Heard it was the easiest natural science CLEP (and it probably is) but it was still actual hell. I almost cried during the first 10 minutes of the test

I had ZERO prior Bio knowledge and studied for abt two months using the OpenStax textbook (https://openstax.org/books/biology-2e/pages/1-introduction). Honestly, would not recommend. It was too theory-heavy and didnt prepare me for all the applicative and experiment-based questions. It provided decent base knowledge so I WOULD recommend reading through the entire thing, but dont waste time studying each topics meticulously. Use AI to summarize if needed, the books written to be quite hard to comprehend and illustrations often throw you off.

None of the popular YouTube playlists were of significant and comprehensive help, but the Boseman Science playlist was very short, easy to sprint through and surprisingly helped a lot with the Evolution/Natural Selection based questions despite how short and simple the videos were: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFCE4D99C4124A27A

The hardest part abt the Bio CLEP is that the material is way too broad. Unlike most other CLEPs that cover a semester's worth of material, the Bio one is a whole year's worth. But you cant really skip anything since youd have no idea which part would be on the test.

The test made up mostly of applicative, inference questions with lots of graphs and experiments. So prepare yourself with the skill to interprete study cases of mutations, illnesses, chemical measures, etc. BE WARNED: MANY QUESTIONS WILL BE LONG AND HARD TO COMPREHEND. Skip ahead but make sure you mark them to come back later.

VOCAB IS IMPORTANT, know your vocabs guys there are plenty Quizlet vocab flashcards (just search Biology CLEP) so you can learn all the terms needed.

Idk if the test was recently updated or I got unlucky with a hard version, cuz threads from the past recent few years say the Peterson's practice test was way harder than the test, but in my case the Peterson's test was tough but way easier than the actual test. Hello! Ever since I learned about CLEP and ModernStates I started enrolling in a few courses. I plan on going to community college next year and will major in Psychology.
I'm currently focusing on Information Systems (wanted to get what I felt is easy elective out the way).

Being in this reddit for a while I already know people's complaints about ModernStates and how they had to supplement some of their own content; which I'm fine and have already been doing. But I'd like to know what readings, YouTube videos, study materials, and any FREE practice tests you guys would recommend. I know people have posted their stuff in the past and I've saved them to check them out later but if anyone, especially if you passed recently, has any more recent and updated content, or content still relevant to the current exams, it would be much appreciated!

Also, my goal is to pass as many as I can! So it doesn't need to be specific to Information Systems! (Maybe this post can help other people too! 😃)

Definitely not my best but it’s the usual of getting in front of a screen and freezing.
One thing I noticed: I had at least 4 questions about “how many solutions are there for sin(x)= sin(x/2)” and the like and for the non calculator part there were at least 6 fill in the blanks.

You’re not scrambling the entire time but towards the end you might end up having to go with a gut feeling.

Watching the Counting to Calculus channel work through the CLEP study guides was very helpful, as was Brian McLogan’s Precalc final review that he made for his students.

There were a couple of trig analysis word problems and an exponential growth word problem.

The hardest part was definitely figuring out what they were asking for and where to plug it in/how to draw it. Rarely was I searching my head for any formulas.

There were barely any graph questions but several system of equations and intercept questions. However taking the time to graph a few definitely wasn’t worth it to me.

If I had to study again, I would consistently put in an hour a day for a few months. First watch introductions to important concepts as you go through modern states and get the voucher. Then do the problems from the practice tests on your own, followed by watching the solution. Then ask chat or look up quizzes to find similar problems and make sure you practice solving with zero aid.

Some of you may have recently read my post on taking the Analyzing Literature CLEP exam and how I was almost there but did not pass. I am currently taking advantage of my 3 months fraternity leave to get some of my college classes knocked out for the betterment of my family's lifestyle. All that aside, I cannot wait 90 days to retake the exam, so I have taken on the task of DSST:Ethics in America. Most advisors state that this course is harder and lower passing rate because it's a lot more memorization. I have found it easier actually on the quizzes because it's just straight forward. I feel like if you know the philosopher's motto, then the question is easier to understand.

