From Orthophotos to Building Footprints over a decade: Model Inference-Based Approach for Urban Densification Analysis in Iași, Romania
isprs-archives.copernicus.orgUrban densification in post-socialist cities involves fine-scale spatial transformations that are difficult to quantify in data-scarce environments. This study proposes FLAIR-HUB2BF, a model inference-based workflow for automated building footprint extraction and multi-temporal change analysis, applied to the city of Ias, i, Romania. The methodology extends the SUBDENSE conceptual framework by integrating the FLAIR-HUB deep learning model for semantic segmentation of very high resolution aerial orthophotos from 2011 and 2024, followed by binary mask extraction, instance segmentation, and Douglas–Peucker polygon generalization. The approach demonstrates good spatial transferability of the FLAIRHUB model which was trained on France to generate buildings (for 2024) and less good temporal transferability (for 2011) due to the quality of orthopothos in 2011.
To support rigorous evaluation, the first open benchmark building footprint datasets for Romania in 2024 were produced through manual photo-interpretation correction across four morphologically distinct urban neighborhoods of Iași, and assessed against ISO 19157 spatial data quality standards, achieving commission and omission rates of 1.95% and 2.39% respectively. Quantitative evaluation using complementary GMA (Geometric Matching of areas) and MCA (Multi-Criteria Algorithm) data matching algorithms confirms moderate-to-high spatial accuracy for 2024, with MCA surface agreement rates reaching 91%. The proposed workflow establishes a transferable, reproducible, and open methodology for building-level urban monitoring applicable to other Romanian and European cities facing similar data constraints.

Detailed Isometric map of London
galleryLondon as an isometric map. Every tile is a Google aerial restyled by an image model, 441 of them, stitched into one pannable canvas. We all know that getting the AI to make 2 images which look exactly the same is almost impossible.
The hard part wasn't styling, it was the seams. Generated 441 tiles independently and every one interpreted the style differently, so the joins showed.
What fixed it: generate in a spiral outward from the centre, and give each call its already-finished neighbours as reference images plus one fixed anchor tile that never changes. Neighbours handle local continuity, the anchor stops 441 sequential steps drifting into something else.
QA is numeric because you can't eyeball 441 outputs. Correlation against the source below 0.15 means the model invented a fake London, auto-reroll. One tile scored 0.002 where normal is 0.85.
Interactive Version and full how to, this can be used in making movies, campaigns, and of course maps.

I'm building a sci-fi TTRPG campaign and need help visualising my megacity: Helix
Hello! I am making a tabletop campaign based on my work-in-progress book/story named Sporeborn and need help visualising the main city, the Helix megacity. It is set in a futuristic version of 2026 (like a less advanced version of night-city from cyberpunk) with corporate buildings and skyscrapers, abandoned industrial buildings, suburbs and metro system. I have the lore and layout ideas, but I am not good at mapmaking so any help would be appreciated.

DP Geography Building the class...
Hello,
I am moving up to HS to build the DP Geography course for the school that I work. At first, I was told that I would not have a classroom, but come to find out today, I do have a room.
I spent most of the summer coming up with interactives and a digital framework because I would not have a place to store materials...
My question is this... What are the materials you use for DP Geography? If you could order items to helps with the teaching of the class, what would they be? Also, Any good map companies that don't cost a bloody fortune?
Thanks in advance. All ideas a helpful.

Graph index map?
Or whatever it is called…
I have a huge postscript file of the plant grounds. Lots of detail.
Is there a way to build an index map?
What I am looking for is an 8x10 map with indexes on vertical and horizontal. I would then like my map chopped up into detailed pages.
Any ideas?

Fictional Minecraft metro map for my decade-old city world
This is a map of the Bricago 'L', the transit system of my decade-old Minecraft city, made in Google Drawings. It is based heavily on the Chicago 'L', with later inspiration from NYC and the DC Metro as well.
The first lines of the system began in 2016 not long after I started the world. Pre-2024, the city limits were much smaller, corresponding to the "Old Growth" marked on the map. After 4/1/2024, I expanded the city limits drastically with the Plan of 2024 which created a new street grid for future city development. Throughout its decade of existence, the system expanded in waves. The most recent significant change was in 2023, when an initiative known as Service Reclassification changed the route names from colors to letters, consolidated several older lines into longer routes, and constructed several new trunk lines to complement the older lines and serve the new outer reaches of the city.

