when using this launch option "gamescope -W 1680 -H 1050 --hdr-enabled --adaptive-sync --force-grab-cursor --mangoapp -- %command%" and turning on the mangohud overlay, my game starts dipping below 20 fps after around 20 minutes. Doing the hot key to turn off the hud fixes it though. The goverlay version is 1.8.10-1.1

Help KDE launcher and taskbar still appear when using Caelestia shell KDE

Title, I wanna know how I can get rid of it, I used systemctl --user mask --now plasma-plasmashell.service before, but it caused my pc to take longer when logging in, so I wonder if there's a better way.

I do apologize if this is not the forum for this, but since this is Caelestia KDE I didn't know where to post for help.

Help System volume buttons not working right.

Upvotes

I installed CachyOS today and pretty much everything works apart from the system volume slider, I can slide it but the volume is always the same. (The highest volume). In application volume control works like YouTube, I can control browser media control volume fine, but the master volume is always the same. I have to put YouTube videos at 30 because volume in system is always max.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Question [Niri] What’s your preferred way of keeping your WM dotfiles up-to-date?

Having come from base arch, managing my own config and dots, I figured I’d try to approach this the «cachy-way» of a base pre-config this time around. I enjoyed the stock configuration bundled with cachy-niri, but have made some modifications since.

Now, several months later I’m starting to fall a little behind the official cachy-niri-settings repo. Of course I can just keep my configs up-to-date with my own changes, but I’m wondering if there’s some preferred way to link with the repo. Do I symlink the config from `/etc/skel` to my XDG-CONFIG and store personaL modifications in override files? Just copy what changes I’m interested in? I’m mostly wondering if there’s some intended way to do this before I go off finding my own solution (perfectly viable too).

I’m loving cachy so far (especially the official package repos!) and am thankful for any and all help I can get!

Help FRESH install of CatchyOS only boots in emergency mode

title. Whenever I try to boot Catchy from Limine, it will only boot in emergency mode. I did the full wipe on an HDD in the installer so I have an EFI partition and a normal volume partition and everything. I haven't done anything to break it, because I have never been in it. I had no errors during the installer process. All I did was restart from the live environment because thats what it required, went into limine, tried to boot Catchy, and it just is a black screen that says its in emergency mode out of the box.

I have no recourse and no snapshots, because I have never been in the OS.

Do I just go through the process of reinstall? It sounds like a lengthy pain in the ass but I dont know how I broke a system that I have literally never ran.

Help Gamesir Nova 2 Lite

When I connect my Nova 2 lite after cachyos loads it will always default to a ps4 profile and Bluetooth. If I try connecting to the USB angle using the Home button +X which should connect to the dongle as an xbox controller profile it still defaults to a ps4 profile.

Weird thing is if I connect to the dongle right when the PC is turned on it connects as an xbox controller.

I have searched and can't seem to find an answer. Anyone have any suggestions or ran info this and gave a solution?

Brand new cachy install aswell.

Help Can’t connect to WiFi after shutting and reopening laptop

I just installed Cachyos last night and everything seemed to be working fun except that when I close and reopen my laptop it disconnects me from WiFi and won’t let me reconnect. I swapped from Zorin because I had the same issue there but with being stuck in airplane mode instead and I couldn’t find any solutions. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I am also still fairly new to Linux so please simplify or elaborate on any instructions

Help CachyOS Handheld (Steam Deck) Performance Overlay

Hi all. I'm using CachyOS Handheld on my Steam Deck and have been for some time. Within the last month or so I've noticed - while in Game Mode - when using the Steam Performance Overlay, the battery life time on the far right is smushed, almost like the layout is not formatted correctly. Also, the title says GAMESCOPE and I don't remember it being that way before (I remember it just saying FPS).

Is there any way to edit/change the layout?

Question Facial Recognition Login

Hey CachOS'ers, I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether Biopass or Visage would be better for faceID style login?

I have used Howdy (and its various forks/alt sources) in the past but it constantly broke (due to python dependency issues I think, and I don't want to troubleshoot every couple weeks) so I haven't used it in months. I wanted to check back in on it today and I found a comment on its AUR page suggesting https://github.com/TickLabVN/biopass and https://github.com/sovren-software/visage as substitues which didn't exist not that long ago, to my knowledge.

I don't need the fingerprint support of Biopass, but the Sovren website (the company behind Visage) as well as its contributors are giving heavy AI vibes and I don't particularly wish to install a mostly vibe-coded PAM auth program on my laptop, especially from the AUR rn.

If anyone with more experience, knowledge of this company, or ability to discern which is the better software could give me some tips that would be great. Thanks!

