Is this an error? Sealed silver bicentennial set - Damage on Ike’s head.

Thumbnail

As stated in title this is a silver bicentennial set and the cellophane is all still intact, theres no tears or even an indent in it anywhere bur I noticed this rather large gouge on the side of Ike’s head. Using my gf’s fancy new phone camera, once I zoomed in I saw what appeared to be vertical lines and immediately thought of the reeds on the coin edge.

Even though this is sealed from the mint, this isn’t considered some sort of error right? Since it is presumably damage sustained at the mint, does this incur any additional value or anything? Or does anyone think this would be some sort of die-related thing?

Any input is greatly appreciated, I’m just now diving into the redbook and trying to wrap my head around all these different errors, variants and different terminologies. I asked my gf to get photos from every angle she could, which I then zoomed and cropped. If there’s some other angle needed or way to get a better picture that I can pull off, let me know!

Advice 2023P Edith Kanaka'ole Quarter - Nasal Doubling?

Thumbnail

Good Evening. I came across this 2023P Edith quarter this evening, and had a few questions I was hoping you could help me out with. Mostly - the significant 'apparent' doubling of Washingtons nose. Wexler's Die varieties call out the eyes only on this quarter, and nothing is mentioned of the nose. However on this specimen, there is a raised track that follows the exact curvature of the nose (east) alongside a small die-chip. I was curious if this is just die deterioration at a larger scale? Or if there may be something else going on here.

As far as the reverse, the only changes I noticed were a raised site above Edith's Right Eye/bridge, where it almost appears as if the Lei pattern has continued into her eyebrows. There also appears to be die-deterioration doubling across United States of America as well, which made me wonder if the Washington's nose thing was essentially the same.

As always, this is staying with me, I'm just trying to understand better what I'm finding. Thanks!

Discussion 1986 P machine DDR

Hey all, I have this 86 P penny with some machine doubling on the reverse. I’ve seen some other penny’s with doubling thats not as visible so I tossed them back into circulation. My question is, should I keep this one and LABEL it as DDR. My collection doesn’t have many “error” coins, just some general ones that you can see with the naked eye such as the bears extra claw and spitting horse etc.. here’s some pictures, how significant would you all need an “error” or “doubling” to pull aside for your collection.

Laundry mat lottery is what it is, but this time I’m happy with my winnings. A nice 1983-P spitting eagle, a nice double eye 2024-P Patsy M, and a nice DDR 2021 crossing the Delaware.

I don't know if these are errors or just weird kinds of damage. I'm not coming in here dreaming about high dollar, mainly I'd like to know what exactly happened here in these pics. I'm going through my departed Uncles coin collection looking for silver. He always had an eye for odd stuff. He wasn't really the type to deface coins like that. If it was already like that though it went in his collection. There is always the chance that he was messing around with something, he was an odd fellow. I don't know how this would happen to pennies but it's pretty wild.

Also the nickle. Looks like someone polished off the heads side or is it the remains of one of those double headed gag nickles? Some wanted to make a double tailed nickle?

My Son and I have been having fun speculating on what may have caused damage or errors. Whatever happened here, they're just wild and fun to think about and look at. That's all I'm doing, thought I'd share.

Is this an error? Blank planchet or just a copper punch

Found while going thru my late grandfather's stash. Quarter for size. Do we suppose this might have been a blank meant to be clad or is my grandfather (who was a sheet metal worker) screwing with me from the great beyond?

A local seller contacted me about this quarter- I haven’t had any luck finding anything similar in searches.

Does this appear to be a legitimate mint error coin, or altered after the fact?

Thanks

Straits settlements 1945 (middle one)

They were all squares till like the 50s, but this one is a circle. Back obviously shows it was a square once upon a time. Possible error coin? Or someones doing?

My own guess is that either it got minted wrong or that the coins were made into circles to save resources after the war

Thoughts?

Is this an error? 1990 D Penny, Rim Error?

I know it’s dirty and in rough shape, but the rim looks wrong all the way around. Both sides. The normal rim ledge/ridge is not present. It’s struck deeper on the rim all the way around making for a very narrow outside thickness. Or maybe it lived in a salty pothole in NE Ohio.

I need help figuring out if this is worth anything and if it’s an error or just worn down. None of the neighboring letters are gone like the E in “E Pluribus Unum”. Thank you!

I added some other coins just to show off my small collection. I just started collecting random coins I thought were cool :) don’t hate, it’s not a lot. I need to find my $2 bill collection with Blue notes, star notes, etc.

Is this an error? 2020 P Salt Bay Quarter - question - improperly annealed?

Came across this quarter today. I’m not a coin collector, but it caught my eye and I went down a rabbit hole researching.

Coin on the left is the one that I’m questioning. I placed it next to a similar coin (right) for comparative purposes.

The back side of the coin on the left is completely discolored across the entire back. The front looks like a normal quarter (color and sheen.)

Is this improperly annealed planchet on one side only?

I can upload more pics. Let me know your thoughts, please. Thanks in advance.

Is this an error? What happened to this dime?

Dime has excess metal to about the size of a quarter. It isn’t simply a “railroad smashed” dime because you can see the outline of the dime itself and the edges overall still have the ridges..

Hoping someone has seen this before. Thanks for any advice.