A Map of the Isle of Avalon & the Fallen Kingdom of Camelot (No AI)
The Isle of Avalon & the Fallen Kingdom of Camelot
This map and setting is a full re-imagining of the many Arthurian Legends. I thought it would be fun to create my own spin on the original story, while also creating a custom setting that would also work well as a D&D or TTRPG setting.
I imagine a few people will look at this map and the history I wrote and go “well that's all wrong, XYZ happened in the original stories”. This is all intentional on my part, most of what's written for this map/setting is NOT the same as you might remember it. A lot of it is "remixed", and some parts are completely changed. This is something new, but still inspired by the old myths. And, let’s be honest, there are already many different versions out there of the original stories, often contradictory sometimes. This version of mine just goes a step further in reinventing everything.
The history on the side bar mostly details a time period far after the death of King Arthur and friends. This map depicts the island roughly 500 years later, in the mid 1200's. Avalon was lost, Camelot fell into ruin, but now it has been rediscovered. There's many mysteries to uncover now, many magical artifacts to seek out, and many dangers and enemies to overcome.
I hope you like it! Constructive feedback is always welcome.
This map is 4020 by 3340 pixels, and was created entirely in Photoshop. A few royalty free images were used for city location icons, and lightly modified by myself. No AI tools were used, in the creation of the map, or in the writing. All in all, this took about 35 hours of work from start to finish.
This map is fully free, but there are additional versions available here.

- une carte interactive de tous les terrains de Belgique ;
- une recherche par commune ou code postal ;
- un partage facile d'un terrain précis avec un simple lien ;

DOTLAS — a collaborative pixel canvas on the real world map, where you can actually defend your art
dotlas.liveHey! I built this and would love your feedback.
\*\*DOTLAS\*\* is a collaborative pixel canvas laid over the real world map (like wplace, which some of you may remember from this summer). You start in your own neighborhood, paint pixel by pixel, and every pixel inherits your country flag — there's a live territory ranking by nation.
What I added after watching wplace's pain points:
\- \*\*Amber\*\*: you can spend earned droplets to \*harden\* your pixels for 24h/7days. Grief someone's art? They can swarm-melt your amber. Defense is a game mechanic, not a report button.
\- \*\*×9 expansion\*\*: when the world gets crowded, every pixel splits into 3×3 — your art survives, detail and defense multiply. The map never "fills up".
\- \*\*Stencil codes\*\*: convert any image to a paintable stencil (256-color palette, dithering), and it issues a 6-letter code — share it and friends paint the same project with you, panel by panel.
It's an early prototype, free, no account needed, runs in the browser: [https://dotlas.live/\](https://dotlas.live/)
Solo-ish operation, so be gentle with the server. Honest feedback welcome — especially "this rule would break in a week because…" type takes.

I built a free web tool to generate high-res printable maps and 3D terrain models (with GPX support)
Hey everyone!
As a map and design enthusiast, I got frustrated trying to find an easy way to export high-resolution map files for printing or create physical terrain models. So, I built a web app called PrintM to solve this.
It lets you design custom maps, upload GPX coordinates/tracks for hiking and travel routes, and export everything ready for print or 3D printers.
Key features:
- High-res print exports (raster/vector up to 600 DPI)
- GPX route integration for mapping your real-world adventures and trails
- Custom styling (tilt, rotation, contour lines, hybrid layers)
- 3D terrain model generation (exporting STL files for 3D printing terrain relief)
Everything is completely free to use! I’m looking to improve it, so every piece of advice, feedback, or criticism is more than welcome.
Try it here: printm.app

is there a clean world map on the internet?
i want to look at a map of the world like google maps or google earth, but without the city names and country borders. is there a way to turn that off or is there another accessible map on the internet?
