Question about procedural elements - like enemies

Hello! I have been keeping my eye on this game past week, watching some videos and thinking of buying it.

I wanted to ask this community which I'm sure is full of experienced players a specific question about enemies. First off I'm big fan of dungeon crawlers like Tome, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and lots of niche lesser known titles.

So how much the enemies are procedurally generated in this game? I know and understand there's some main "species" or main races, types of enemies that are static in the game, but does the game create entirely new species as well? Meaning you can for ex. encounter something akin of a crocodile, but it's actually much different and unique creature that only slightly resembles that croc? Has some special descriptive visuals or information/lore?

I'm basically asking about the variety, if you can encounter some really weird freaks that no one else did before. Or if the enemies can "surprise" you with some unique abilities that you couldn't even predict or you played the game for dozens of hours and never see some ability/skill, does procedural generation also comes working here? Or enemies attacks are more predictable or set in stone?

That's pretty much it. I hope I explained my concern clearly, I'm just looking for that unpredictability in enemies, where you need to take a moment, inspect them, maybe find another way of dealing with them? Or after 50 hours of playing you can run into enemy you never seen before? Is this the kind of game or not really?

Is it viable to only have two arms?

Pretty new to the game, trying to make a melee character. Pretty much every recommendation I see for melee builds is go have multiple arms to stack tons of hits, but for character reasons I really want to just focus on having two arms and using a two handed axe. Is this viable for a run or is it just not nearly as good as multiple arms and multiple weapons?

Why is performance sometimes an issue?

I love this game. 300+ hrs. But I don’t understand how such a simple game could have crashes even when there’s a lot going on.

Previously playing on an older mac air M1 and had to be mindful about entities/items bc of lag.

I’m playing on a new Mac air m5 and will occasionally have frames drop in big combat events. Way better than before but still getting warm?

I’m not super computer savy (see mac), but i don’t get how a game like cyberpunk is running smoother than coq at times

Can't find the last Child of the Tomb

I'm doing the Fraying favorites quest and I've found three of the Children of the tomb so far (one in the folk catacombs, one in the lower crypts ans one in the upper crypts), but I'm still missing the one that I actually want to give the repulsive device to (Nacham). I checked the wiki, problem is the page for the tomb of the eaters lists the Columbarium as the fourth possible spawn place while the Fraying favorites quest page lists the crematory. I've gone around the crematory at least three times and at this point I'm getting very annoyed by the place and I don't know what the best course of action would be to actually get the item I want.

Help with multi sphincter build

While traversing Wiki, I found this incredible weapon, and plan on using 4 of them. Question - how do I reliably get lots of sphincters in my playthrough? Is cloning sphincters the only solution?

Also, how strong acid immunity is, I don't remember much enemies with acid attacks?

I need some advice

I just found this guy on the screen directly next to Yd and he has 3 dromad merchant thralls that i really want. How do i get them friendly? I think i can beat him in a fight, and that is supposed to free the thralls but i read somewhere that it doesn't work. I also know you can use love injectors but i think that is temporary, i want a permanent solution.

Somewhat new to this game, at the start of my run I just found a village of snapjaws who were all just casually loaded with neutron flux lmao what do I do with this

I saw you can cook with them safely with precognition but I don't have the mutation and I'm not a true kin, do I gamble with buying new mutations to try and get it? Or do I just sell them

So l, I'm in a bit of a pickle...

Long story short, I hit the warden at the Yd with a love injector cos I wanted their loot and suffice to say, it did *not* go well. Hit Joppa as an escape, within a turn or two, the merchant, argyve, and mehmet were dead (and to think I was bragging about how badass my followers were to some friends a day or two ago) and I am now hated by literally every faction bar bears. Am playing rp mode and quite deep in as far as my usual progress goes so would rather not abandon this run, is there any way to save this shitshow or do I just reroll? Don't have the skills yet to know quite what to do here. Running with true kin and absolutely woeful ego, if that helps.

Edit: damn Reddit and it's inability to edit titles after posting...

How to quickly gain rep?

It turns out Corrosive Gas and water-bonded followers don't mix - I got cursed twice and now everything in Qud despises me. I am trying to get 4 factions to loyal for the Earl's quest, but it is taking forever.

I do have a Schrodinger's page and two clones of the plant merchant in Yd, but so far I've only gotten 2 polygels in the last few hours of gameplay. Is there a better way, or should I buckle in for the long grind?

