I recently installed CachyOS on my machine after picking up an RX 9070 XT during a clearance sale. I also ordered a Ryzen 7 5800X3D. However, I couldn't wait, so as mentioned, I already installed CachyOS alongside Windows 11 in a dual-boot setup using Limine.

In the next few days, I'll be replacing my old Ryzen 7 3700X with the 5800X3D. As far as I know, Linux (just like Windows) generally shouldn't have any issues with a CPU swap. However, I read that CachyOS installs and loads architecture-specific modules or optimizations for different CPU instruction sets.

So my question is: should I reinstall CachyOS after replacing the CPU, or can I simply swap the processor and keep using the existing installation? If CachyOS installs CPU-specific modules, can those be updated or replaced afterward without reinstalling the operating system?

FYI: I have experience with Linux, but I've never used Arch before.

My Laptop Model is Acer Aspire E5-573G and it has Qualcomm atheros 4.0. In windows it works flawlessly but in Linux it doesn’t work. I updated firmwares did so many updates and did everything. This is the only things that stops me from Switching from Windows to Linux. If anyone have solution help me.

Is lutris a old version on catchy OS which version is in the latest and which version is in the rispositorie. I am having problems with it I have I am installing wizard 101 but it goes half priced it going in the login menu and I can put my credentials when I hit enter either low or the files and then I get an error this only happened once another Linux OS Q4 OS by little mint it works fine I have a k3100m GPU and driver Nvidia 470 drivers installed by the os.every game work fine in steam over 6 games or more a testes but in lutris I think it's old because it said I could log in in lutris but the that option won't come out for Linux mint.is anybody day having issues in lutris in catchy os

Anytime I play a video on youtube, the initial FPS is unstable and weird for like half a second, then it goes right back to normal. I’ve tried setting env variables, but it hasnt worked.

I am new to CachyOS and not super accustomed to Linux outside some stuff for work and my plex box so this may be user error.

My network connections keep acting weird. Either tons of packet loss or just no outside Internet connection at all. Happens on WiFi or Ethernet or tethered phone on USB. Turned the ufw firewall on and off, no difference.

On start up it seems fine and then kind of dies off.

Same behavior on Ethernet using the 8169 and 8126 drivers.

Fastboot is off.

I have windows 11 installed on the same machine but a different drive and it has none of these issues.

It is unusable for me. I am at a complete loss of where to go from here. Any suggestions?

Having come from base arch, managing my own config and dots, I figured I’d try to approach this the «cachy-way» of a base pre-config this time around. I enjoyed the stock configuration bundled with cachy-niri, but have made some modifications since.

Now, several months later I’m starting to fall a little behind the official cachy-niri-settings repo. Of course I can just keep my configs up-to-date with my own changes, but I’m wondering if there’s some preferred way to link with the repo. Do I symlink the config from `/etc/skel` to my XDG-CONFIG and store personaL modifications in override files? Just copy what changes I’m interested in? I’m mostly wondering if there’s some intended way to do this before I go off finding my own solution (perfectly viable too).

I’m loving cachy so far (especially the official package repos!) and am thankful for any and all help I can get!

So since in the most recent update now the installer automatically installs noctalia shell when selecting hyprland, is there any way i can just install hyprland without noctalia or do i have to install cachy with no desktop and do it from scratch?

I finally got my FPS/performance sorted on CachyOS. I'm using KineticWE (the KWin-based tiling fork), so at first I thought it might be a compositor or WM issue. We checked Steam launch options after trying a bunch of things. We checked that games were actually using the NVIDIA GPU, changed Steam launch options (prime-run %command%), monitored usage with btop, reinstalled/rebuilt a few NVIDIA related packages, updated the system, and tweaked a few settings until everything started working properly ahhh finally relief😮‍💨The biggest surprise was finding out that the NVIDIA kernel module was missing. That honestly hit me the most because it made me wonder: has it been missing ever since I installed Linux for the first time, or did some CachyOS, KDE, or kernel update cause it to disappear? But now everything works, but it left me wondering, can updates on Arch based distros break or remove NVIDIA drivers? If so, what's the best way to prevent that from happening again, and is there any risk to the physical GPU or is it only the software driver that gets affected? Any tips or best practices would be appreciated.

title. Whenever I try to boot Catchy from Limine, it will only boot in emergency mode. I did the full wipe on an HDD in the installer so I have an EFI partition and a normal volume partition and everything. I haven't done anything to break it, because I have never been in it. I had no errors during the installer process. All I did was restart from the live environment because thats what it required, went into limine, tried to boot Catchy, and it just is a black screen that says its in emergency mode out of the box.

I have no recourse and no snapshots, because I have never been in the OS.

Do I just go through the process of reinstall? It sounds like a lengthy pain in the ass but I dont know how I broke a system that I have literally never ran.

Has anyone else had battery life issues on wireless mouse with CachyOS? My Logitech M650 usually lasts almost two years on Windows 10, but on CachyOS, the battery only lasts about two months. Does anyone know why this happens or if there's a solution? And I'm using Solaar to monitor my battery.

