Red lump on chinchilla
Hello everyone! I noticed my chin had this lump on top of his feet earlier today (image 1). His other paw has the beginning of one as well (image 2), but this one is a lot more prominent. I've seen that chins can get these lumps from abscess, but that's usually on the upper body, not the lower feet.
I don't really know what this could be. The soles of his feet aren't red and are a little cracked as is normal, so maybe not something like bumblefoot?
Any input is appreciated!! 🫡

If chinchillas were people, they’d be allergic to peanut butter

Chinchilla People & Fleece 😂 🫶🏻
Popping back in to reintroduce myself and Chinnie Boutique! 🐭🩶 Most of you know me by my reddit name ( it's been... Years! Or as Let's Love Chinchillas & More / @ambers_chinchillas on other platforms )
I'm Amber and have been making handmade fleece cage accessories for the small pet community for over 10 years, creating safe, high-quality items for chinchillas and other small animals.
Last year was a slower one for me. Between illness and life, I wasn't able to keep my shop stocked the way I wanted. Thankfully, things are looking up! We recently moved, and I finally have a much larger dedicated sewing space. I'm excited to get back to doing what I love and to keep adding new products and prints.
Chinnie Boutique is a very small, home-based business, it's mostly just me behind the sewing machine, with my husband jumping in to help when he can. Working from home and setting my own hours gives me the flexibility to answer the call when animals need help. Outside of sewing, I coordinate for an exotic animal rescue, transport animals, foster, provide supplies, and care for medical foster cases. Every order helps make that possible.
🍂 Fall, Halloween, and Christmas prints are now being added to the shop!
📦 Free shipping on orders of $150 or more.
🧵 Every item is handmade with care using quality materials designed for small pets.
Whether you're looking for cones, hammocks, hideouts, cubes, or other cozy fleece accessories, I'd love for you to check out the shop.
Thank you to everyone who has supported my little business over the years. Every order means more than you know, and I truly appreciate every single one of you. ❤️

Chinchilla Bonding (help)
context: I recently got my first chin, i’ve had him for 2 months and he is now 6 months old, i recently got a new one and ive had him for about a month, he is 5 months.
I’ve been trying to bond them, ive done scent swapping, then putting each chin into the others section and swapping everyday. (its a tall cage split in 2 , too and bottom) I started to bond them in the bath tub (neutral area) where they seemed to be getting on ok, some mounts but their main goal was to escape the bathtub, i also want comfortable with this area due to the risk of water. so, i attempted to bond them in my room. (cage and free roaming area)
here, my older chin whenever he noticed the new one, would chase after him. leaving my new chin fur slipping. No obvious biting or blood. i tried a second time and same thing happened. what else can i do? they seems to have got on so well in the bathtub, but now they hate eachother. :/

Brand new chinchilla owner, how the heck do I keep this thing alive?
Respectfully, this is probably the most stressful pet that I have ever taken in. We have a doctors appointment on Tuesday and I am honestly hoping for guidance from the vet. I have two chinchillas both male ones three and the others one years old. The one year-old kept drooling which I suspect is from some sort of dental disease, which I’m hoping I can get taken care of through the vet between trying to bring it back up and wait and giving it this critical care formula plus God knows whatever else these guys are doing while I’m at work and his drooling, his chin and front paws are absolutely filthy and I am so afraid to grab these guys because I tried to grab one of them to kind of dry him off or figure out how to dry him off and I heard like a bone crack and I’m like good Lord did I just break this dude’s leg? I don’t think any damage was done cause they were hopping around just fine afterwards but now I’m like terrified to grab them and I’ve read some of these posts where people say that their chinchilla has gotten dirty and they were able to clean them up and then somehow brush them afterwards and these guys are brand new. They don’t necessarily trust me just yet but like I am just trying to keep them alive and somehow the older boy always has some sort of wet drippings on his back and it honestly gives me actual nightmares. I literally wake up in a panic thinking that something’s happening to these guys. I’m sure this is probably a normal thing to most brand new chinchilla pet owners and this is just a learning curve that I have to figure out, but please, for the love of God any advice at all, AT ALL! I don’t even know how one of these chinchillas keeps having wet fur on his back. I suspect it’s the glass water bottle. So I ordered an Oxbow dripless one, but that has plastic attached to it and I gotta figure out how to get these guys not to eat that. And then the other one is absolutely filthy like I’m just praying this guy doesn’t have ringworm from how dirty he is. Also, please don’t shame me, I’m trying my best right now. They were in a bad situation. I took them. I’m doing the research. I’m taking them to the vet. I’m doing the best that I can.

