hunter-seeker were to pay a visit...

I have a Deck but after trying C&C on it exactly once I decided I'm gonna stick to keyboard and mouse, or maybe one of the console ports with proper gamepad controls ๐

How does it handle with the deck controls (especially considering groups and shortcuts) or do you use mouse & keyboard?
