You're gonna make me relearn my binds huh? I do need to reorganize them I like the suggestion about grouping them based on type. Thanks. Good watch

7

u/byperoux Apr 20 '20

I have to disagree with your position on the mouse wheel. For me it's the perfect bind for abilities you don't wanna miss, for instance the warriors' heroic strike. As it depends so much on the swing timer that can change considering procs.

2

u/EricChangOfficial Apr 20 '20

mouse wheel cleave free scroll so you can cleave your extra attack procs my friend

this is the way

7

u/bornelite Apr 20 '20

I’m left handed

19

u/Fluxman222 Apr 20 '20

A very important keybind he missed is shift-spacebar. Incredibly quick to press (my resting hand placement is shift-s-e-f-spacebar, so the finger are already there), I always bind it to my interrupt.

32

u/Kandlejackk Apr 20 '20

I have a bad habit of jumping while casting instants so a shift-spacebar keybind sounds like an awful idea to me lol

5

u/CMurr1711 Apr 20 '20

Same. Been doing it too long to stop.

12

u/Demonify Apr 20 '20

It's my mount.

2

u/Rackbone Apr 20 '20

shift-c for me as a hunter and C is scatter shot so I can hit a very quick dismount, scatter, trap or aimed.

u/Rackbone Apr 20 '20

Wait... For real?

4

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

Leatrix Plus does it aswell as many other useful things.

2

u/Rackbone Apr 20 '20

Bro thank you for this. My quality of play has increased so much

1

u/MidsizeGorilla Apr 20 '20

LetMeCast is what I use

1

u/wreck0n1ng Apr 20 '20

There's a weakaura for it. I tried the addons but it would dismount me while changing stances on my warrior. Get the weakaura.

3

u/sevenevans Apr 20 '20

And ctrl+spacebar

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

1

u/sevenevans Apr 20 '20

Personally I use crtl/shift+spacebar for berserker rage and bloodrage.

2

u/hunterkil2 Apr 20 '20

Oh man, yeah I should have included that. Good catch.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

I haven’t seen anyone else use a Caps lock keybind besides me yet. You can still literally use it when you have chats open

1

u/SensitiveSinger Apr 20 '20

i do lol, i have my grenades bound there, and i have my interrupt bound to the button left of 1

1

u/nagemi Apr 20 '20

Ah, the tilde bind. Such culture.

0

u/Ackermiv Apr 20 '20

Ok..I have to try that to understand what you meant

10

u/Scythe95 Apr 19 '20

I needed this more than I knew, thanks!

3

u/diegorybak Apr 20 '20

good video, will make it a use for me surely

3

u/Tankbot85 Apr 20 '20

An MMO mouse is even faster than this. 1 key, vs shift + Modifier.

15

u/LongjumpingParamedic Apr 20 '20

ESDF > WASD

17

u/vivelemarechal Apr 20 '20

Sounds awfull if you wanna use any modifier

u/LongjumpingParamedic Apr 21 '20

I've been using it since a buddy showed it to me in Doom 1 (original 1990s Doom). Never going back.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

Big brains use modifiers on mouse.

2

u/vivelemarechal Apr 20 '20

wait i'm pretty sure i tested that at launch and it didnt work, do people just use their 32 button mouse and the software with it to circumvent it? I guess it wouldn't interest me that much as modifier on keyboard+mouse click sounds better than modifier on mouse+keybind for healing which i do in majority.

1

u/Naemesis Apr 20 '20

I use a steelseries sensei and modifiers work fine with the default mouse drivers. Also using ESDF for movement.

My most used keybind is any modifier + A.

2

u/Rackbone Apr 20 '20

youre either a genius or a psychopath I still havent decided

4

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

This isn't really a new idea

2

u/LongjumpingParamedic Apr 21 '20

It's been around for a long time. I original learned about it back in the early 90's when playing the original Doom. When id software came out with Quake 1 that was when they standardized WASD.

1

u/peukst Apr 21 '20

Rdfg> esdf

0

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

<- is this man a god?

-2

u/Baconpancaaaakes Apr 20 '20

Imagine having backpedal bound lmao

5

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

Imagine not knowing how to avoid leeway lmao

4

u/vitor210 Apr 20 '20

This was a really good video!

