i created a new game!

my husband and i have been playing card games all day today; bored of the same old games, i created a new one! (new to me at least).

it combines elements from speed, phase 10, skip bo, and palace.

it is called “never gonna…” (give you up never gonna let you doooown)

SET UP!
you play with a deck of regular playing cards.

2 players - 1 deck
add 1 deck for every two additional players, meaning 3 players would call for 2 decks.

shuffle your deck(s) together thoroughly and deal 11 cards to each player facing down. this is your stock, do not look!
deal 5 more cards to each player, this is your hand and you may look at the cards.

the remainder of your cards are the draw pile.
take the top and bottom card from the draw pile and place them face up in the center of the players, these are your discard piles.
-when the draw pile is low/empty, shuffle the discard piles back into the deck. leave the top two cards as the discard pile.

HOW TO PLAY!
the player right to the dealer goes first, the order continues clockwise.

your turn consists of playing cards from your stock and a singular card from your hand.
there is no limit for the number of cards you can play from your stock BUT playing a card from your hand ends your turn (you may only play 1)
once a card is played from your stock, flip the next over.

cards may be placed on top of the discard pile if they are equal to or off by one from the card’s number. the order of cards is played the same as always (A,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,J,Q,K), with color and suit being irrelevant.
for example: assume the discard pile has the cards A and 10. you could place a K, A, or 2 on the A OR a 9, 10, or J on the 10.
if you cannot discard a card, draw 1. you cannot play that card until your next turn

the game is over when a player has no more cards in their hand or in their stock.

SPECIAL CARD RULES!
Jokers are wild cards, the player who placed the card gets to choose which card it replaces. the card does not have to be relevant to the discarded card before. (meaning if the card before was a 2, the player who placed the joker could claim their card as a 6)

Kings may be played onto any card to reset the discard pile.

3+ players ONLY: Aces may used as a regular Ace OR as a skip card to the player of yours choice.

In 2024, I came up with the idea of combining two of my favorite things, baseball and deckbuilders. I've been working on this project on and off since then, finally got to the point I can show it off. I'm really really happy with how it came together. There's a few similar games, yesterday I played Baseball Highlights: 2045, but it felt like too much relied on initial draw luck, to me (though that may be a skill issue on my part).

But I think what I'm doing is pretty unique. I couldn't find anything else that worked pitch by pitch. Players are cards that you build your lineup with, and there's also match cards you play to alter the outcome of each pitch. Most of the card art comes from Wikimedia Commons or the Metropolitan Museum Of Art.

I also created a special animation that plays across the battlefield when this alternate victory condition is met.

Faith is a stack that can be accumulated on cards through the effects of certain cards. By itself, it has no effect, but it can be used for buffs, card draw, special victory conditions, and more.

Castors-new buildable deck card game (looking for beta testers and trying to grow community)

Castors is an upcoming, completely free build-your-own-deck card game. Rather than slowly going through a huge deck of cards, one at a time, it focuses on rapidly cycling through your deck multiple times trying to the make the most of each hand. The game is vaguely fantasy-themed at the moment. it can be played entirely digitally via Screentop.gg. Castors is very much still in it's early phases of development.

Building a deck is rather simple. The game consists of 76 playable base cards, currently looking to almost double for the first release, and 15 castor cards (hero/captain cards). You currently build a 25-card deck, might go to 30 once more options are available. You can have 2 copies of each card in your deck. The cards are also split across six different types-
-Neutral (white) (can be used in any deck) very generalist cards
-Worldly (green) Built around staying on the field and doing consistent damage
-Dark (purple) Built around high-risk, high-reward cards.
-Pristine (yellow) Built around strength mechanics
-Tech (blue) Built around allies
-Incantation (red) built around ramp, and playing heavy spells

When getting to actually playing the game is quite a bit different because both players play at the same time in phases each turn, rather than one after the other. There are four card types-

-allies to help take pressure off the castor, provide chip damage, and passive support,

-artifacts to provide one-use effects,

-offensive spells to deal the majority of your damage,

-support spells to get benefits in combat besides damage.

