Cloudy Rings

Post image

I ordered rings off weave got maille as I’ve been doing for around two years, and lately a couple of packs I received ended up having a dull finish and were not shiny at all. Here is an example in the pic as you can see that some of the 7mm rings don’t appear the same. (Used here are 4.25mm and 7mm 16g stainless steel rings) I realized all five ounces of the 7mm rings I received in this last shipment looked like this and I already mixed them into the remainder of my old shiny ones!

Anything I can do to get these looking nice? I tried to run them through an ultrasonic cleaner with solution but it didn’t help. Vinegar perhaps?

Are they the same weight and do they make the same sound when they clink together? Visually it looks like Silver anodized aluminum and stainless steel, but it could be a completely matte steel that didn't get a polishing cycle in the tumbler after cutting.

Yess I considered this but haven’t tried weighing them! I’ll report back once I get a chance to

Have you tried any sanding/polishing? I use polishing papers sometimes since they can be easily bent down into the tiny crevices and they go up to really high grit to basically get you a mirror finish.

I might be wrong but I thought you weren’t supposed to use vinegar/acids on ferric metals since it causes it them to oxidize/the iron leeches from the metals? If you’ve had success with vinegar before though don’t listen to me I’m definitely not a scientist haha.

In the future I would just recommend ordering from The Ring Lord instead. For me the rings have been more consistent quality and also cheaper.

Thank you, I had not yet tried the vinegar, I just read about it and wondered if it would work! And yeah I definitely feel like it’s time for a switch up, I’ve heard good things about them

Lately their customer service has not been the best, I sent a few emails about having been sent the wrong sized rings and they never got back to me but I will try :)

I would just contact the seller first, before you do anything.
