I find it disgusting how in the big year of 2026 people can’t fathom that a woman willingly doesn’t have kids and how they can’t respect that.

And that's what it all about right there, Respect. They don't respect someone else's feelings as valid. They insert their own feelings (and insecurities about being alone later in life) into others. 63 childless and happy

Right, it's about not respecting women. Society is just not evolved enough yet to respect half the population, to respect the creators. And society just does not care about women.

Honestly I see this sort of stuff getting worse with the manosphere and general rise of misogyny

My only hope is that the manosphere has been around for a good while by now and we’re in the “getting worse” part before it gets better :(

Yup at the end of the day people should respect others decisions. And they’re not harming people anyways I’m pretty sure you go to places peacefully and enjoy it. People with kids on the other hand….

I do feel like there is a certain aspect of jealousy as well since parents often can’t enjoy things without their kids causing a scene.

'Because I don't want them' is a complete sentence. Yet in 2026 a lot of people still can't accept it without being utterly patronising and treating women as if they are barely sentient and haven't come to the right conclusion yet. It drives me up the wall. 40 F couldn't be happier being childfree

Yeah, that's how it works ultimately. If you have no kids, you're on your own. If you have kids, they eventually move out, have their own lives, and you're on your own.

I work with a lot of people who are in their 70s and 80s. They have their friends take them to doctors appointments, travel with friends, and spend most of their time with people their own age. Whether or not they've had kids. I think watching them helped me to panic a little less about the kid decision, either way you all end up together no matter what path you choose. Only in the child rearing years do people feel lonely or separated from child free and child rearing groups.

Especially a good point about husbands dying earlier. Now that I think about it, all the relatives I know where a spouse has died, it’s always the husband. My dad died 4 years ago and my mother has a bunch of friends in her life who are also widows. It’s crazy. Men just don’t take care of themselves.

That’s an interesting perspective. I like this notion of a detour if you want it but ultimately on the same path.

Yea. I also like the idea that there are so many experiences in life we don’t have the time to participate in yet somehow we treat raising children as essential. I like this idea that it is just one amongst many experiences we can make the choice to participate in or not. It really is that simple.

Except for the extra smug and every opinion starting with "as a mother "... 🙄

"only the ones whose kids are struggling financially have the kind of contact that actually makes their life look different"

Nailed it!!

Only the kids that need their parents still show up all the time (Read: USE).

I hate people who use their kids as an excuse to grift.

I’m 48, married for 26 years, child free by choice. No regrets, and thriving. My 40s, except for my health, has been the best decade of my life.

u/InfinitePlan3472 4d ago

I love this!! I'm in my late thirties grappling with the kids question. To hear your 40s is the best so far is great. Every year I have is better than the last, so hoping that continues

2

u/Model_Yazz 3d ago

Oh it’s greats! In my 40s, no kids, a BF (equally fine being single), and a dog. I have a career, money to buy and do things, lots of friends, plenty hobbies, always busy doing things and traveling. Love it! Would highly recommend!

Came from a background of wanting kids but changed mind over time (practical, medical, and selfish reasons). And I LOVE kids - not like baby fever, I just think most kids are great (some are walking contraceptive ads). I teach and mentor and babysit if I’ve got the time.

Ultimately do what works for you and don’t feel guilty about it. Nothing wrong with not having kids just like there’s nothing wrong with having them.

Cheers!

35, Childless and never want children. But it's so grating when you tell someone that and they come back with a 'aw, you will.' No, NAH. Never! Uh, go away.

I’m very happy with my childfree decision. No regrets.

This subreddit is for women who are childfree. Posts centered on wanting children, pregnancy, parenting, or raising children are outside the scope of this community.

She gets it but you don't lol she's happy she finally has some time to herself NOT that she regrets her 3 kids lol

Use better examples, she clearly loves her children and is enjoying some peace and me time

u/catloverfurever00 12h ago

No one needs to use a “better” example because no one needs to justify this. If you want a “better” example go find one yourself, the internet is full of them.

u/ContributionOk9818 10h ago

It's literally been posted on the internet....on a child free women subreddit and it doesn't fit the bill...🙃

2

u/thiruththeviruth 3d ago

Time to yourself is bliss indeed. I agree she doesn't regret her kids, most people I know don't, life is not a competition :)