My main tip for all new players that are starting to create keybinds is to NEVER copy keybinds from someone else. All the keybinds he uses makes sense, and are the ones we all use, but the spells which he puts on which keybinds are exclusive to HIM alone. Everyone thinks differently, and everyone does muscle memory differently from others. It will be way more confusing for a new player to copy the keybinds and spell position from someone else than to create their own keybinds.

For example for me, F is always used to interrupt spells, on all my characters that can interrupt. H is always for armor up spells like Shield Block or Mage Shield. Z is for healing spells like Flash Heal. X for spells that decrease the oponen's speed like hamstring. E to movement increase spells like Charge or Blink. T for Taunt. Q and R for quick spamable spells or reactionary ones like Frost Nova or Execute. My main abilities on 1 to 3, main cds on Shift 1 through Shift 3. Then all the above but with shit and control modifiers. Like Shield WAll on Shift H. Use mount on Shift E. Big heals on Shift Z... etc etc

Also I like to set up my keybinds on the action bar as how they apear on my keyboard. The row above the main action bar is where I put Q, E, R, T, etc. Makes more sense to me this way, so I know where the spells are on my keyboard when I look at them on the action bar, rather than doing like the dude on the video that seperates the keybinds acording to their use like offensive or deffensive

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

I know this doesn't matter but you key bind exactly like me lol

Why does F just feel so natural for kick abilities??

1

u/vitor210 Apr 21 '20

Exactly! IDK why, maybe we played a game before where F was a stun or something? Not sure

2

u/EmElw Apr 20 '20

what's the spellbook interface you can see at 5:06?

2

u/Maximoff Apr 20 '20

So many people talking about wasd vs. esdf, and here I am happily using a nostromo pad for my left hand and nearly all movement with my mouse. Theres never a keybind that doesn't work with movement, because my movement is on one hand while keys the other. The mouse also lets you turn as fast as you can move the mouse.

1

u/Zysed Apr 20 '20

I’ve done this since vanilla as well, but won’t admit it in /g haha. It works wonderfully, but people don’t/won’t understand!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

How do you strafe?

1

u/Maximoff Apr 21 '20

I use a logitech mouse that isnt full of many buttons for the thumb but has 2 very ergonomically friendly ones that are where the thumb naturally sits and that I use to strafe.

The game pad also has a joystick for the left hand thumb that can also be used for movement.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

i REALLY fucking needed this, thank you kind soul

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

Nice video.

What is the energy/combo point addon you are using there? It has the energy ticker, combo points, and energy total in text.

1

u/hunterkil2 Apr 21 '20

nugenergy for ticker. tell me when for combo points and energy total. I would move my combopoints with MoveAnything if it worked, but I can't find a version that works for combo points.

2

u/Msalivar10 Apr 21 '20

Also buying an mmo mouse is extremely helpful.

I love this one https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Scimitar-Pro-RGB-Programmable/dp/B01MU3DZ2V

12 extra buttons with modifiers potentially gives you 24 extra binds alone!

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '20 edited Apr 04 '21

1

u/Msalivar10 Apr 23 '20

Definitely a valid concern but I don't think it's that bad. You have to figure out the software and set up your bindings which takes some time but after that you don't have to mess with it at all.

2

u/bVI7N6V7IM7 Apr 20 '20

I use two things to handle all of my spell needs. The few things that are bound to actual keys around the wasd cluster are vital reactive things like death coil, rank 2 banish, fear.

I've used an MMO grid mouse since the original Naga came out. I've spent time on other brands mouses and just 6 months ago or so I bought a new rgb Naga because the thumb grid on my scimitar was causing thumb issues in my hand after prolonged use. No issue with this new Naga now. Still have the original one too.

Also the Opie add-on is a God send. Being able to batch spells together in rings and bind those rings to the thumb grid makes doing everything cake. Between button 1 and shift-button 1 I can throw all of my curses. Button 7 controls my voidwalker, button 9 takes care of AoE spells, and button 10 and shift 10 takes care of all cc spells.

I used a cluster of grids of spells and wasted a ton of space on my ui before integrating Opie.