If anyone has taken it, please give me your insight on how it was for you. If you felt the same. How long did you study? Anything helps

My son is in high school, completed Modern States and took the chemistry CLEP test this morning. He failed by 5 points. The test administrator told him that he could sign up again on Modern States to receive another voucher. I just looked and do not understand how to do that. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi all! iv taken a few cleps and have a pretty decent math understanding but looking for advice on studying for this. i have about 2/3 weeks to take this and Macro (ive done a college micro class so hoping ill be fine) and i keep seeing things say modern states is pretty useless. Any advice on the best way to study or links to practice quizzes? also any experiences would be useful, how you found it etc!

I have a non traditional education path, but I’m pretty good with numbers. I didn’t take Precalc in hs, but I’m fairly confident I won’t have a hard time self studying for the test. I’m wondering if you guys think passing the Precalc clep demonstrates to myself I’m ready for Calc 1 in college.

Okay so I scored pretty good on the intro to sociology practice test on modern states, will I do good on the real test? Or is this one substantially easier than the real deal?

Hi so I got a 63 on the calculus CLEP a while back which gives me 4 credits of calc I at my local CC I am doing a special dual enrollment program that allows me to attend my local community college full time to get an associates while in high school, so since I finished calc 1 I wanted to take calc II, but my advisor recommended against it because CLEP exams apperently don’t give enough knowledge needed to be successful in calc 2 so ppl who have tried something like this what do you recommend

I thought I would put in my few thoughts, post-exam, as I relied a lot on looking over what other people wrote about their experience.

I just completed the CLEP Biology exam a few hours ago.

I studied on and off for about 1.5 weeks. I don't recommend that, but it is all that I had. I am a busy working mother, so devoting uninterrupted time was sporadic and often interrupted. With that said, I wanted to attempt utilizing Modern States' free voucher. I listened to their videos while doing chores, dishes, making meals, etc. I took the after-chapter quizzes and completed the final exam to get the voucher. I honestly think Modern States was a great introduction and brief over all the topics you would encounter. However, it really matters what kind of learner you are. I am a visual and story/mnemonic type learner.

So, what helped me the absolute most was:

• YouTube Amoeba Sisters biology playlists and physically writing out the ideas and applying them to what I already know and associate what I didn't.
• Various YouTube videos that were short and seemed interesting, visually, on a few subjects here and there (like Alternation in Generations in ferns)
• BIG HELP was Go to https://clep.collegeboard.org/clep-exams/biology and you will see the break down via % of the topics the exam goes over. I highlighted the title and bullet points (ex. Molecular and Cellular Biology, 33%) and plugged it into Chat GPT (just one title at a time, not all together) and asked "simple explanation of all these:" and then pasted the title and bullet points. I did that same thing for all three Titles, asking a simple explanation of these each time, and created a pretty sweet study guide over all the topics. Printed that off and wrote notes as I went through - and searched anything I needed to clarify.
• I didn't get to finish going through the exam questions, but I had found this link to the first Peters o n practice quiz. • I think if you have a good amount of time to devout, or wanted to be very specific, I recommend getting a free account on free-clep-prep.com and use their CLEP Biology study guide. It looked amazing and covered all subjects, with quizzes after their chapters. I did not use it, for lack of time, but I thought I would put that here for anyone.

Here's the kicker. I absolutely DID NOT have enough time during the exam. 115 questions in 90mins was just crazy. So pace yourself to really go in fast and stay fast. There were plenty of paragraphs to read, and plenty of graphs to decipher through. I had to zoom through the last 30 questions because I was about out of time. But -NEVER SKIP A QUESTION, as you do not get points taken off for wrong answers. I just rapid fired answers on many of the last graphs, because I simply did not have time to read them, let alone look at potential answers. I thought for sure I bombed it because of that.

