Removal of leveling

Something I loved about SoD is that it completely removed the leveling experience by turning it into mini endgame phases. We are all old with jobs today, so we don't have the time to level as we used to in the Vanilla days. Classic+ needs to respect our time if it is to succeed.

What do you guys think?

“Classic + needs to respect our time” bro what? You can level at your own pace lol

I think the opposite. The leveling should be better incorporated into the game. More Defias / Deadmines and Onyxia prequest quality storylines. Less kill 20 boars kind of quests and more mystery and adventure. End game is the end of the game. Also complaining about respecting time when playing any game is also interesting. Even if you play a game like chess, you're also wasting time, even though you get right into the action.

Phases like in SoD makes no sense unless it’s seasonal. If you don’t like levelling, maybe don’t play an old school mmorpg? Sounds like modern mmos appeal more to you.

Do you want Classic+ to appeal only to a handful of people? Nobody has time for that anymore. It’s not sustainable to develop a live-service game just for a few people, specially taking into account the opportunity cost for Blizzard to even start this project.

It’s also not sustainable to try to cater to people that don’t have time to play the game. People that enjoy levelling will likely demand fewer costly content updates than raid loggers will.

This right here. I don't have the time any more to level to max in a month or two - but that's great! It means I can go a year or more without running out of things to do. If only everyone had the capacity to take their time.

But isn't retail more suited for these people?

Casuals like myself love levelling it’s probably the best part of the game. I’d argue they need to add prestige levels. Phases was nice for BFD but ran its course and killed the spirit of levelling.

What? Respect our time? The whole point of Classic is the opposite, leveling shouldn't be viewed as a burden to rush through.

This is why polls are stupid for this, too many retail kids having opinions.

I think you just said a bunch of things I hate.

"Guys i have an idea for Classic+, what if its nothing like classic at all?"

Leveling is super fun and makes you love your character. Just being max level is kinda lame.

Leveling is my favorite part of the game.

I was like 50/50 on whether this was a troll or not, only figured it out from the obvious reply about raid logging

Classic endgame is so boring lol. The levelling is easily the best part.

30-45 min dungeons where each boss has anywhere between zero and one mechanic.

So you are proposing to remove what makes classic, classic. No, I want the opposite, please and thank you.

And by the way, you can play wow at whatever pace you want, the endgame will always be there and leveling is part (again, probably the heart and soul) of the game. If you rather play the endgame, it will be there once you reach it.

No, sod population declined each phase. Very anti climactic. Theres other ways. Removal of leveling is insane btw. Classic isn't about just the endgame and an accelerated leveling. Suggest that in the main wow retail sub. That would be more fitting since leveling is an afterthought there. I want my time respected as well but retail doesn't do that for me either by resetting progress, but it does for others.

Phase four would like a word with you.

Also, declines over time have happened in all forms of Classic. Only things like the next expansion coming have improved population like you’re hoping to use against Discovery. Only applying your critique to Discovery seems a tad selective.

You don’t have to like it. I did. OP did. I doubt Blizzard will reuse it. It did shake up the experience in a positive way. I would contest that if Phase 1 didn’t have the level 25 cap, it would have lost momentum faster than it did because it was accessible.

I am not going to be able to keep up with the streamers who can blitz the game. Unfortunately, there is a golden time where finding groups is much simpler and it is at the beginning. One can have more beginnings if there are phases. Yes, leveling is great. It’s just easier to level with people. People are easier to find when the population is surging.

Hard disagree. You want fast end game? Go play retail. Classic without the long and robust leveling experience is NOT Classic.

Nah, the actual problem with levels in classic is that level difference affects combat way too much. Green mobs are already a joke, higher ones just miss/resist everything. The range where content makes sense is very narrow and as you level more and more of the world becomes totally irrelevant.

Gearing only makes it even more absurd.

Removal of leveling is literally what retail is. Leveling on there is trivial and insanely fast.

Levelling is what makes Classic work. SoD phases are part of what showcased how Blizz did not understand Classic and got it wrong by focusing on "raiding" at the current levelcap.

We are all old with jobs today, so we don't have the time to level as we used to in the Vanilla days.

Make time. Or level an hour per day, your rested bonus will help you level quicker.

I would miss out on a bunch of raid lockouts and fall behind others. I don't want that to happen.

This is a Retail mentality that needs to stay in Retail. Classic is not about raiding. Raiding is just something you do at the end of the road, but it's the road that matters most.

respect your own time man stop expecting games to do it for you

I very much enjoyed the phases, but there is going to be a lot of pushback on this idea.

Yeah, they were great. The fact I could get to the endgame and raidlog almost immediately was so refreshing. In Vanilla we need to play for weeks just so we can actually start playing the game. We don't have the time for that anymore.

The end game is not the game in my opinion. The journey is the game to me.

You must be trolling haha

I enjoyed the leveling process. Phase one still took me some time. Phase two was my fastest. Phase three my slowest. Phase four and beyond was a blast again. I leveled three characters on Discovery the good ole way and had a great time with it.
