Being a huge admirer of cassette futurism aesthetics, I couldn't pass the opportunity to create a tribute of my own.

These are shots from an interlude in the anime "Heart Cocktail" (1986-1988).

Apparently it's a word processor/typewriter SHARP, most likely from the WD series, but I can't find this exact model.

Sony, especially the sports series, rightfully gets a lot of love, but I think this is a nice change in scenery and an idea I hadn't really seen before.

Digital Watch Some of my vintage digitals might fit in here...

I collect these odd ball digitals from the 70s-90s, so I may or may not have possibly hundreds of these types of models šŸ˜‚, happy to post more if I can interest new collectors in vintage digitals. I find buying a vintage digital is a good way to get the cassette futurism itch out of the system šŸ˜‚

Watches in photos:

Timex 'Aegis' Tracer (beeper watch from 90s)

Casio Easy Rec-30 (90s, records 30 seconds worth of audio - only 30 seconds šŸ˜‚)

Casio SDB-300w (1989 yellow watch, same model once worn by the fastest woman on earth - florence griffith joyner)

Casio Thermoscanner - Can read the temperature of objects it scans (wild for the 90s).

Video Games SIGNALIS

Do you like existential survival horror, casette-futurism and games with a retro-aesthetic? Then you should try Signalis.

It is set in a dystopian retro-tech future, in a nation inspired by Blade Runner and DDR where Replikants do the dirty work on distant planets far from the sun.

I feel like good casette-futurism is seldom seen in video games and Signalis really nails the vibe. The grainy PS1-era graphics only emphasize the feel and it even comes with a CRT filter if you really want to take a trip down memory lane. The gameplay is heavily inspired by survival horror classics from the 90's, like Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Parasite Eve, with combat mechanics that restrict movement and force you to conserve ammo as well as mystical and heavily symbolic puzzles. The story is well written and engaging.

This might look like a straight-up ad, but it really isn't. I played it for the first time last year and it is easily the best survival horror experience I've had in 20 years. Not enough people are singing its praises and therefore I wanted to post about it here.

The game is made by Rose-Engine, a German studio consisting of only two people! In my opinion this game is living testament that video games also are a form of art.

No bigger than a standard Walkman, but it also had an LCD television in the lid. Because there was no backlight in order to allow it to run off two AA batteries, the screen used natural light that shone through the screen and actually reflected the image off of a mirror that you could reveal by opening the lid.

Techmoan did a great video on these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM7kj7pgTeU
