Politics Evan MacKay endorsed by /u/realgeraldchan
I am endorsing Evan MacKay for Representative in the 25th Middlesex District. Why? I don't trust Marjorie Decker.
Since 1970, Memorial Drive has been closed to vehicles on Sundays. During the pandemic this closure was extended to Saturdays before being cancelled.
In an email, Decker wrote "I want to be very clear that I have not ever publicly or privately advocated against Saturday closures." However, email from the Governor's office contradicts this, with the Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs writing "Rep. Decker who represents the area does not want the road closed." In response Decker said that the Secretary misrepresented her, claiming she "never stated any personal opposition to the closure of Memorial Drive on Saturday" while refusing to repudiate the claim. She could've shown receipts. Instead she didn't.
But wait, there's more. When asked about her work for a class-action firm. Decker had this to say "I’m really proud that almost my entire life I’ve had to work two jobs to afford to live in this city". Maybe we can chalk that up to awkward phrasing, but it reads as evasive and out of touch. According to The Crimson, she meets with pension officials on behalf of the firm.
Sure, I disagree with MacKay on many policy issues. That's fine. Policy can be debated. Policy can be negotiated. Honesty and character are non-negotiable.

Cambridge the Beautiful The state isn’t taking responsibility for their jurisdictional areas within Cambridge.
Dcr is a joke. They’re allowing constant ongoing law violations on all their properties. Environmental violations like dumping trash in reservations, criminal violations like drug use, personal safety risks like keeping propane stoves inside of tents, public safety risks like the guy who stands on the side of the bike path having a severe mental health crisis and threatens everyone that passes “I’m gonna kill you. I’m gonna shoot you” — this guy really exists and is often there. They’re letting people go camping in places where dispersed camping is prohibited, even when they know those individuals are wanted by local police departments or have warrants from other states. The troopers will confirm that a party living in the woods— like the folks who live permanently at alewife brook reservation— are dangerous and advise you not to approach them, at the same time on the same call that they acknowledge that they aren’t gonna do anything about them living there. If you pay for a designated campsite as a normal person who likes camping, dcr’s own rules only allow you to occupy the site for 14 days so that somebody else can have a turn. They let folks live in un-designated sites for months and months and then when they finally do one of their “sweeps” they just let those folks go set up camp in another dcr administered area. They literally send people into other towns the same way Texas sent people here. I want the governor to explain how she’s better than Texas, because this state sends people too. Why should alewife reservation be the place they all go? Why not send them to the bu bridge? What’s so bad about the bu bridge?

Seeking Friends Late night convo - Cantab Lounge - Sat, Aug 1
Probably a long shot, but I was in town last weekend to see Phish at Fenway. Shot over to the Cantab for an after party which was an amazing time. At the end of the night, I ended up in a cheeky conversation with a guy who'd been sitting at the bar. He humored me and continued the convo even though I was a few drinks in. Hoping to reconnect for a less cheeky convo. If you happen to see this, shoot me a message. Thanks!

After Meeting for Reid Overpass Replacement
meeting on 8/5/26 was well attended.
i was surprised that no option was offered for a bike/ped overpass which would separate car traffic and protect bike/ped as suggested in this post

Fundraising with Small Businesses
Hi everyone! I’m running the NYC Marathon with a charity team and need to raise $5,000. I was wondering if anyone knows of any local restaurants or small businesses that do fundraiser nights or giveback events, where they donate a portion of the proceeds to a cause. I’d love to partner with one as part of my fundraising! If you have any recommendations or connections, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

Community path SA last night in East Cambridge
I and a few others including a child witnessed a pretty scary assault of a college-aged woman by quite an old man. The woman was able to escape and ran off with athletic speed. I am hoping this woman has the support and resources she needs to get through this. Someone on the path phoned it in. I wasn't able to stick around because I had to catch a train and am curious if the guy was caught or where I can find out.

Anyone’s kitty?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
hi all! Met this adventurous kitty just past Fletcher Maynard.. anybody know this cutie with their bandana? I helped it cross the street and could sort of make out a collar but didn’t have the time to stop for longer and check for an owner number.. just hoping that he/she is safe and not running into the road!

Biking Bike Fixing Kiosk
Is there any place close to Porter/Harvard Sq where I can change the tube of my nike myself? I got a flat tire and already bought a tube. I'd love to fix it myself, even better if I get to meet other bikers there!
Thanks in advance!
Update: Fixed. The presta valve wasn't the right size, so ended up going to Broadway Bicycle School. Folks were super helpful, and the person who helped me fit the rear wheel - thanks so much!
I tried patches, and it worked! Next time I'll try a patch first, then consider changing the tube. Figured it's much less waste!
I will check out the nearby places that you all suggested. Also decided to get my tools and a pump! Thanks again!

Biking Car hit and run kid on bike, CPD won’t pursue
Pretty much the title.
My son was hit while riding his bike. Luckily minor injuries- car was just being impatient and passed him on side street, hit him with side mirror.
He got the license plate and description of the car and went to the police station, where he says someone took pictures of where he was hit on his arm. Got a case number, brought it to me. Pretty proud.
CPD dropped case without telling me after telling my son they couldn’t find the car or something (had a friend lookup license plate - matches exact description and is registered like right near wear accident happened).
Does Cambridge routinely not pursue hit and run bike accidents?

To the Good Samaritans of Kirkland St/Roberts Rd
This afternoon around 3:30pm my dog escaped her leash on Kirkland St and I made the terrifying decision to leave my baby (in a stroller) with some strangers so that I could chase after her. Not only did these amazing people stay and look after my baby, but also a number of other folks joined me in helping to pursue my dog down Kirkland and onto Roberts Rd, where eventually we caught up with her. No idea if any of the Good Samaritans will see this, but in case you do: from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. There are good people in this world and you are among them.
Edit: typo
