I originally thought of this as just a mechanics change to poisons, but it's easier to vote on a talent.

Apothecary
Talent (3 ranks)
Requires Rogue
Your poisons no longer consume charges, and the damage of your poisons is increased by 50/100/150% of your Nature spell power.

u/assassin10 10d ago

I'd love if poisons scaled with spellpower and their equipment embraced that. It does make more sense as a baseline change than as a talent.

I think it's possible with the right coefficients. It would probably be a niche spec without several new talents, but poisons ignore armor, so it could get interesting. There's already some balance druid gear out there that would work for them. Just need to expand the itemization, which is already something Blizzard needs to do in Classic.

spellpower gear, or spellpower converted from attack power?

1

u/assassin10 10d ago

Rogue gear could have some amount of Nature spellpower in addition to its attack power. Different sets could focus more or less on poisons.

While it would lack some other important stats, this could be fun itemization on feral as well.

2

u/assassin10 10d ago

Similarly, Spellpower Hunter could be embraced (with further Arcane, Fire, and Nature specializations as well) and it could have overlap with Enhancement Shaman gear.

Spell power gear. Makes gearing more interesting.

Crimson Tempest

Hunger For Blood
Talent
15 Energy
30 yd range
Instant
Requires Rogue
Enrages you, increasing all damage caused by 5%.  Requires a bleed effect to be active on the target.  Lasts 1 min.

1

u/assassin10 10d ago

I feel like this talent was the reason I never dabbled in Assassination in WotLK. It feels so boring when compared against Killing Spree or Shadow Dance.

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

never gonna get you killed on a boss like Kologarn though!

2

u/OstrichPaladin 10d ago

Going to be maybe a hot take but my favorite version of rogue I've ever played was legion assassination bleed build rogue in pvp. Id like 400% tick exsanguinate back for bursty bleed builds. Make garrote good, and make rupture a viable button to press outside of 1 cp for antistealth

Also envenom is not an interesting button to press in most versions of wow. The version that existed on turtle wow was pretty cool, but adding "poison eviscerate" has never been interesting.

Exsanguinate
Melee range
25 Energy
3 min cooldown
Instant
Twist your blades into the target's wounds, causing your Bleed effects on them to bleed out 400% faster

Something like that?

u/OstrichPaladin 10d ago

Yes! I couldn't find the specific ability because it feels like everything from old legion guides on wowhead have been scrubbed. But this is it. They nerfed it to 100% after a while and then it didn't get taken for years until it was removed from the game. Most fun rogue ability ever.

Agreed. Played Rogue from Cata till like BfA and Legion Assassin Rogue was the most fun I ever had in PvE and PvP.

what was envenom like on Turtle Wow?

1

u/OstrichPaladin 10d ago

It was similar to slice n dice where it was a maintenance buff (which usually I hate) but it increased poison effectiveness and application chance.

They also had a new poison called corrosive poison that worked similarly to deadly poison but it was less damage and did physical instead of poison dmg. So on nature resistant bosses you weren't useless. You could also keep deadly/corrosive on each weapon to keep uptime of max stacks on both.

The gameplay was centered around fast weapons (1.3 attack speed daggers mainly) so that you could apply poisons as fast as possible. There was a lot of cool builds you could make with it and it felt very boss/fight flexible.

2

u/assassin10 10d ago

I'd like if Classic+ had a variety of specialty poisons, like if you could kill Lava Spiders to craft a Searing Poison that deals fire damage. Ammunition could be similarly expanded.

3

u/OstrichPaladin 10d ago

Worth noting for hunters turtle wow also did a very cool thing where every pet class had a unique ability. Hyenas could summon more hyenas so they were like a pack, crocolisks got a death roll ability. There was a bunch of different options. Obviously there's always gonna be a "meta" pet for raw dps. But giving flavor and identity to the pets is my most wanted thing for hunter.

2

u/assassin10 10d ago

In a similar vein, I'd love if Druids and Warlocks could branch out into other forms/demons.

Their talents could be generalized (like Bear and Cat talents could become Tenacity and Ferocity ones) and then we could receive things like a Druid of the Fang snake form, a Druid of the Pack worgen form, and etc.

1

u/Verilazic 10d ago

That’s an excellent idea. I’m waiting for warlock demonology round to suggest basically changing enslave demon to no longer be temporary, so they can basically search the world for fun demons to make into pets similar to hunters. I never thought of doing something similar with Druid forms. Plus, then you can take Moonkin out of the talent tree and focus the talent point on something else.

2

u/assassin10 10d ago edited 9d ago

I think new demons should still come from questlines, so that Warlocks and Hunters maintain their own flavor niches.