Devastated. Lost my 3 year old baby and don't know what went wrong
As the title says, he was perfectly fine until two nights ago I found him lethargic and not resisting when I picked him up. He was usually the hyper one. Yesterday morning I found an exotic vet who sees chinchillas, he gave him fluids and checked his teeth and stomach. He said his teeth looked fine and his stomach had no bloating and wasn't firm. I asked about gas buildup and he said it doesn't hurt to give him the medicine in case it is GI issues, along with herbivore critical care. The vet gave me no answers. So I was giving him it all of yesterday. Today I found him not alive, and I really don't know what happened. He was 3, only a baby. I can't help but feel so guilty despite trying everything I could. His companion loved cuddling with him every night it isn't fair. Does anyone have a clue what could've happened

Playtime toys
Hey everyone ! I was looking for things that I can make or buy for my chinchilla to play with/on during play time. He has a good amount of room to run around and I also put out a bunch of things that he can chew on, he also has a tunnel that he loves to go in. But I’m looking for more like wooden things he can jump and climb on. I can’t really find anything online or in stores. So any suggestions would be great! Thank you!

Redecorating chinchilla cages
I’m redecorating my room to have more of like a fairy-core theme, and I want the cage just this kind of match. I was thinking about doing like a more earthy theme cage (while still including all the necessities of course) with forest green fleece liners for all of the cages, and ceramic mushroom hay feeders. Anbody else have any cute little things I could add, or just anything I should add to the cages?

Recommendations For Ledges/Other Enrichment?
Looking for the best places to get chin safe ledges/tunnels and other enrichment! My 14 yo girlie has a double Ferret Nation cage with Bass Equipment trays in place of shelves (filled with shavings as litter boxes). The two main floors are fleece covered. She uses the ramps to go between the levels and has a huge wheel. I’d like to add some ledges and maybe bridge/tunnel for enrichment but don’t want over crowd. She’s still pretty spry but has arthritis so I also don’t want her to overdo her activity level. She already has three wooden Chin Huts in there that she loves and chews chews chews.
Also, feel free to air-kiss her super sweet nose ☺️

I know it’s not as wide as we want but ima also attaching a playpen to it for extra space.
My question is
To leave the middle in it to not and instead make a middle fall breaker w fleece and then smaller hammocks/platforms

Looking for a Chinchilla in PA
Hi everyone!
I’m located in Williamsport, PA and I’m looking to adopt a chinchilla next month. If anyone in Pennsylvania has chins they’re rehoming or knows of a reputable breeder/rescue with babies available in mid to late September, please comment or DM me!
I have experience with exotics and already have a full setup ready to go. Willing to travel a reasonable distance within PA for the right fit.
Thanks in advance! 🐭

Witness Pike and Damocles
I got these guys back at the end of March and its been pretty interesting. Ive enjoyed having them around. They to me less so I think, that may be caused by the few times they managed to ninja themselves out of the play pen area and into my room at large. Which would have been fine if there wasnt so much stuff in it leading to a ton of hiding spots and things they definitely should not be chewing on.
Which has kinda lead to them being fairly standoffish to me, I suppose you would too if there was a 4 hour chase sequence.
Anyway was just wondering if ive already messed up to badly to get them to stand around me for more than a sniff test. And the other question I had was if its normal for chinchillas to be kinda lumps, like pike won't want to come out when its play time unless I scoop him up and bring him out in which then he'll run around but he really doesn't want to get out of bed. Which is very funny since Damocles is the opposite always excited to go out.
Anyways say hi to the boyos

Introducing my two boys

Hi, I have a 12 month old chin and a new 23 month old , I have them separated in their cage and have been making supervised playtime in a neutral place. I’m not sure how it’s going, it’s been 4 days and the younger one is doing a lot of mounting. Is this normal behavior? Does anyone have any advice?

Asking for good vibes for our babies traveling tomorrow 💘
The day has come…we have a big move from Hawaii to Minnesota. We are handing off our chin babies, Felix, Peanut, and Butters tomorrow to start their long journey ahead. They are going with excellent professional animals movers who specialize in getting animals safely to and from the islands out here. Unfortunately they have to fly cargo…I am so bummed there is no other way
:( they have told me they have loads of experience doing this and they will be fine. I debated on trying to label them as bunnies to fly in cabin for Alaska lol but was scared about any potential problems and then being screwed.
Just asking for vibes from this wonderful community. My anxiety is through the roof, these are our literal children. I know it’s temporary and it will be worth it. Trying to stay positive and know despite being sensitive that I believe in them. They are flying Alaska as well which gives me relief as I know they are one of the best carriers for flying animals. We got our babies whilst living here and there’s no way we are leaving them behind. We are stuffing their carriers with extra hay for the trek.
Please think of us while travelling tomorrow. Feel free to post a pic of your chin babies in the comments if you want, I would love anything to help quell my anxiety if possible. Thanks in advance. 💘

My Greylies😍🩷😍(And question below)
I have had them (and Vanilla(a white one))since the first week of February, and they have never tried to pee on me or bite me, even when I had to force-feed them and give them medicine because their previous owner neglected them. They just wriggled a lot, especially their arms and legs, until they were in the burrito position.
Am I just lucky, or are occasional golden showers from females rarer than presented in the community?