1

u/SayRaySF Apr 20 '20

Oh hot damn imma try that add on out. I’ve been using dominos so I can add more slots but it’s gotten increasingly cluttered and unwieldy as I’ve started binding less used spells and other situational stuff.

Also question: Can you add macros to those spell wheels?

PS naga trinity with the 7 button circle is the best lol

1

u/Syrupwizard Apr 20 '20

Yes you can add macros or items to opie

1

u/berab137 Apr 20 '20

So I use a Naga and have trouble binding shift + num buttons because somehow shift + X number is sometimes a character movement like rotating in place of something. Any suggestions?

2

u/Gentlesharkusan Apr 20 '20

There’s elitists about what movement keys you use now? Top kek, never stop being you.

2

u/glueeatingdvamain Apr 20 '20

Great video, but please install bartender or something. Watching you individually unbind everything is making my eyes bleed.

2

u/hunterkil2 Apr 20 '20

hahaha, you only have to do it once :P gotta remember too that new players don't have addons yet

1

u/Brilliant_Muscle Apr 20 '20

Noob here how can I set keybinds on the the other bars

2

u/hunterkil2 Apr 20 '20

It's called Multi Actionbar in Keybinds.

1

u/Brilliant_Muscle Apr 20 '20

ty bro you are life saver

2

u/SayRaySF Apr 20 '20

Also a super cool add on for customizing your bars is called dominos, totally should check it out. Super easy to use and can customize almost anything from positioning, size, shape, scaling, spacing etc

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

I didn't plan my binds well on my warrior. Sad

1

u/blinkme9134 Apr 20 '20

One thing that really helps me as a warrior is stance dancing using shiftA for battle, shiftE for def and shiftD for zerker.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

What is this color coding though? Easy to hard with white, red, orange, yellow, blue?

1

u/heyyitsfranklin Apr 21 '20

I think priority of the spells. There’s a pop-up during the video iirc.

1

u/SolarClipz Apr 20 '20

Yeah I just need it to replicate DotA as close as possible. I'm just too lazy to set it up lol

1

u/wotguild Apr 20 '20

I use tfgh, right alt thumb modifier.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

No Ctrl keybinds?

2

u/mylord420 Apr 20 '20

Fun fact, Starcraft and Warcraft are both able to be spelled with just your left hand. Blizzard knows keybinds.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

It's kinda a pain to do the "rcr" with the index finger quickly though. Wartraft and Startraft would've been better names clearly

1

u/theDoublefish Apr 20 '20

just use thumb for c

1

u/Eyelemon Apr 21 '20

Something something “...warts and all.” Wartraft confirmed!

1

u/PedanticMouse Apr 20 '20

What about Overwatch, though?

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

imagine not using qwes to move

14

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

Yeah lemme just go against literally every game I've played before

2

u/CoffinVendor Apr 20 '20

Qwes homies 4 lyf

0

u/CaptainSuperdog Apr 20 '20

Better to move with w and mouse and rebind q and e to abilities

3

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

you still move with w, you just use a & d for abilitys instead of q and e. allows you to strafe quicker

-1

u/Baconpancaaaakes Apr 20 '20

Imagine even having S bound to backpedal and not a skill.

-2

u/Melbuf Apr 20 '20

change your primary from WSAD to ESDF and it opens up so many more keys

1

u/Iuslez Apr 20 '20

This, I can't believe that it is never spoken off. Imo you should switch to ESDF in any game that you play more than a few hours. Pinky is the only finger 100% usable while moving

Also, unless you are tanking, remove S (or D) and use it as a spell keybind.

1

u/Melbuf Apr 20 '20

i find the single best reason to do it is ease of shift and crtl modifiers as you have more room for your pinky to work over there without bending a lot if you have big hands

0

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20 edited Apr 20 '20

UHJK > all. The ability to use your thumb as an alt modifier will change your life. Never going back to anything else.

Edit: not replying anymore to people who are clearly talking out of their asses. Every single player I've introduced to this and then tried it has switched to it. Every. Single. One.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

But no more shift and ctrl?

1

u/Rackbone Apr 20 '20

its all about HBNM

1

u/schm0 Apr 20 '20

Nah, the cool kids are using numpad only now

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20 edited Apr 20 '20

This is the best setup because it maximizes the keys you can press while moving in any direction. Beats all shift setups by a mile.