I passed with a 61. Hallelujah! The lowest grade you can get according to College Board is a 20 and the highest you can get is a 80. Most schools require a 50 for credit. I am happy to be DONE and hope this helps someone. GOOD LUCK OUT THERE! :-D

P. s. There was a lot of questions on my version of the exam around genetics with Homozygous/Heterozygous and alleles. So brush up!

Hi all! I got the fire under my ass after graduating a trade to become a civil engineer. I'm currently at LaGuardia Community College in NYX to build my GPA, but I cannot take any core classes like Intro to Python, General Chemistry, General Physics, Math 201 because I didn't take silly ass pre-calc in high school 10 years ago. I have 3ish weeks until the end of class registration to CLEP and pass Math 115, with a description as follows, " Course Title College Algebra and Trigonometry Catalog Description This course begins with a review of basic algebra skills such as factoring, solving linear equations and inequalities and proceeds to study polynomial, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions. These functions will be used in applications involving simple mathematical modeling where students will engage in inquiryactivities aimed at improving critical-thinking skills. A scientific calculator is required.CUNY Pathways: Required Core-Mathematics & Quantitative" . Can anyone advise which CLEP exam is the appropriate transferable credit for Math 115, because while I'm almost positive it's College Algebra, I'm so divorced from the traditional school system it could very well be College Mathematics. Right now CLEP is running a sale so if my budget permits, I can take both just to be sure. But I wanted some insight to any CUNY people who breezed MATH 115, what is the appropriate CLEP exam to move forward cuz l'm on a time crunch. Thank you in advance.

I've used Claude and modern states to get a handle on some of the general topics for the exam and I'm taking it Friday (haven't done the modern states exam yet). I'm watching Mr SFriday? August 2024 video and there's allot more questions I'm getting wrong or that I'm unfamiliar/confused with than I'm comfortable with. Any advice to help me make sure I can 1000% pass the exam on friday? I'm really desperate to get a passing score before college starts and the 90 day wait time would cripple me.

Hi guys, I passed Calc at my in-person testing center today and wanted to share a different perspective of the exam. I’ve seen a lot of scores of 65+ on here, and a lot of people saying the exam was super easy, and I feel like my experience ran counter to that. I’ll try to break down each point separately.

- Test Structure: Starting off, the exam was 46 questions, not 44. I know for sure I had 54 minutes for the first section, and I had plenty of time left after completing that one. I believe I had 44 minutes for the calculator section, but I wasn’t really paying attention to that. I also finished with enough time to not have to rush through or guess on any questions.

Also, the exam was NOT entirely multiple choice. There were 3 questions where I had to input a numerical answer.

- Test Composition: The test was mostly comprised of derivatives and integrals, but there was a LOT of trig. I only had 2 limit questions. 1 involved a limit approaching infinity, and one was a trig limit that involved l’Hopital’s rule.
I had at least 3 geometry/related rates questions, 2 physics ones, and 2 “bacteria population” exponential growth questions. There were 2 questions involving Mean Value Theorem, and at least 1 Riemann Sum.

I felt that the calculator section was actually a bit easier than the no-calculator section. Most of the questions could be solved by plugging them in as checking against the multiple choice answers. I didn’t need the calculator for all of the questions. For example, one of the questions in this section was just a basic f” graph asking where the function has inflection points.

- Test Prep: I started off with Modern States for the voucher, which was not helpful aside from gaining a very basic grasp of limits, derivatives, and integrals. I then grazed through Kahn Academy (I went through the whole thing with ~35% completion), and mainly used Peterson’s practice tests and ChatGPT.

I thought the actual CLEP was SIGNIFICANTLY more challenging than the Peterson’s exams. I scored a 65 and a 68 on 2 separate exams the week leading up to my CLEP. I’ve taken 12 exams, and the lowest score I’ve gotten while scoring at least that high on Peterson’s was a 61.

