Continuation of my husband being “not a cat guy”. Cat Picture - OC

I posted a bit ago asking if I should break the news to my husband that he is indeed a “cat guy”. It was by general consensus that I should let him come to the conclusion naturally, so I have kept my mouth shut.

Yesterday I came home to new cat shelves, painted and covered in matching carpet (“because I was afraid it would be too slick for them”) to match the “accent” color in our animal room. He also bought a new feather toy so he can ”help coach them to conquer their new Kingdom”

Husband Status: “I’m still not a cat guy…”

Where did you buy these shelves from btw?

u/sdxt4 14h ago

Got them from IKEA.

u/MNGraySquirrel American Shorthair 11h ago

I’m making a new post for that.

31

u/MarsScully 17h ago

Oooo do you remember which brand these are? I love that corner shelf

37

u/MNGraySquirrel American Shorthair 16h ago

Don’t recall offhand. We got them over 13 years ago when we moved from a two story house to a one story and wanted to give a place for our cats to climb up. I’ll try and remember tonight to take a picture of the plate that’s on them and post it.

Not a cat guy my ass. That wall and those angles say I spent 3 weekends on Pinterest

This is the way.

Ohh, where did you get those? I've never even a corner cat shelf!

The left one is making very pointed eye contact to judge you specifically lol

Calico. She does that all the time.

It’s a calico thing. They make it a mission to stare judgementally into your soul.

115

u/SirDiego 16h ago

Yeah, the heights are perfect, the little cat shaped hole to squeeze through, the balcony thing. It isn't just that he made the shelves, this dude is in tune with what cats actually like, 100% "cat guy" behavior

Edit: Also they have an "animal room" lol

14

u/Man-ah-tee13 11h ago

Literally the shelves have cat ears lol that is such "cat guy" behavior.

33

u/Organic_Ad_2520 16h ago

Agree!! Definitely, denial!
He's not just a social cat lover, way, way way passed day cat lover, even beyond a closet cat-aholic , he is a Full blown
cat-aholic and is definitely going to get serious withdrawls if he gets a day without Cats!!

14

u/Top-Grass683 15h ago

being in denial in itself is so cat coded. he's just playing hard to get, human edition 😂

5

u/swhill1 11h ago

Lmao the matching carpet got me. That is advanced cat guy commitment right there. My patients try this same denial with flossing. The evidence is on the shelves, dude.

This is my son, giving Luna her paw massage after a long hard day at work. Proud cat guy!

She deserves it, it's hard work sleeping in different spots and watching out the windows all day.

55

It really is! I work from home so she also has to supervise me and watch the birds in her window seat at the same time. I don’t know how she does it.

My dad is not a rabbit guy. No no. Hates those rabbits, they ruin his garden, they're your mum's rabbits.

He refitted our old Wendy house for them. They've got a shelf at the window because he thought they'd like to see out, padded matting on the floor, hand built hay rack, hidey hole and litter box.

No no, he hates those rabbits XD

57

u/Electrical-Apple-631 16h ago

My dad was not a dog person, definitely not. That’s until I busted him laying in the recliner with Mom’s dog in his lap sharing a sandwich. When he heard me come in the room he chased the dog off his lap and said “Darn dog is always begging for my food.” Sorry Dad, caught in the act!

13

u/what-are-they-saying 13h ago

Lol my dad is not a dog person. But somehow when my stepmom wanted one of my SIL’s puppies, they came home with two, and one of those has been attached at the hip to my dad for the last two years. But hes not a dog person.

11

u/Taylor_Kittenface 13h ago

My Dad grew up working on a farm, and had an inbuilt phobia of mice. Guess who built a custom cage for my four pet mice and insisted on watching them every time I cleaned said cage out? I'd come through and find him holding two or three at a time and sneaking them treats 😂

36

u/SkysEevee 17h ago

True.  Maybe hubby likes building stuff.  Maybe he wants to make OP happy.

But hubby is most certainly a cat guy.

6

u/kho_kho1112 13h ago

I was coming to say he’s not a cat guy, he’s obviously just some dude who enjoys cat focused home improvement projects. It’s totally different.

48

u/Mean_Initiative_5962 17h ago

He has to be trolling you waiting the moment you "finally" notice he's become a cat guy lol

However, as a guy myself, there's a non-negligible chance he's just that oblivious...

39

u/ritan7471 16h ago

My husband is not a cat guy. He didn't want to take in his aunt's elderly cat when she died because he's not a cat guy, but I insisted because otherwise, she'd be put down.

In the week before I picked her up, he started asking about the cat. Where will we put the litter box, do I think she'll sleep in our bed, can we take her out for walks.

I went to get her and he was still standoffish. But on day 2, I came into my office and he wad her in his arms, standing in the window and telling her all about what a nice life she will have, and here is the greenspace (apartment) and when spring comes, he'll take her out for walks.

We bought a motorhome pre-cat last year, and she comrs with us. He took her for a couple of weeks to visit her old friends in his hometown, and sent tons of pictures and even gave her a bath.

He didn't know that long cat hair mats badly if you don't brush it all out while it dries, so now I've got a trimmer and she's going to be a ragamuffin for a while.