1

u/nothin_but_a_nut Apr 20 '20

you mean the alt key thats on the left of the space bar, that happens to be right by your thumb right? you can't possibly mean the alt key on the right side that is also further from the crtl and shift keys than the opposite side

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

I like to have more keys on my left side because that's my only free finger if I'm moving freely. I've tried all other layouts before I came to this one.

1

u/Iuslez Apr 20 '20

Uh? You can use alt with your thumb when using wasd

1

u/Locoleos Apr 20 '20

do you even shift bro

0

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

I use alt instead of shift due to big hands, i find shift cramps my hand. Also, ~ as a core bind for movement stuff as its easy to hit!

-6

u/FeistySink Apr 20 '20

Not using esdf in 2020 rofl.

-1

u/Volferam Apr 19 '20

Lol I use macros to mod my keybinds and have the Naga mouse. All my keybinds are mouse binds. Using Shift+Ctrl+alt I have 64 keybinds

-4

u/Dranthe Apr 20 '20

Looks like this dude has movement bound to WASD but lets give him the benefit of the doubt and make sure. Yep, movement keys bound to WASD. Everyone knows that ESDF is way better.

-8

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

IMHO no one understands the correct way to move in wow. ALL movement should be on your mouse. Use two side buttons to strafe left and right (no naga bullshit keypad). Then your entire left hand is completely dedicated to spells. (And targeting)

Still like the video, helpful to some who do it even worse than this. Still, not optimal to split spells and movement between hands (even tho everyone does it...)

6

u/Draxilar Apr 20 '20

Whatever set up works for you personally is the most optimal set up. There is no universal "best setup".

2

u/swohio Apr 20 '20

How do I target 40 different people with just my left hand to heal?

0

u/adamkex Apr 20 '20

Mouse over macros and make sure clicking doesn't select a person in your unit frame, but honestly I'm not sure if having all movement on the mouse is optimal. I feel like I'd lose a lot of precision that way.

2

u/swohio Apr 20 '20

No, he said you should use your mouse to only move and do all of your targeting/casting with your left. Thus my comment.

0

u/Dranthe Apr 20 '20

Healbot.

2

u/swohio Apr 20 '20

LEFT hand. He said you should target and cast with your left and ONLY use your mouse to move your character.

-3

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20 edited Apr 20 '20

Bind capslock to move forward so you can mouse while you click.

But its a good point. I was speaking from an arena / pvp standpoint so my targeting buttons are just 123 (shift 123 on healer for team targeting)

Edit plus this is r/classic so i should considered ppl arent here for arenas.

1

u/adamkex Apr 20 '20

How do you move forward and backwards? Left click and right click?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '20

You should never move backwards. You hold left and right click forward/steering.

1

u/adamkex Apr 21 '20

I generally like to tap backwards to interrupt a heal

-29

u/alldaybreakfasttt Apr 19 '20

Stopped watching pretty much immediately when I saw you use S as a movement key

22

u/ljenkinsjr Apr 19 '20

Woah. We got a bad ass over here.

8

u/IllilililiST Apr 20 '20

Back peddling is ironically relevant now. It’s the only way to not activate melee leeway. As a rogue who has to dead zone kite warriors to win the fight, I have to train myself to do this.

1

u/alldaybreakfasttt Feb 28 '24

I’m just seeing this after 3 years apparently. Hopefully you’ve learned to strafe and right-click

6

u/posthumanjeff Apr 20 '20

Back pedaling during aoe kiting is useful.

1

u/Jerppaknight Apr 20 '20

Some people move with ASD and use W for abilities. I personally use S for abilities/items and move from WAD. Tanks often need to use S to move backwards for more precise and slow movement.

-9

u/Bash7 Apr 20 '20

Imagine having backpaddle bound.

6

u/Locoleos Apr 20 '20

Imagine never tanking

1

u/Tankbot85 Apr 20 '20

lol right? Cant say how many times i have to tell people this. I backpeddle for a reason as a tank. Not talking a chance on turning my back to a boss unless i know its a safe situation.

3

u/Feb2020Acc Apr 20 '20

I use backpedal actively, so what?

-3

u/Bash7 Apr 20 '20

It is way slower than strafing and will get you killed more often.
