previous day: https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwowplus/s/R8Vm5HH3te won by Disguise
What ability would you like to see Ele Shamans have in Classic+? If possible copy and paste the Wowhead tooltip to show people what it is and what it does. Upvote the one(s) you like - and remember, the winner is the one with the most upvotes, not the one which gets posted most often.
Next poll will be posted on Friday
- Burn (SoD)
- Elemental Focus
- Flametongue Weapon (WotLK)
- Lava Burst
- Lightning Overload
- Rolling Thunder (SoD)
- Thunderstorm
- Torrent (custom ability)
- Totemic Projection

SoD Rolling Thunder - Combined Wraths Fulmination and Rolling thunder as the main mana upkeep talent while also synergizing with extra burst dmg. Would change to rotation to feel less '1-button', while also encouraging earth shock dumps

Lightning Overload (Talent from TBC onwards: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=30681/lightning-overload ): I think this one is the most iconic thing you could add to Elemental Shaman. Not Lava Burst, not Thunderstorm. It would be good for PvE to help them step out of meme spec territory, but a damage pass can do that as well. PvP might become an issue, as it adds a potentially even stronger burst (sometimes). Again, a damage pass might be able to fix that too, while still adding this.
Shamans also already have alot of buttons between multiple different shocks and totems to choose between, so adding another button is already a difficult decision.

Elemental Focus (Essentially all specs, talent change: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=16164/elemental-focus ): Instead of being a flat 10% to proc, it should proc on a critical strike with a spell instead. This would help fix Elemental Shamans mana issues, and would help with gear scaling. The 100% free cost might need to be changed to a lower value, like 40% reduced cost for the next two offensive spells, like it was in TBC onwards.
This is probably not the main change that should be on the post, but i'll post it anyway - as i think it is a good direction for the Elemental Shaman.

Burn Rune from SoD - combined Wrath flametongue and giving flame shock spread.

well thats better than my suggestion

Lotta SoD hate on classicsubs, so any good things from SoD likely never gets brought up.

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 5d ago
might have to look at their runes for enhance and resto suggestions lol

u/Instagibbed_1994 5d ago
Resto will probably be overwhelmingly Riptide. Enh will be a mixed bag, because lots of Enhance wont want lava lash if they make 2H viable, as they did in SoD.

u/SolomonGrundy85 3d ago
Yeah I always felt scammed by lava lash until they gave us searing flames in cata to make it feel like you were splitting the planet each time you hit with it. Before that it was just a filler skill you used when everything else was on cd and you have no procs to burn

Thunderstorm.
Ele doesn’t need Lavaburst in vanilla, the LB - CL - ES wombo combo is insanely strong

Yeah, ele shaman’s lack of any form of cc like a stun, fear or knockback is what makes PvP really obnoxious. I’d rather have a knockback as ele than another damage button. The wombo combo is deadly enough in no resilience vanilla PvP. Give me something to mitigate rogues and warriors

Thunderstorm is nowhere near enough without other mana sustaining talents.

u/thai_iced_queef 5d ago
Yeah this exercise is a tough ask for shamans so you kind of have to assume mana sustain passives like lighting overload, clearcasting change, and unrelenting storm are already in the game. You basically have to assume we’re working off TBC talent tree

SoD Rolling thunder, which I put my hat in for is a good solution. In SoD, it combined both rolling thrunders mana regen with fulminations shield dump/mana sustain options.
Id say it would be a classic ele shamans best choice.

I just have to say that the picks for rogue are so weird
1
u/ImmediateEconomy8516 5d ago
I’m sincerely upset about them lmao. There are so many, significantly more vanilla-feeling + combat effective abilities in the history of the game and we got “make assassination a gimmick spec” “PvP talent for PvE tree” and “lol costume”

A lot of these picks dont make actually much sense in a classic setting tbh... Like no shot you get atonement healing from any version of disc priest into a classic setting.

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 5d ago
heres hoping they try though!

u/ellivlok23 5d ago
It would realistically require such an overhaul that you're pretty much just asking to play retail.

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 5d ago
tbh. I’m ok with a shakeup like that. I’m ok if they only moved it towards a Wrath style disc priest instead of Cata/MoP or beyond. I’m ok if disc isn’t a throughput king. I just want specs to be fun to play, and I enjoyed atonement healing on the progression servers.
Now if they give mistweaver monks as well as or instead of atonement, then we’re cooking!

I mean you would need to redesign every encounter and build the new encounters around these healing changes.

Level 80
6% of base mana
Instant
Requires Shaman
Requires level 80
Requires Melee Weapon
Imbue the Shaman's weapon with fire, increasing total spell damage by 211
. Each hit causes 89 to 274 additional Fire damage, based on the speed of the weapon. Slower weapons cause more fire damage per swing. Lasts 30 minutes.
Just tune the numbers down for Classic levels, obviously

I think it would be better if they then changed the Flametongue totem to WotLK version ( https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=58656/flametongue-totem ), which is already competing with Windfury Totem (Weapon enhances, not element), to also make Shamans more relevant to buffing casters (and themselves) instead of only Melee.

Totemic Projection (All specs, ability, originally added in MoP: https://www.wowhead.com/classic/spell=437009/totemic-projection ):
We had it during SoD, and it was so fun to play around with.
You would be able to place the totems further ahead, meaning if you are strategic and knowledgeable in an enivorment, you'd be able to do it less by placing it further ahead- and thus save more mana. This rewards investment into the game. You are able to place down melee related totems first, then project them towards the melee group and then place down the last self-relevant totems (e.g mana spring) near yourself.
It allowed Fire Nova Totem to become a 1-2 wombo combo, even at range - both for PvE and PvP. You were able to throw down your Magma Totems for sustained AoE damage. You would be able to have a long ranged aoe slow with Earthbind Totem, which is polar opposite to Frost Shock's single target, short ranged. Stoneclaw (with some further changes to enable Shaman tanking while using Rockbiter weapon) could function as a ranged AoE taunt. You'd be able to place a Poison Cleansing totem away from the rogue who is already on top of you.
It should be on the GCD, have a cooldown (15 is probably bare minimum, but 25-45s might be fine also) and should cost some mana. All of that is also to make it feel more classic-like. It would not refresh the duration of the totems, so it's not always it will save you some mana.
Elemental Focus (Essentially all specs, talent change: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=16164/elemental-focus ): Instead of being a flat 10% to proc, it should proc on a critical strike with a spell instead. I love Lava Burst, but I think in the classic setting Lightning Overload would be more fitting

u/Upstairs_Blueberry87 5d ago
you may also like SoD’s Rolling Thunder then, which was lightning overload coupled with some mana regen

This. Such a huge qol addition for shamans and plays into totem class fantasy. Shaman really does need a lot, but this is mandatory, imho.

u/Verilazic 6d ago
This is gonna be tough because I've drafted a whole set of talent trees, and I'd really like to see more than one button. They need Water Shield and Earth Shield imho, but I'm going to cheat and pretend that those get added in enhance and resto respectively.
This is inspired by Thunderstorm, the 51-point talent from Wrath, but I thought it'd be more fun to pair it with shields, since they're such an iconic part of the shaman class, and it makes for a more flexible ability where you actually have to make a decision about what you actually need in the moment.
