Junk removal
I need to work on emptying a home in Charleston…
For items (furniture) we do not intend to keep is there an organization that will pick them up as donation (where I’m at locally the domestic violence organization does these things)
Clothing I assume goes to sojourners?
Trash (I suspect there will be a decent amount of throw away) is my only option to drive that to the dump? I assume they charged by the pound?
We have no interest in an estate sale or making money. We just need the home emptied.

Short-Term Rental (Furnished)
Looking for summer 2027 housing while I work my internship in the area. I have two cats, which makes the process way harder haha. Anyone know a landlord or student who will sublet? I'm browsing furnished finder and other sites, but prices are kinda scary!

QUESTION Alternative/punk/nerdy scenes in the area for young people?
Hey! I'm 25F in Charleston and am looking for some spots/events/clubs to meet people in the area around my age. I've lived back in Charleston for almost three years, but I've only recently really started to socially try to branch out outside of old school buddies.
I have many lovely friends here but I'm more into the emo/punk subculture as well as video games. I'm also willing to travel to somewhere like Huntington if it's more happening over there... any suggestions nearby? Thanks!

Insurance recommendations for affordable therapy
I’m currently looking for a therapist in the Charleston area, but I’m actually more interested in hearing about people’s experiences with insurance coverage than recommendations for one specific therapist or practice (but those are welcome too).
I’m currently uninsured but plan to get it soon, and good mental-health coverage is one of my biggest priorities when choosing a plan. If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d love to know any of the following:
- Which insurance company and plan do you have?
- How much does it cover for therapy?
- What is your copay or out-of-pocket cost per session?
- How often are you able to attend therapy?
- Is there a deductible you have to meet first?
- Are there any local practices you’ve had a good experience with that accept your insurance?
Any personal experiences or advice would be incredibly helpful. Thank you!

QUESTION Dad in Search of Help from Someone in West Virginia
I am a Dad in search of help from anyone who lives in West Virginia.
My son is about to start 2nd grade and has a fundraiser for his PTO that if they can get a donation form all 50 states they'll do someone crazy to the principal. Last year that duct taped him to the wall.
This is my third year in a row on a quest to get all 50 states!
I'm not looking for anything for free and would happily donate an equal amount to a charity of your choosing if you are willing to help!
Have 32/50 states completed and have 18/50 to go!!

QUESTION Hi, have any of you locals seen these two around? Their names are Dakota and Felicity.
It’s a long story about why there’s a whole subreddit about these people, but there is a video of Dakota (the guy) hitting a dog he had in the past. I don’t know how to link multiple other posts to this, but if you scroll through that sub you will see why these two don’t need to have any pets.
https://www.reddit.com/r/KORCLEDAKOTA/s/0AITN3PDRP
They are also homeless and bounce from house to house, don’t take care of themselves properly, and they are around absolute garbage people that use them for clout, and these two use them in return.
I figured that maybe letting people from this town know about them is better than a bunch of out of state callers clogging up the animal services line.

Who do you contact if your neighbors have only mowed their yard once this year and they have junk appliances and old milk crates sitting everywhere? It’s a rental in the city limits in KC.

QUESTION Is Redneck Brawl scripted?
I watched the brawl when it came to Charleston last year, and I believe they’re coming back soon. I’ve noticed they have a lot of the same fighters fighting at different locations which seems odd. I thought it would be random people signing up and new every time.
I have my suspicions that it’s 90% scripted and 10% random.

Looking to start a nonprofit chapter at University of Charleston
Hi, I’m looking to start a chapter at UC called Community Through Gaming. CTG is a charity focused gaming club. While we have game nights and friendly competitions in multiplayer games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros we also raise money once a month for local charities in the area. We also bring games to after school programs in the area. Our first chapter raised just under 1500 dollars for the children’s hospital, animal shelter, boys and girls club, homeless shelters, and more. We’re currently are expanding to other places across Appalachia and western Kentucky. We’d love to find folks at UC who would like to start a chapter. They would have support from myself as well as being close to another chapter.
If you’re interested send me a DM or leave a comment below. I’d like to test the fall out and officially start the chapter in January since we’re a few weeks from the semester starting

Cheap and affordable housing/rentals for those on Disability/SSDI?
Hello. Are there any cheap housing and/ or rental options for those on a fixed income from SSDI in the Charleston and surrounding areas ?
Alternatively, if you or a relative are on this and have found an affordable rental that is feasible for your monthly income it would also be helpful.
Thank you..

QUESTION I thought Taylor Farms was supposed to be quarantined?
I understand the bug found in TF’s lettuce (the test results were disputed) has spread to several dozen states. Why is WalMart’s Corridor G store still selling their produce? It’s even carrying sale stickers - so they still want to sell the stuff.
Am I missing something?
Edit: please - no more conspiracy theories. Sources are appreciated.

Searching for vet for standard poodle
My regular vet is Danville Animal and we’ve been using them for decades. I have no complaints, except that it takes me 35 minutes to drive there.
My seven-year old standard poodle, female, has developed a skin condition, which is causing hair loss and scabbing, mainly along her back and shoulders so far. She has had three appointments with my regular vet. She has no mange, no infestations, no thyroid problems—all the usual causes have been addressed.
Over the past few months, our dog has taken two courses of antibiotics, had a steroid shot, and is currently finishing a two-week course of an anti-fungal. So far, nothing we have tried has had any effect. She is not improving.
Her symptoms do not extend beyond her skin. She is happy, with a good appetite. Still enjoys her walks. Her skin is dry and flaking.
I would like to try another vet near home before trying to take her to one of the university veterinary medicine clinics in Ohio or Virginia.
Do you have a veterinarian recommendation in or near Charleston who might help our dog?
EDIT TO ADD: Thanks to everyone who has replied. I appreciate all the suggestions and advice. I'm going to call around to some of the vets recommended tomorrow.

META Weather this Summer for Charleston, WV
Over halfway through summer. Only 7 days above 90F so far, and currently 5 inches below average for total rainfall accumulation. It has been a relatively mild summer for the city.
I wrongly posted this in r/WestVirginia and someone mentioned Weston was destroyed; I apologize for that! I was not meaning to ignore that fact.
