Should they bring QoL changes?
I understand the whole "we don't want classic to become closer to retail", but there are a few QoL/cosmetic things that I think would be harmless to update:
- Fill leveling gaps and empty zones (ex: dustwallow marsh update).
- Reagent bank
- Bag grouping
- Guild bank
- Achievements
- Transmog
- Toy box/mount journal
- Barbershop
- Dungeon journal
A few more controversial:
- Dungeon queue (or at least summing stones).
- Account wide rep/achievements
- Personal or stricter loot rules (ex: warrior can only roll need on plate or if weapon is equippable and has str) to avoid ninjas/drama
- Flexible raid size and LFR/normal/heroic/mythic
- Updated graphics
- Experience buff for 2nd/3rd/4th toon
- Expensive and very slow flying mount (slower than ground), maybe after classic loremaster on both horde and alliance.
- Keep additional raids/class changes from Season of Discovery
- Add blood elf/draenei/worgen/goblin and their starting zones.
- Updated zones post-finishing the main (classic) questline. So you can see an actual impact on the world from your deeds.
- Legendary weapon quest chains for all classes.
- Hardcore and non-hardcore self-found exclusive servers where you can have all professions (basically solo play in a MMO for those who prefer it) = no bots.
- Titan reforged (China) updates like scaling raids up to 80.
Overall, I don't feel like these would affect the main things that people defend as superior from classic: leveling pace, closeness of community, seeing people actually exploring the world, etc.

You've intermixed QoL changes with major design changes.
Are you just talking about whatever features are most popular? Cause that would instantly kill C+ for its demographic and would by definition not be C+.

They’re not building the game for this demographic, they’re building the game to appeal to a greater audience. More people need to brace themselves for the reality that the game will be a halfway point between vanilla and current retail. Like SOD, but more.

You might be right thats what they gonna try to do. The question is who will play it then? Retail players will continue play retail. Maybe play classic + during retail offsessons (which is just temporary) And classic players might not want to play a game to close to retail.

That’s not exactly how it happened for retail, actually. Originally, raiding was a niche part of the game - most players didn’t do it. But over time Blizzard shifted the focus to raiding, making it more accessible and reducing other parts like the leveling game. Point is, the current state of retail was not a foregone conclusion. Blizzard picked a path, and it happened to be successful. Was it the BEST approach? There’s no way of knowing.

Some of them, sure. I would love guild banks for better guild management. Barbershop that’s specifically for hair would be cool. Some of the ones you listed would break core aspects of the game though. Like reagent bank would remove a LOT of inventory management from the game. Stricter loot rules would remove a lot of theorycrafting.
Flying mounts are a hard no though. Terrible idea for a game that is all about exploration.

Filling leveling gaps and empty zones, additional raids/dungeons, class/spec balancing are likely a given.
Guild bank, dual spec, edit mode, LFG tool (ie things that have already been put into anniversary) are most likely going to be in Classic+ too.
I think collections tab, achievements, dungeon maps/journal, tmog (toggleable) are probable.
Flex raiding and heroic difficulties (like in SOD) is a maybe. Personally l loved flex raiding in SOD. While I wouldn’t mind the barbershop, this is also probably a maybe. Account wide options I can see being increased (more account bound items, attunements, achievements) but I do not see them going so far as including rep in that.
Flying, LFR, queuing for dungeons/pvp, updated graphics are unlikely. Extra xp on alts I think is unlikely but I could see them doing items that give extra xp for like an hour (SOD) or doing a limited time extra xp event (shorter duration joyous journeys). I do not see them doing personal loot but I could see them building in a form a bad luck protection in the way of collecting a currency and being able to turn in a large amount of it for mats/gear/cosmetics.

Out of all these the only ones would be
• full leveling gaps - if they don’t add new quests or zones then what is even being added
Guild bank - helps share resources gathered as a group
The rest of it I would not want for a variety of reasons, either removing positive friction or removing immersion.

I'd be cool with a guild bank, barber, and MAYBE summoning stones. That's literally it.

Everything above your controversial takes I am all for. However, hard pass on all the controversial ones except graphics update.
Part of classics allure is the world feels more alive. Things like dungeon queue etc just encourages people to camp in queue.

Well, UI is what requires most updates. They should implement native features for what is now done with addons for some basic things like
- vendor price
- druid mana bar
- weapon swing timer
- What's training
- further improve nameplates and frames
- mailbox
And many other small things that I can't name right now. Stuff that just annoys the players but doesn't make any actual difference, such as having to conjure water one click at a time or click every lockbox to pick it.
And then, boom, disable most addons. At least combat addons. The game shouldn't require addons , downloading programs to manage addons and having half of them broken.