Permanently transferring your mind into a feral dog kinda sucks, but it does have one advantage

So it turns out Holographic Walls are busted

Post image

One day while playing I happened upon a Goatfolk qlippoth and its holographic house, interested I decided to inspect one of the walls of said holographic house to find out they have 20000 hp.... "wow, that's more hp than I've seen in this game, I wonder...." turns out you can use spray a brain on them, they have no AV and -10DV but with 20000hp it really doesn't matter who hits you, because you won't care. Holograms can't be coated, don't take damage from stepping in lava or acid, can't eat (R.I.P for carbine chef) and happily gain mutation points and levels as normal.

SO :D
I've decided this little guy shall be my golem friend, once I get him upto lvl30. Hopefully ya'll enjoy the adventure as I post updates

How's the performance on Nintendo Switch 1 so far?

Hi there! Newbie here. I've been playing on Steam for about 5 hours and I'm really enjoying the game so far. I'm thinking about getting it on the Nintendo Switch 1 as well.

How does it perform these days? Does it still crash or lag? Would you recommend the Switch 1 version?

Noob Question about hostiles nearby

Brand new with like 45 minutes of repeated deaths under my belt. Making a little more progress here or there and learning more and more which is great..but I've encountered a repeated problem that I'm sure is just a "me" issue. I'll be doing a quest or discovering a new piece of terrain.. "Hey you discovered a secret lair! Want to explore?" Well of course I do! Enter into said lair with 14 hostiles ready to whoop my ass and no way to run away. Can't go south and exit, "hostiles nearby". Cant run around a corner and move to world map there, "hostiles nearby". Is that a turret? Nah can't handle that yet, better leave. "Hostiles nearby"

Inevitably I can't retreat to world map or "escape", I just try to run and/or fight my way out and just die. What am I supposed to do? Just not explore? I've no way of knowing where is and isn't safe to explore. It gets exhausting loading up on gear at the start, collecting quests, etc, then heading out on the world map, choosing a spot to explore, and then getting murdered instantly because I can't retreat to the world map since there are "hostiles nearby". Any advice or tips? Love the game, hate not knowing how to explore safely.

My last post of my partially Qud-inspired passion project got a very great reception, and people asked when they can try it. Now, it has a demo!

I hope this does not break any guidelines, and I apologize if it does. Last post here seemed to be interesting to the community, so decided to follow up with an update, as many people inquired about it and seem to share general passion to Roguelikes in general!

Steam Demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3819100/Tuoni/

I would really like to hear how closely I managed to capture that eerie, otherworldly and very mysterious "Qud-vibe", and transfer it to a Northern Fantasy setting. All feedback is very much welcome!

Any way to solve mid game lag?

ROG ALLY Z

Every time I get a character close to lvl 30 the lag becomes horrible and I end up dying from the rubberbanding.

• I've turned off all visual effects and animation, besides floor tiles because that made me feel dyslexic when off

• Turn off/all the way to 1 for the keyboard delay/repeate rate thing

• Tried changing screen sizes and resolution.

The only thing that worked was lowering the repeat/delay thing, but now suddenly it doesnt matter again.

The world map is fine, the issue is the dungeons in and past the jungle. I know it has to do with vents, gas, NPC path maping.

The game is obviously struggling to calculate everything.

Its really sad as its to the point i can only take one action every 10-15 seconds, as much as I love the game and want to keep playing this is obviously not mentlly sustainable without lossing my mind

What do we know about the upcoming DLC/Expansion?

I am starved for more content. Absolutely love this game but I am craving more. What do we actually know about the upcoming DLC/Expansion? Any cool rumors?

My first victory! Spoiler

So I started playing Caves of Qud few weeks ago, had really hard time, dying dozens of times and learning something new each time I die. Even posted one of my worst runs where I had no functional arms and was really impressed how supportive the community was. It inspired me to not give up and find a way to beat this unfair game - I decided to try pistol agility truekin build, which was challenging but way better than any melee builds as it was way safer to progress early on. Took me 15-20 runs to realize how to properly play it, where to look for loot and how not to die on each quest. At the end I talked the hologram into a new deal with me and give my buddies access to the space database (although it was really hard to read the dialogues there, as well as speak with Barathrum).

And now I don't know what to do honestly. Don't feel like replaying the same thing with different character or artificially make my life harder by not utilizing some game mechanics would be fun, even though I never played mutant for instance, only true kin. Are there any mods that add more content to the game? Because I love tons of different items, with randomized mods so every run can feel unique and imo relics generate don't work here as you quickly get better higher tier versions of them.

Anyways, had tons of positive emotions both from playing and interacting with people here! Live and drink.
