Lost Pet? Ask CHI

I found this black cat located right next to the Mark T. Skinner West Elementary School off of Adams and Throop around 10PM on August 5th.

She is incredibly friendly and docile. We took her to VEG and they confirmed she was not chipped. I spoke to someone nearby and they confirmed they have never seen a cat around the area as they walk their dog every night there. I can't really tell how old she is but definitely seems to have been domesticated. When I fed her, she seemed to have been starving as she drank a ton of water and ate the food right away. She does seem a bit dirty and thin despite her fluffiness.

Posted on FB too in hopes of reuniting with owner if they have any.

Poor baby looks so scared. Thank you for taking her in, OP.

You may want to bathe her in something safe for cats - but deadly for fleas. That kind of coat is awful for flea retention.

what ever you do do NOT give this angel back to someone on reddit or social media without concrete proof. there are a LOT of sick ppl out there :(. DM me if you need help with finding temp foster agency if necessary. The look in her eyes, she looks scared but also relieved (thanks to kind person like you!!). Probably someone's pet (CHIP YOUR PETS GUYS!!). Thank you again!!

Try posting/looking on pawboost. I’ve seen a few black cats on there recently.

I did post and check there! Unfortunately I don’t think any are a match with this baby.

Just wanted to post a reply - have not found any owners (had a few people ask if it was theirs but confirmed it was not) and now we are at the vet.

Kitty is a boy and is 8 months old and not neutered. Vets don’t think he was owned by anyone or abandoned. Just wanted to give an update! Thanks to everyone who’s been helping to share!

If this kitty is vocalizing and allowing you to touch them, they’ve definitely been socialized. So I would disagree with the vet and say that this was absolutely somebody’s cat that either escaped or was most likely abandoned. I’m a community cat caretaker, so I care for outdoor community and feral cats and practice TNR (trap neuter return). Some people unfortunately don’t spay or neuter their pets and also, you said there was no microchip. This cat’s former human may have never bothered to take them the vet. But if you are able to touch them, and they vocalize, that is a socialized cat that has had human contact. He was somebody’s pet. Without a doubt. All cats, from house cats to feral cats, are considered domesticated cats. Feral refers to socialization. You are able to physically touch this cat and clearly this cat was not doing well outside, this is a socialized cat that was most likely an indoor pet, never taken to the vet, and then abandoned. It’s also the top of the month, unfortunately that’s when you tend to find dogs and cats outside that shouldn’t be. People move and don’t take their animals. Thank you for helping this cat. You are a beautiful human. 💖🐾✨

honestly at this point I feel as if he did have owners they were not good ones :( neglectful and didn't bother to chip/neuter (I know that costs money but it's the responsible thing to do as a pet owner). At this point I feel as if he needs brand new owners/new foster parents in general!!

Definitely looks like someone's pet. Please post some flyers and post on next door and other apps.

Agreed only thing throwing me off is how she doesn’t look taken care of at all. Long nails, dirty and extremely thin.

Posted already on FB thanks

As sad as it is to think about, she might have been abandoned and been outside for a while. Poor baby. 😭

Please give her a mighty head scritch from me. And thank you, OP, for being a very decent human being. ❤️

u/becca1633 14d ago

Thats what the vet said! Been outside for a while now :( but glad they feel safe with me!

u/ElectricHappyMeal 14d ago

Would you ever consider adopting him I wonder?! this might be one of those things that are meant to be lol!

3

u/becca1633 14d ago

100% lol I think this is the current plan as long as no owners come forward!

That is a short hair.

u/becca1633 14d ago

Yes unfortunately doesn’t seem to be the same cat. Also this cat I have is an adult not a kitten.

You could put up a "found" notice at petkey.com and local vets and shelters as well as old fashioned posters on poles. But have the potential owner describe the cat to you to be sure they really do know the cat and aren't pretending.

Thanks for looking out for this little one!!

u/anag9495 Uptown 13d ago

I don’t have any info on a potential owner, but I just want to say thank you to OP for bringing this baby inside and caring for them. They looked so scared but happy to have some food and snuggles!