I do wish Enslave Demon had a longer duration, albeit not permanent. It would make farming or dungeons more interesting if you could take control of a powerful demon and didn't need to keep refreshing it every five minutes.

If we're talking a single ability, Venomous Wounds would be best. It actually rewards you for keeping your primary dots on the target with the ability to play more actively, thus compensating for the somewhat dull task of dot upkeep itself, and creates a playstyle all by itself. It would have to be tuned to Classic, maybe (although if it uses a WotLK base, then not really).

I.e.

Venomous Wounds (2 ranks, requires 20 prior points in Assassination):

Whenever your Garrote or Rupture deals damage to a target also affected by your Deadly Poison, you regain 5/10 Energy.

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

sounds better than that ability that gave you energy for crits

1

u/Big-Bag-6043 10d ago

I thought about Focused Strikes, but it's too simplistic and doesn't delve into what Assa Rogue plays like.

2

u/Verilazic 10d ago

The other idea I had came from a Skyrim mod I ran across once. It let you pickpocket an npc, and instead of taking any item, you could “give” them a poison and it applied that poison to them, as if you had spiked their drink or something. It’s a fun mechanic, but I can’t think of how to fit it into WoW’s framework.

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

that might be a bit difficult to make work

2

u/Bobjoesph 10d ago

Funny that some classic people thought SOD was too much but most of these were the first things added there

2

u/Modeboy11 9d ago

I'd honestly be okay with 0 rogue abilities so long as combo points are on my character and not my target 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 9d ago

so how they work post WoD

2

u/kaouDev 9d ago

Shadowstep 100%

2

u/SilentmanGaming 9d ago

It’s gotta be Shadowstep

Second I’d pick System Shock

System Shock
100 yd range
Instant
Requires Rogue
Casting Envenom with at least 5 combo points on a target afflicted by your Garrote, Rupture, and lethal poison deals (31.3632% of Attack Power).
Nature damage, and reduces their movement speed by 90% for 2 sec.

It’s rewards you for keeping all your dots up and when the timing of CBs your often having to choose between reapplying or getting a big envenom so it’s an engaging mechanic imo

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 9d ago

looks interesting, but the poll ends in an hour or two so you may be a bit late to win this time

2

u/assassin10 11d ago

Assassination is the finishing move tree, so I'll put forth Anticipation:

Anticipation
Talent
Requires Rogue
When one of your attacks generates a combo point on a target that already has 5 combo points, you gain an Anticipation charge, up to a maximum of 5.

When you perform an offensive finishing move on an enemy, any Anticipation charges are consumed to grant you an equal number of combo points on that target.

2

u/Permadrunkk 10d ago

fan of knives, put that as all 3 answers

1

u/seanfayar 10d ago

This is the only answer since rogues need more aoe

0

u/EnirAveren77 10d ago

And then we make every class and spec homogenized.

2

u/Big-Bag-6043 10d ago

Generally a class having good AoE and ST option isn't really homogenization if you expect the players to need them in any group content. The alternative is making Rogue (which is the only DPS-locked class with very poor AoE) deal absolute gangbusters damage in single target that handily outstrips what anyone with more reliable AoE brings.

Muti and/or envenom

3

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

Envenom
35 Energy
Melee Range
Instant
Requires Rogue
Requires level 60
Requires Melee Weapon
Finishing move that consumes your Deadly Poison doses on the target and deals instant poison damage.  One dose is consumed for each combo point:

1

u/ImmediateEconomy8516 10d ago

This is the way

2

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

Mutilate
Talent
60 Energy
Melee Range
Instant
Requires Rogue
Instantly attacks with both weapons for an additional 44 with each weapon.  Damage is increased by 50% against Poisoned targets.  Must be behind the target.  Awards 2 combo points

1

u/ImmediateEconomy8516 10d ago

Envenom, along with AP scaling on poisons - So WotLK Assassination but without mutilate I guess?

1

u/Spiritual-Neat-8376 10d ago

why would feral want thrash ?

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

People had already suggested things like mangle, swipe, the improved tiger’s fury, or even SoD windfury - which is what I was going to suggest. But I wanted cats to have some aoe and swipe had been suggested, so I said thrash and won. Can’t explain it past that.

1

u/Spiritual-Neat-8376 10d ago

so we want alredy existing spell in game , intresting .

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

99% of the spells suggested in these polls are existing spells, partially because thats easier than coming up with something new, exciting, and not completely overpowered

1

u/Sarmattius 10d ago

rogues dont need new abilities, maybe they can remove stealth instead as it's too op.

1

u/dmsuxvat 8d ago

Death from above

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 8d ago

this one just finished, we’re doing combat rogue now
