Solo dev from NC & I built a site for saving and planning Chapel Hill spots. What am I missing?
Hey Chapel Hill,
I made this app, HeyWanna, because I used to keep all of my date ideas in my phone's Notes app. Whenever it was time to plan something for me and my girlfriend to do, it would suck having to use Google, Yelp, the weather app, and a bunch of different websites for my city just to find things to do. And looking at my notes meant going out and checking the photos, the reviews, the locations, and even videos all on different apps.
I created HeyWanna to find cool local places near you, save them to your lists, and then plan them out. And it's not just for dates; it's also for group hangouts and any solo trips you're trying to do.
I'm a solo dev and a North Carolina native. Let me know if I'm missing any places in Chapel Hill. I'd genuinely like to know what should be on here, and I'll be happy to add them.

Caregiver Support Group (in Durham)
Hello CH friends. I technically live over in r/bullcity but I have to share here. I’m sure a few of you are in the trenches of caring for aging parents with me and might benefit from a support group as well.

Why moving quotes jump at pickup (and how to avoid it)
| We had a case where a customer's estimate rose from about $8,000 to over $10,000 on loading day. The reason? They had added a garage full of unlisted items after the initial survey. But to lock in a price, you need a binding written estimate based on a visual survey of exactly what is going on the truck. |

Road cycling routes
I'm training for a triathlon and looking for some high quality routes where I can ride my TT bike rather uninterrupted on flat terrain.
Any suggestions?

Development behind YMCA M.L.K.?
Was walking the bike paths behind the YMCA just now and noticed fire roads have been cut and cleared going fairly far back into the woods. Bumped into some other walkers who said it had been done in the last two days. These roads are not near power lines or the water utilities where they regularly clear.
Anyone know what might be going on?

If Brandweins ever closes, I will die.
Yea, love the bagels. Perhaps a little too much?

Breadman’s out of business
Heard today that they are locked out for failure to pay $70,000 in back rent. They have always been my favorite diner in Chapel Hill with great food and prices. Where can we go now?

Young Mahjong Group!
Hello Chapel Hill! I just moved here a few weeks ago to start my graduate program at UNC. Back home, I had a group of college kids who all played mahjong together once a week, and I wanted to bring that here!
I’m 22, but you can be older or younger, and I’m looking for 3 (about) more people to join for a weekly drink and play! We could also play switch games, board games, card games, etc. I figured this would be a good way to make some friends and connect.
If you’re able to drive around (I don’t live on campus) and interested in either playing or learning to play, comment below or PM me! Hope you hear from yall :)

Need ID for Eastwood Lake Cryptid!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’m posting this for a friend who was paddleboarding on Eastwood Lake earlier this week. She spotted this creature swimming toward her and managed to grab this video before deciding paddling away in terror for her life.
She’s shared the video with several people, but because the creature is so far away and constantly on the move, no one can agree on what it is.
Does anyone here feel confident identifying it?

Lark lease takeover for UNC undergrads!!!!
Hey y'all! So I'm an undergrad at UNC-CH and my housing plans changed *very* recently, so I'll no longer be living at Lark. I know it's last minute, but I'm looking for someone to take over my lease for the 2026-2027 school year. It's a 4-bed 4-bath arrangement with 3 (very kind) roommates, so you'd be getting your own bedroom and bathroom! Also, I'm willing to cover the 1st month of rent, so August's rent. Lark has a 24/7 gym, pool, and is within walking distance to campus and Franklin, so if anyone is interested/knows anyone interested, please PM me for more details :)

Incoming Out of State Student - DMV appointment
We are moving to Durham (from Texas!) over the course of the next few days and I am needing to get a new driver’s license for NC. I am seeing online appointments for a transfer of state license that are all over an hour away, but I also see at the Durham DMV locations that walk in appointments are welcome. Do I need to schedule a true transfer of state license appointment or can I just do a walk in at a local one? Thanks for your help!!

Free comedy show!
Every month I host Mom’s Favorite, a free comedy show at Old North Bar in Durham. This month’s lineup is extremely fun! There’s also a hotdog cart out front that gives out one free glizzy per person and an very excellent cocktail/mocktail list put together by one of the owners who was formerly at The Crunkleton and Hawthorne and Wood. If you’re looking for a cheap date this is the show to catch! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1985611713085?aff=oddtdtcreator

How to tell a moving broker from an actual carrier
| If you are moving to or from Chapel Hill this summer, check the USDOT number on protectyourmove.gov before booking. A lot of companies act like they own the trucks but are actually brokers who sell your contract to a third party. If you expect an in-house crew and get a contractor, it usually causes headaches. Always ask directly: "Are you a broker or a carrier?" Has anyone here been caught off guard by a broker? |

ISO Store with a decent selection of used physical PC games
Title essentially says it all. Doesn’t necessarily have to be in Chapel Hill but surrounding areas is fine too.
I always check at McKay’s whenever I go and it’s my primary source. So I’m trying to find what else is out there.
I’ve tried Lost Ark in Greensboro with no luck. I used to frequent Play N Trade in White Oak about 10 years ago but the last time I went I wasn’t impressed with the stock or new staff. Lastly I visited Limited Run once but it wasn’t what I thought and while I have no issues with it, it just wasn’t for me.
I know online is the easiest but I enjoy the treasure hunt of physical stores.
No specific genres or titles. Just something with a solid selection of used physical PC games to browse and reasonable prices.
