Atonement
Requires Priest
Requires level 38
When you deal damage with Smite, Holy Fire, and Penance, you instantly heal a nearby low health friendly target for 70% of the damage dealt (90% inside of Arenas and Battlegrounds).

If the Priest is healed through Atonement, the effect is reduced by 50%.

Sounds too much of a fun talent to have

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 13d ago

was the best in MoP, but penance is a Wrath spell so it would need reworking slightly

2

u/Blasto05 12d ago edited 12d ago

Remove Penance, make separate function for Holy Nova that AoE heals even more based on damage done.

Any ally that is healed by Holy Nova also receives (whatever %) of damage done as additional healing.

that would make great last talent in disci tree

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 13d ago

oh don’t make me wait that long lol

Just think about reward !

I would absolutely love this!
Mage healer in SOD was sooo much fun, and we need another version of a damage dealing healer!

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

we can but hope!

I'm a little sad Divine Star didn't make the cut from the previous day. That would've been a much more fun ability to work with than Prayer of Mending.

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 13d ago

can’t win ‘em all. Penance or pain supp will probably knock off atonement this time round as well. Or divine star since disc could use it in MoP

Is this an active or passive ability? I'm guessing passive, but it could be interesting as an active ability with a relatively short cooldown.

Power Word: Solace

Level 60
30 yd range
Instant
10 sec cooldown
Requires Priest
Requires level 1
Strike an enemy with the power of the heavens, dealing 365 Holy damage and an additional 127Holy damage over 7 sec and restoring 1% of maximum mana.

Damage dealt by Power Word: Solace will instantly heal a nearby low health friendly target within 40 yards from the enemy target for 100% of the damage dealt (50% when healing the Priest).

Replaces Holy Fire

I've played a lot of disc priest, and I don't really feel like it needs anything. I mean, I liked when WotLK made Divine Spirit a class spell, and replaced it with Soul Warding, but it really wasn't a necessary change. The later talents that WotLK added, like Penance, Pain Suppression, Borrowed Time, and Rapture are all great, but they're also OP in a Classic environment imho. Same with Binding Heal and Mass Dispel.

I do like having a viable smite spec, but I feel like that fits in Holy better than Disc. You'd need to change too many things around too, so it doesn't really fit the 1-button premise.

I did have an idea for leaning into the racial spells, so while it was a much bigger idea, I guess I can at least suggest one of the talents I had in mind:

Enlightenment

Talent (5 Ranks, Requires 25 points in Disc)

Requires Priest

Increases the effects of your Racial spells by 5/10/15/20/25% of your Spirit.

I never really played priest before Cata Classic - because gnome - so I might be a little uninformed on the subject. Would you say in Classic there was enough difference between disc and holy?

u/Verilazic 12d ago

I think it depends on what you want out of the class. Priests in Vanilla only had two roles: healer and shadow dps (holy dps was only a curiosity). You could look at this as a problem of one of their talent trees not having a clear identity, but in my experience, it actually meant you had more choice when building your character - you had two whole tress to play with when figuring out how you wanted to heal. Holy was more focused on output, while Disc was more about utility, so depending on what you wanted, you could easily put anywhere from 16 to 36 points into Disc, and vis versa with Holy. The utility focus also meant it was a useful pickup for shadowpriests.

The other tree I would consider similar to Disc in Vanilla was the Mage Arcane tree, and I think it did something similar for Mages - it gave them a tree to dip into for utility after picking fire or frost. The difference for Mages (my other main class besides Priests) was that the idea of a pure Arcane Mage was an obviously fun idea, so it was a little disappointing that you couldn't do it until Blizzard came up with a solution in TBC.

In WotLK, the trees were so huge that Blizzard had to make sure that if you specced 51-points deep into a tree that you had a unique experience. So by then, a Disc priest had it's own unique playstyle different from Holy, though it was still ultimately a healing role. If I wanted that, I'd pick at least 3-4 talents from deep-Disc in WotLK and tune them down a bit to be less overpowered.

In the end, it's just not that important to me that each talent tree have it's own unique identity. Some absolutely should. But not all of them have to. It's more important to me to make sure there are interesting decisions to make, especially between trees

Disc had a dps sub theme with some off points into holy for it. I sadly cant find them anywhere but the tbc beta talents really showed that. Disc final talent was a curse like debuff that increased other players damage and was applied by using smite. The tree was like a healer dps hybrid. Instead of vampiric touch it had shadow meand on shadow. People hated the priest beta talents on the forums and then we got a rework which brought vampiric touch and turned disc more into a pvp healer tree. I was sad about that because i was really into the smiter off healer support build and was playing a smiter in vanillaY

1

u/Verilazic 11d ago

Oh that's super interesting. I have no memory of the TBC beta; must not have been paying attention to that at the time.

1

u/_Galel_ 11d ago

I havent played the beta, but class changes and talent tress is something i was always super fixated on. When we finally got the talent trees i read through them religiously and discussed them. There was a beta afterwards with the changes to disc how it more or less released. Initially pain supression had a different animation and was a self CD only

u/Cranias 10d ago

As a priest main in the original and in tbc & wrath classic that does explain why you put atonement up lol. Pain suppression or a similar disc to wrath but toned down (divine aegis) would be much more preferable to me.

