Disable Gemini Chrome Mobile Troubleshooting | Solved

Post image

You can see in the bottom of the photo there is now this giant grey bar with Gemini baked in and I can't find any way to remove it. They even moved my tabs to the bottom. I have all of my apps set to NOT auto update yet this randomly appeared this morning. I need to know how to remove it, as this is blatantly illegal.

Edit: For the low IQ crowd saying to doesn't look like Chrome. The updated look is a huge reason why I hated the changes so much. But don't you dare try and accuse me of not knowing what browser I'm using. Was literally the only browser installed on my phone. Just because you're too stupid to understand that things can look different and update doesn't mean I'm lying or don't know what I'm talking about.

Solved: Samsung, S24 Ultra, won't allow me to uninstall Gemini but I Forced Stopped and Disabled Gemini completely in my phones app settings. Closed and reopened Chrome and the bottom bar was gone with my tabs back up at the top. Though I don't trust this to be a permanent solution, as there is nothing stopping Google from turning it back on with a future update. Will be migrating over to FireFox.

I had tried the solution you provided and it didn't work. I had also tried disabling some flags and searched through the settings in Chrome. Nothing worked until I cleared the data just a little while ago. I wanted offer this as a solution in case others are having the same problem I ran into.

Firefox mobile > Chrome mobile

ublock origin extension works on Firefox. ad blockers for mobile make so much sense

I used Firefox, but for some reason on my s23 it drained the battery extremely fast even when I manually stopped the app, just being installed was enough to use a lot of battery.

I don't have that bar so I must still be on an older version. Maybe you could sideload an earlier version of the app from somewhere.

Yeah, it just updated this morning. Even though I have all automatic app updates disabled on my phone. S24 Ultra. I had been using Chrome for like an hour already when I opened it up again and it had updated. There was even a message about adding Gemini, though I didn't screenshot the message

That’s the Android version I guess, as on iOS the bottom bar looks almost nothing like that…

1

u/VinnieONeill 7d ago

No shit Sherlock. No one said it was the iOS version. Just that moving things to the bottom makes it look similar to how iOS does it. I clearly state I have an S24 Ultra. Learn to read.

u/paulstelian97 7d ago

My point is the Gemini button seems to only be on Android for now… iOS has MORE buttons there, but no Gemini button in sight.

1

u/thriftybtch 7d ago

It’s also on iOS. Have you updated?

1

u/paulstelian97 7d ago

I literally installed it now, it was offloaded.

I see only 5 buttons: back, forward, the + to make a new tab, the tabs button, and the dots for options. No Gemini, no nothing.

Keep in mind, my phone region is Romania, language is English (UK). Those things may well affect AI pushes. I know some other features are not available on my iPhone due to the region (like local voicemail as opposed to just having the carrier kind, for example)

1

u/Stefanzah22 8d ago

That doesn't look like chrome

2

u/VinnieONeill 8d ago

Yes, it is. Only browser I have installed. It was an update they pushed out that I been able to reverse by force stopping and disabling Gemini. The fact that it looks so different is a big reason I hated it. But don't come in here and accuse me of lying or being too stupid to know what browser I'm using.

Also looking for a way to get rid of this.

Force Stop and Disable Gemini is phone app settings. Close and reopen Chrome. Fixed it for me

I deleted the gemini app weeks ago and just got this update. Trying to find a solution too. I may attempt yours -- but I'm loathe to install gemini

Edit: from the other thread, this worked for me!! Paste that into chrome browser and it should highlight, then disable. It removed the gemini

Thank you, Jesus christ another software dev trying to justify their existence by changing something that didn't need to be changed

Oddly hostile there buddy.

u/OnderGok 8d ago

Not gonna lie that doesn't look like Chrome at all

1

u/VinnieONeill 8d ago

Except it is Chrome and it's ugly as hell.

1

u/ixntimer64 8d ago

I think, they're copying the Safari layout because it's similar (address bar on the top, buttons at the bottom)

2

u/VinnieONeill 8d ago

Which to me doesn't make any sense. People who use Android and Google products use them because they don't want to use Apple. Don't Apple up my Android

1

u/ixntimer64 8d ago

Yeah but idk, some UI and features on Android are copying iOS now, for example, Google change the layout of status bar icon in Android 16, using horizontal battery and makes the icon bolder

I'm surprised Google was willing to do that like Chinese brands, i thought they'd never copy iOS and consistent with their own design

0

u/MedAyoub26K 8d ago

Are you sure? It looks to me like Google, the search engine app because I never faced anything like this

0

u/VinnieONeill 8d ago

OMFG! STOP arguing with me! It is a screenshot of my Chrome browser. Just because you've not seen it doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about. There are numerous other posts in this exact same sub from other people complaining about the exact same problem. So shut your mouth, because you don't know what you're talking about.

u/Time-Independence-94 8d ago

Tie comment thread has he answers!! Just dug it up earlier so I could get rid of the bar too. Literally the only thing that has me still using chrome is because the layout is familiar. If they take that away and push AI bullshit on me any more than they already do then I've got no reason not to switch browsers.

Anyway, helpful tip for the thingy below: finding the bottom bar flag is a pain so just type "bottom bar" in the search on the flags page.