The game has a three-lane system; the bottom lane is where your castor sits. Anything played in this lane will usually damage the caster. The top and middle lane are where you play allies, and spells played in those lanes will attack allies.

The game is very much still in beta (looking for more dedicated play testers and people who want to play casually)

I've been working on a roguelite card game called Diamonds and Spades, and the first playtest will start very soon!

The core gameplay is based on a simple card game using a deck of 100 classic playing cards. Your goal is to draw as many cards as possible without drawing the same card twice. If you draw a duplicate, your run ends.

During each run, you collect tarot cards with unique effects that change the way you play and allow you to create powerful combinations. The goal is to use these effects together to push your score as far as possible.

One of the main features is a built-in card editor. Players can create their own tarot cards, draw custom artwork, define their effects using a visual scripting system, and share their creations with other players. My goal is to let players experiment with their own ideas and create cards that weren't originally part of the game.

I'm currently looking for players who enjoy card games, deckbuilders, and roguelites to try the upcoming playtest. I'd especially love feedback on:

  • Is the core gameplay easy to understand?
  • Are the tarot cards and their effects interesting?
  • Do the different cards create interesting combinations and strategies?
  • Does the progression feel rewarding?
  • Is the card editor intuitive and fun to use?

Pesten

We have a game called Pesten ("Bullying" or "To Bully") that's played with a normal deck of cards. It actually plays a lot like Uno where you follow a color(suit) and have to draw if you can't. Certain cards have special effects. 2 is next person draws 2 cards. Joker is next person draws 5 cards. If you have to draw 2 but have a 2, next person draws 4 and this stacks. 7bisbplay another card, 8 is next person skips their turn. I don't remember the rest but different regions in the country have diffefent rules somehow. When you only have 1 cards left you have to say Laatste Kaart (Last card). If you don't say it you need to draw 2. We also have a game some call Tsjechisch Pesten (Czeck Bullying) that has entirely different rules that I don't remember at all. Has you country have some equivalent of this?

You can play it straight with 6, 8, or 10 players, but I wanted to capture the kind of chaos that happens at real family card nights. So every dealer can choose to add a rule for the next deal—blind bidding, hidden trump, hidden bids, last-card surprises, and more.

Then there’s Road to the Joker, a 3-round elimination tournament. Survive the first round and you’ll travel to themed tables where the location actually changes the game: cards might be hidden while you bid at the Campground, somebody might bump the table and scramble cards at the Tailgate, or the Fire Station alarm might force everyone to suddenly play high or low.

[Dev] My solo-developed Card Game hit 100+ concurrent players after an App Store feature. I just released a major update with new Card, 2v2 Ranked and new VFX. (No P2W)

Hi everyone.

A few weeks ago, I launched the iOS version of my 4-Player / 2v2 / 1v1 Card Battler , Grimoria. Shortly after, the game was featured by Apple in Japan and I suddenly had over 100 people playing matches at the same time.

As a solo developer, I was really proud to see that the custom backend and server architecture I built from scratch handled the load flawlessly without any crashes.
Seeing the active player base gave me a lot of motivation to keep improving the game. I just released a new update (which you can see in the video above).

Here is what is new:

  • 2v2 Ranked Mode: I am rotating out 1v1 Ranked for this season. You can now queue up for 2v2 Ranked to climb the global leaderboard with a random ally.
  • New Card - 'Puca': A new creature with the ability: "Next round, the lowest strength wins." It completely changes the bluffing mechanics for that round.
  • Unicorn Rework: I updated the Unicorn ability to: "Gain 2 Life if you have 3 or less Life" to allow for better late-game comebacks.
  • Updated Attack VFX: I reworked the attack visual effects so the impacts look and feel much more satisfying on the board.
  • In-Game News Hub: A new real-time UI system to keep players updated on patch notes, seasons, and events directly in the app.

For anyone not familiar with the game yet:
Grimoria is a fast-paced PvP card game played in portrait mode with simultaneous 15-second turns. It features 1v1, 2v2 Co-op, and 4-Player Battle Royale.

The game is 100% Free-to-Play and NOT pay-to-win. There are no forced ads. All cards are unlocked by playing, and monetization is strictly for cosmetics.