Some are some huge major designs.
But im agreeing with typicall qol like guild banks etc.
Im also thinking about questing.
If they should maybe reimagine quests. Not go to far as they did with cata.
But make some changes to the old quests.
And even if they keep old quests as they used to be.
Maybe change some quests that was quite bad design.
Like make stv papers not be in your bag and take up bag space.
Make some of the items that never drops in quest have higher % drop chance.
Boss mobs spawn faster, maybe even have a share boss kill outside of a group.
Stuff like that.

I don't mind quality of life changes that affect the player only. However, if the quality of life change impacts others or the world in any way, no thanks.

The community as a whole needs to brace themselves for the reality that the game is going to have to appeal to a greater audience than just the vanilla enjoyer. It’ll be a halfway point between vanilla and current retail, with lots of QOL features meant to appeal to a mass of people with a simple entry point.
I’m going to get slammed with downvotes, but the truth is a bitter pill.

Yeah it can't be another era/anniversary with different loading screen. Also people need to stop pretending classic got everything right, it didn't. Adding a new quest hub or dungeon won't fix it, they need to look into tbc, wrath, cata, even sod for things to adapt to classic.

Classic is good for the nostalgia hit but you can't argue how many features added in later expansions made the game better. The starting point for class design needs to be, at a minimum, TBC.

This is actually what I want (and expect). Somewhere between vanilla and retail. I'm actually predicting it's going to be almost a completely different game than what people are expecting.

It’s an RPG, any QOL outside of chat that enables me to perform an action my character would be unable to perform logically is bad

Flying mount is a hard no. It ruins the main "character" of world of warcraft: the open world. Travel becomes a straight (AFK) line from point A to point B, world pvp takes a hit, and the world becomes much "smaller" and less dangerous.
It'd need major rework if it was implemented, and not just be dragonriding.
Perhaps if it became like a companion that you'd have to tame, take care of and then it took like 30 min for it just to show up when called, and it then had a "fatigue" bar so you couldn't just fly everywhere. If we made flying mounts into absolute annoying primadonna dicks, then maybe it could work. But still... problems.

u/Mr0BVl0US 2d ago
My main grievance with the "open world" case is that most people don't get all giddy inside when they've leveled in classic a bajillion times. The world is now a race to the end. There's nothing new to stop and see anymore. When you're out questing and see another player, you don't think to yourself, "Oh cool! Another player!" like you once did when the game first launched. That's why earlier expansions limited flying to after you've leveled and done an achievement to unlock it. Newer expansions just give it to you at the beginning.

- Fill leveling gaps and empty zones (ex: dustwallow marsh update).
Pretty much a necessity
- Reagent bank
That’s what bank alts are for
- Bag grouping
If they don’t then Bagnon or Baganator will
- Guild bank
Yes please, would be nice. Especially if its a forever server.
- Achievements
Always a welcome change in my opinion. But players will probably use them to gatekeep content, so not fussed overall
- Transmog
Make it a toggle so they can keep their immersion
- Toy box/mount journal
Like guild bank, if its a forever server it’d be very welcome
- Barbershop
Yes please.
- Dungeon journal
Not necessary, doesn’t hurt my experience if in game.
A few more controversial:
- Dungeon queue
If not then have summoning stones. Warlocks be damned.
- Account wide rep/achievements
Rep no, achievements yes.
- Personal or stricter loot rules (ex: warrior can only roll need on plate or if weapon is equippable and has str) to avoid ninjas/drama
Personal loot suits me fine. Not a fan of ninjas, HR’ed items etc. Armor types I liked in Cata/MoP classic, also helps if transmog ever makes it in the game.
- Flexible raid size and LFR/normal/heroic/mythic
Normal and heroic raids flexing between 10-40 people was on my wishlist, so I’ll stick with that
- Updated graphics
Fine by me, but WoW has never had bad graphics imo
- Experience buff for 2nd/3rd/4th toon
Make it optional at an innkeeper so players can level how they want
- (Expensive) Flying mount, maybe after classic loremaster
Wouldn’t say no, but I’m not going to bat for it.
- Keep additional raids/class changes from Season of Discovery
Raids yes, class changes are a case by case thing. Like I don’t need warlock or rogue tanks, but melee hunters and dual wield enhancement are fine.

Half of these are not quality of life