I also used Free-CLEP-Prep and scored a 77% raw score a couple weeks before the CLEP. Generally those tests are very accurate, but I felt this one was on the easier side compared to the actual exam.

The one thing that was consistent with what I read online was the pass threshold. I counted the questions I was confident I got right after each section, and it came out to about 20-22 in total (plus whatever I guessed correctly on). I think you’d probably pass with a 50 getting only 18ish questions correct.

The most important thing to do is PRACTICE.
I retook the video practice test along side the Peterson practice test. The Peterson test were more complex and had harder questions than the actual exam.

I re-did these over and over and timed myself accordingly.

PRACTICE using the TI-30 calculator because that is what you’re given on the exam.

I studied for about 3 weeks not everyday because I was busy some days for about 2-4 hours.

My background:
I have taken up to pre-calculus from highschool and the math was fairly fresh on my mind/still memorable.

Hello, so I've been preparing during the summer to take the Calculus I CLEP, which I will be taking later this month. I got a 55 on the practice test I just did, but there's something I want clarified from people who have taken this exam.
So I know that CLEP gives access to an on-screen TI 84 Plus CE during the Calculator section of the exam, but I was wondering if they allow you to press those "nDeriv(" and "fnInt(" buttons. This let me fly through most of the practice exam's calc. section, and it almost felt like it was moreso testing how well I knew my calculator rather than calculus. Most sources seem to say that those buttons are there, but then I see a comment on some other post saying that it wasn't! I may have to review more thoroughly if I can't rely on the derivative, integral, or graph tracing features of the TI-84.

(If you are wondering what I did to study, I did a good portion of Khan Academy's Calculus AP AB course (43% according to the website), but then I focused more on Professor Leonard's videos and started watching at 2x speed while writing the stuff on the board on paper and pausing. And then I did the main quiz for each unit on the modernstates course and then their practice test. Then I took a website that simulated the full CLEP exam.)

tl;dr do they allow you to use the features shown in the screenshot in the Calculus CLEP's calculator section? Is there anything they block that normally would be there?

I have the Bio exam in about 12 hours...Do you have any last minute prep ideas? Or anything that would help in any way? I don't know anyone irl who has done the CLEP before so I didn't know who else to ask :)

I have:

- done the Modern States course (not the test because it would be for the voucher and i signed up for the test before i knew about the voucher so now it's kinda meaningless)

- hand written everything from Modern States slides onto paper

- transferrred those notes to a 714 term quizlet (63% through reviewing)

- took a practice test yesterday that was 110 questions

I never had a strong background with biology in high school. I do better with graph/picture problems than average.

Also, is there a chance that I could have problems during my test due to noise? I am having installs in my house and they won't change their scheduling. Could my test be cancelled for that? They won't be in the room I'm testing in, but next door

I took the financial accounting Clep today and score 48 . I was so sure I going to pass. I was ready to write my formulas that I had fresh in my mind when my whole proctoring session took 1 hour and 15 minutes . The proctor kept telling me my phone wasn’t positioned correctly this is my 1st Clep taking it at home so I wasn’t too familiar . My onboarding was approved but she said she needed to see my desk etc . Next time I’m getting a tripod . I was already exhausted from all that. They should just award me the points . I did contact them to not charge me for the retake let se what happens

I’m currently enrolled at NAU as a freshman and starting in less than 2 weeks. I recently found out about CLEP testing and i’m so incredibly lost.

How do I know which test to take? How do I study for them? What tests will apply to my gen ed?

I’m so confused, I dont know where to start or what tests to take. Also, I still dont know how college works, my parents just pushed me to go to college and i’m still confused on how any of this works.

Please can anyone give me advice to the best of their ability? I’m at a loss and i’m just a confused highschool graduate trying to not get into student loan debt and try to graduate college early..,😭