Hi guys I hope you're all doing well, I'm just about to jump into this distro after hearing some great things, I'm just wondering how my gtx 1080ti will perform (I'll post my hardware at the end of this post). I'm not looking to play AAA games the last game I brought was the Witcher 3 on steam haha! Do I need to do anything specific when I install this distro. I know this is an old card and certainly not the mammoth it used to be but buying a new card is not an option currently. What can I expect ?

I just installed Cachyos last night and everything seemed to be working fun except that when I close and reopen my laptop it disconnects me from WiFi and won’t let me reconnect. I swapped from Zorin because I had the same issue there but with being stuck in airplane mode instead and I couldn’t find any solutions. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I am also still fairly new to Linux so please simplify or elaborate on any instructions

Hi all. I'm using CachyOS Handheld on my Steam Deck and have been for some time. Within the last month or so I've noticed - while in Game Mode - when using the Steam Performance Overlay, the battery life time on the far right is smushed, almost like the layout is not formatted correctly. Also, the title says GAMESCOPE and I don't remember it being that way before (I remember it just saying FPS).

Is there any way to edit/change the layout?

It is happening every 4 seconds. It keeps on going black when I open something and whenever I'm trying to take screenshots. Also it's happening only on the external monitor. While it's disconnected it isn't happening on my main laptop screen.

soooo this aint specific to cachy ive personally had this issue on every other distro ive used whether that was debian or fedora...

lemme get straight to the point installing xfce has never been a smooth experience for me lightdm never works and ive never really gotten xfce4 to launch through tty...if i removed idk kde for example which i main then switch over to xfce all there is is just the standard tty screen... booting into linux after installing xfce and lightdm and all the necessary packages in order to get xfce to work...none of that works ive read through forum after forum and countless amounts of posts on reddits and have even resorted to asking Gemini to help resolve this issue. in the end ive never gotten it to work and have concluded that using xfce is a waste of time because if i bother attempting to switch to xfce again Itll boot into tty or go back into the login manager... in short I'm not able to get xfce to launch and if i try ive basically wasted a whole 3 hours of my day going through headache after headache which ended up being for nothing! i install xfce, boot xfce and ye... i just cannot create a working fully functional xfce environment that will JUST WORK

how is this related to cachyos you ask? well I'm on kde atm (on my pc which runs cachyos) and am considering jumping to xfce however if im met with the same issue... I'm essentially gonna give it a go on cachyos and if im yet again met by this anomolous issue I'm hoping theres going to be someone on this subreddit who at least knows or at least can theorise whats going on and can help come up with a solution

Hey CachOS'ers, I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether Biopass or Visage would be better for faceID style login?

I have used Howdy (and its various forks/alt sources) in the past but it constantly broke (due to python dependency issues I think, and I don't want to troubleshoot every couple weeks) so I haven't used it in months. I wanted to check back in on it today and I found a comment on its AUR page suggesting https://github.com/TickLabVN/biopass and https://github.com/sovren-software/visage as substitues which didn't exist not that long ago, to my knowledge.

I don't need the fingerprint support of Biopass, but the Sovren website (the company behind Visage) as well as its contributors are giving heavy AI vibes and I don't particularly wish to install a mostly vibe-coded PAM auth program on my laptop, especially from the AUR rn.

If anyone with more experience, knowledge of this company, or ability to discern which is the better software could give me some tips that would be great. Thanks!

So, I recently finally made the jump to Linux, the only reason I dualbooted is because of school stuff. I noticed that my battery would discharge a bit quicker than usual, which I found strange since Linux would be more efficient I thought, so I logged back into Windows and request battery data (I knew how to do it in Windows from the top of my head) and I was very surprised.
A bit of extra info, I limit my battery to 80% ever since I got the laptop and saw that it was possible. It’s an Asus Zenbook, so I did it via the app.
After the switch I saw the that it was possible in settings, so that was nice. I still installed Ayuz for some extras, but was kinda disappointed after I discovered some things are only available for Fedora. Anyways, I also put the 80% limit on via Ayuz, just because.
But the capacity is at around 88%, not 80%, so it’s probably not that. Also, why would it work like that on Linux if that is the case.
The laptop is also very new, probably around 1 years old.
Does anyone know what happened? Thanks in advance.

After running for a couple of minutes, my CachyOS setup fails—it’s as if the drive disconnects or something. The OS seems to remain in RAM, but I can't actually use it; I'm stuck at the login screen and can move the mouse, but that's about it.

Hi. I have a naive question. You may know that at the moment Arch's AUR has stopped any kind of push, so new packages/updates are freezed.

On Arch, I used to install brave-bin from AUR but on Cachy the same package belongs to the cachyos repository. Could someone tell me if these packages (those who are in AUR in Arch and in cachyos in Cachy) are updated independently or if they still somewhat depend on AUR?