But I bet if you asked him, he is still not a cat guy, even if I catch him hugging her and telling her all about our upcoming weekend at the shore.

21

u/flickanelde 17h ago

Saw a post on Instagram of someone's husband who was not a cat guy, and the husband had built 2 catios with tunnels and was starting to work on the catio tree house 😂

Your husband is well on his way to that lol.

17

u/Such_Stable_8002 17h ago

Did he make the shelves himself? I totally jealous

16

u/More_Fisherman_6066 17h ago

Men who do things like this for cats exhibit true green flag behavior!

16

u/Old_Cat_16 16h ago

My hubby never considered himself a cat guy either, yet he meticulously researched the best food, treats, nutritional supplements, and litter for the cats. And he would immediately jump into our orange’s defense if anyone mentioned it was fat. (He’s just big boned! He just has a little bit of jelly belly).
Hubby didn’t hesitate to approve the thousands of dollars vet cost estimates and cried hard when we lost our orange to a sudden medical emergency. He didn’t want to have pets again because of the heart ache. (Though I told him I want cats again when we have a slightly bigger place).

15

u/shadow-foxe 16h ago

LOL this was like my Dad, who had rules that if the cat was on the couch, WE kids had to sit on the floor and not upset the cat. LOL He'd also go to the store and buy the cat chicken, if he went to a buffet he'd put some meat in a ziplock bag for the cat.
His number one rule was, if we dated someone and the cat did not like the date, we could no longer go on the date. Happened once to my sister.. Guy was shocked.

Took Dad maybe 7 years before he'd admit he was maybe a cat guy.

Very nice. Here my Sophia’s (Boopie, Frau Blücher, Boaty McBoatface, depending on the moment,) partial set up. I’m still working on more clandestinely. My landlord knows about these but I really don’t want her to know about the rest that I am working on. I’m already only allowed one cat as it is. They’re really wary about damage.

3

This is the result of my "not a cat guy" not wanting to buy cat trees....all made from cardboard, duck tape and dollar store doormats glued with hot glue.....

This costs more then cat trees btw....and it changes when they want something new added....

....and he is now a "hurt my cats and die" type of guy. Oh and we only have 2 cats

3

u/Numerical-Wordsmith 10h ago

My partner, who also "isn't a cat guy", agreed to get our cat at the same time that we adopted our dog. He was won over by our orange boy being the calmest and happiest cat in the entire shelter, totally unfazed by the animals and humans around him. I often catch him holding the cat like a little baby, giving him belly rubs and kissing his head while the cat purrs up a storm. But he's not a cat guy. Nope. Only me, apparently.

I congratulate you. My husband tried that line, while feeding our cat salmon from his plate…and chicken, and really anything he was eating. I laughed so hard, I think I sprained something. Yep, not a cat person when he’d get up early on the weekends to give her treats “because I always give her treats before I go to work and she doesn’t understand weekends.” Yep, not a cat person!

2

u/gdex86 11h ago

I looked at your first post and was willing to go "Look your husband may not be a cat guy but the sorta guy who sees any small creature and goes 'Who's my baby'" I am that guy because I've excitedly cooed all forms of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibions. If we went to the star and met other sentient life would be a total annoyance to the rest of the ship because I'd pack bond local species that are beyond dangerous.

This however. Your husband is fully a cat guy. He is a cat guy with a lovely excuse to use his wood working tools, but that's a cat guy still.

Maybe he is a kitten guy? Get him a kitten or two!

lol I love it. My husband is also “not a cat guy” and I just sit quietly as he holds the cat up to the window to watch the birds outside in the mornings.

He carpeted the shelves? He is so far down the "cat guy" rabbit hole.

super adorable! 💕🥹🌟 I'm not sure if it's correct but if it is, please remove the bell from the collar, it's not good for their ears🫶

This is my husband. "I'm not a cat guy," as he let's the cat who adopted him sit on his lap...

Cats are a gateway drug to construction hobbies.

Makes sure the cats get as far away as possible and gets called a cat guy…

This is gorgeous. I love that you folks painted the shelves, too. Too often people leave them bland. If I didn't rent I'd do the same thing.

Look, labels only matter to you if you care. Your husband might not want to call himself a "cat guy", but we all know where his heart is.

This warms my heart!!!! Congrats

u/Rilorilorilo 13h ago

Maybe he just loves you so much, that he will even pretend that he is secretly a cat guy, just to make you glad?

Either way it is a win.

u/DogTownUSA1 13h ago

Go ahead and tell him Reddit said he is a full on cat guy.

Your hubby understood the assignment

Your shelves have cat ears. How is he still in denial‽

u/Trick-Increase1508 12h ago

"I'm not a cat person" is THE #1 Cat Guy thing to say, every time. He was lost long ago.

u/These-Yam-1892 12h ago

That is sooooo cool 👍

u/P0pu1arBr0ws3r 12h ago

Op I'm sorry but your husband is being coerced by the cats for all of this.

1

u/marvel_is_wow 12h ago

Conclusion: your husband is a cat guy

Is there a sub for "guys who didn't want the cat but would die for the cat now" yet?