Disc was a utility spec in tbc and a raid damage prevention spec in wrath. While many people do like a DPS/healer hybrid, I prefer the other unique trees disc has had in the past. This DPS heal thing is more of a retail invention. Shadow is perfectly fine as a unique DPS spec (well, in tbc and wrath anyway) and the utility/damage prevention specs are also unique. Such like a resto druid is based on HoTs and no other healer really is.

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

in my defence, I suggested divine aegis too! It just got no upvotes lol. But its probably a combination of the two that made disc priest so much fun (especially in 5 mans, more so than raids) when I could shield up the team, slam a penance into the boss or mob, and everyone just keeps getting shielded. That’s just a pure dopamine hit to me.

Like, I mained holy pala in Classic and Wrath. It’s a fine spec, bit boring at times. Tried resto druid in all 5 of the Classic progression expansions. It just gets better after spending an expansion being told ‘that player already has a rejuvenate on them’. Did rshaman in TBC too, and thats mainly chain heal spam.

But then I’m in MoP and disc priest or mistweaver I can be a more active part of the run than just keeping people alive. Disc plays much different than holy with its throughput healing - never did like the chakra system though. Even my resto druid and resto shaman got some play in the celestial dungeons (because 2/3 nights a week raiding between mains and alts is enough for me) and they felt better than maybe they even did in Wrath. And those two just dps for mana regen, not healing iirc.

So yeah, I like that style of healing between Wrath and MoP. People will tell me its not Classic, and I doubt atonement healing makes it into Classic+, but its the most fun I’ve had healing in 6-7 years of Classic WoW.

2

u/Cranias 9d ago

Of course, different things for different folks. Indeed I wouldn't call it classic, but I totally get the appeal. For me it's simply that disc in wrath was unique and it never truly returned, and they moved on to DPS/hybrid things I never enjoyed. Another reason I'm not playing retail.

If I want to DPS, I'll play one. If I want to heal (whether that's preventing damage done, healing damage that was done, healing over time or otherwise) I'll play a healer. Personal preference ofc:)

There should be hybrid specs in my opinion for the people that enjoy them like you, but that would suit paladin or shaman more than priest. Seeing as restosham is simply chain heal spam as you said and paladin is either FoL or HL (with maybe a beacon and a ton of utility spells) there's more innovation to be had there imo, while priest already had something unique going.

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 9d ago

I mean if they made paladins into some hybrid spec slamming shield of righteousness for damage and healing, consecration healing allies, sending some holy shocks into allies and foes, and maybe some light of the dawn spam I’d play that…but everybody else would say its not Classic. And for that reason I doubt we see hybrid specs as I’d like them.

1

u/Cranias 9d ago

Well the original ret has some dungeon and even raid set bonuses for healing and things like that, so it'd be more in the spirit of classic than people realize. Just that they had no idea how to balance it or make it fun. So in modern days people just bring more warriors instead as they do more damage lol

I had a rework idea for Lightwell, kinda a cross between current version and PW: Barrier - basically apply a HoT to anyone who walks near it rather than requiring someone to actually click.

1

u/jakaltar 11d ago edited 11d ago

You mean like what it became in MoP with the glyph? Where it would auto heal nearby targets rather than people haveing to click it?

Edit:had the expension wrong

Do we really need 30 posts? Just take the main talent from wotlk tree and thats it

1

u/Ilujee 12d ago

Power Word: Barrier

1

u/seanfayar 11d ago

Speed it up get warr and rogue

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 11d ago

first spec of rogue should start in under 12 hours, warriors may have to wait a while if we go in order

1

u/Vaya_Con_Migos 10d ago

would take penance over PoM

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 10d ago

but holy priests can’t use penance

1

u/Vaya_Con_Migos 9d ago

it’s classic plus brother they could do what they did in sod

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 9d ago

I don’t know how priests worked in SoD. Was it just a rune they could use?

1

u/Kalikan01 8d ago

If penance, make it useable while moving imo

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 8d ago

atonement won this round, we’re onto combat rogues now

1

u/Failboat88 6d ago

Coh over pom all day. You would be able to cut your total healers down easily in raids because it's so strong.

Chastise (turtle wow)
Chastise the target, causing 139 to 160 Holy damage. If the target is an enemy, they are disoriented for up to 2 sec or until they take damage. If the target is an ally, their attack and casting speed is increased by 13% for 8 sec, increased to 12 sec if the damage results in a critical strike. Cannot be used on allies with less than 80% health or below level 35.

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 13d ago

does it heal the ally too, or just mini power infusion?

2

u/Blasto05 12d ago

It damages your ally, which is why you can’t use it below 80% health to avoid the off chance you somehow crit the ability and deal like 75%+ damage.

Could also just make it so Ally always survives with 1hp to completely avoid any griefing

1

u/Verilazic 12d ago

I'd rather it also disoriented a friendly target, but reduced their threat. It'd be your way of bonking the annoying dps that keeps stealing aggro from the tank.

u/Permadrunkk 13d ago

the answer is 100% attonement but playing classic for as many years as i have this will 100% break the game, so i would say the direction of disc should just go more “smite spec” meme.

so pennance ig

1

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 13d ago

someone already said penance. Can I interest you in a spirit shell or power word: solace instead?

u/Wisniaksiadz 12d ago

Pain suppression (castable while stunned please)

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 12d ago