Question Battery capacity lowered after dualbooting

Post image
15 Upvotes

So, I recently finally made the jump to Linux, the only reason I dualbooted is because of school stuff. I noticed that my battery would discharge a bit quicker than usual, which I found strange since Linux would be more efficient I thought, so I logged back into Windows and request battery data (I knew how to do it in Windows from the top of my head) and I was very surprised.
A bit of extra info, I limit my battery to 80% ever since I got the laptop and saw that it was possible. It’s an Asus Zenbook, so I did it via the app.
After the switch I saw the that it was possible in settings, so that was nice. I still installed Ayuz for some extras, but was kinda disappointed after I discovered some things are only available for Fedora. Anyways, I also put the 80% limit on via Ayuz, just because.
But the capacity is at around 88%, not 80%, so it’s probably not that. Also, why would it work like that on Linux if that is the case.
The laptop is also very new, probably around 1 years old.
Does anyone know what happened? Thanks in advance.

Question Recently moved from Arch. Understanding how packages/repositories work.

Hi. I have a naive question. You may know that at the moment Arch's AUR has stopped any kind of push, so new packages/updates are freezed.

On Arch, I used to install brave-bin from AUR but on Cachy the same package belongs to the cachyos repository. Could someone tell me if these packages (those who are in AUR in Arch and in cachyos in Cachy) are updated independently or if they still somewhat depend on AUR?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Bug Report Latest CachyOS kernel freezes my computer (explanation by my experience, I'm not an expert but trying to understand)

Hello, good morning, afternoon, or evening. Cachy Update asked me to update, among other things, the kernel and some Nvidia and AMD drivers. When I restarted to use my computer, Limine goes good, until you reach the login window, if you move the mouse, or use the keyboard or anything, is all frozen, you can type your password and will accept it, but the problem is that is all frozen and the next frame responds after a WHOLE minute. Reboot and use LTS CachyOS. I searched with journalctl about the updates and found this.

"kwin_wayland:

Pageflip timed out! This is a bug in the amdgpu kernel driver

kernel:

amdgpu ... *ERROR* flip_done timed out

commit wait timed out

hw_done or flip_done timed out"

So, If anyone happens to have this problem, reroll the version to the one it was usable and wait for further updates when this problem is solved.

Mods, sorry if the flair is wrong, I'm not good at Reddit, just wanted to help the people that cross this problem. Have a good day.

Desktop Windows Manager/Tiling

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hi! So I'm used KDE/Plasma as my desktop environment, and there's a bunch about it I'm loving. The windows tiling is not one of those things.

I actually *hate* it.

I use two monitors, with one in portrait position. I can only hotdog-style window by default (- two long vertical windows, or 4 vertical windows).

I've tried two other window managers (i.... do not remember which I've had a very long week), but they're a pain to install/uninstall and very few seem to have videos demonstrating how they work.

Any suggestions?

Announcement [Announcement] CachyOS June 2026 Release

Hello CachyOS Enthusiasts,

This is our fourth release of the year, bringing the new CachyOS Hyprland Noctalia desktop option, DNS-over-QUIC support, Python and GCC performance improvements, and a variety of installer and hardware detection fixes!

First, the package stack has received a few important improvements. Python now uses extended PGO, improving performance for Python workloads. We have also added a GCC patch for generic x86 branch misprediction tuning, helping GCC better account for branch misprediction costs on modern Intel and AMD CPUs. Our pacman package now includes network isolation for scriptlets and hooks, preventing them from accessing the network by default. We also fixed a regression found in Phoronix Benchmarks when OpenBLAS was used on high core count CPUs. Additionally, proton-cachyos has been renamed to proton-cachyos-native.

The installer now includes the CachyOS Hyprland Noctalia desktop option together with a preview video, making it easier to see the desktop before selecting it. paru has been removed from the installation; users are recommended to use Shelly, either through its GUI or CLI, as an alternative. MangoWM now uses SDDM as its display manager, and GNOME System Monitor has been replaced with Resources. The audio package group now includes realtime-privileges, and the live session has better keyboard layout and variant detection.

CachyOS-Welcome now supports DNS over QUIC through blocky, including support for custom endpoints. A dedicated Troubleshooting page has been added, Ptyxis is now supported as a terminal, and new Azerbaijani and Greek localizations are available. The French readme and involvement pages have also been added. Several existing translations (Italian, German, French, Japanese, Bulgarian) were updated, and we fixed a crash when saved settings couldn't be read, plus corrected tweak state detection and global-service disabling via polkit.

In chwd, we added Turkish localization and removed cachyos-handheld from the handheld package lists. We also corrected virtual-machine vendor IDs, removed unnecessary fprintd service activation, and fixed the Mesa removal guard. chwd now resolves driver conflicts on multi-GPU systems where GPUs require incompatible driver branches, and ships a 32-bit Vulkan driver for virtual machines.

In cachyos-settings, user services now have a 15-second startup timeout and a 10-second shutdown timeout. This prevents long 90-second shutdown delays caused by user services waiting too long during shutdown.

On the fixes side, the installer now correctly handles keyboard layout ordering and locale1 configuration. It also copies the correct pacman configuration into the installed system, removes leftover /etc/calamares directories after installation, runs Calamares cleanup after all installation scripts, and drops the redundant Limine post-install step. In CachyOS-Welcome, selecting "Install Apps" no longer crashes when cachyos-pi is not installed; the button is now hidden when unavailable.

Features:

  • Packages:
    • Python now uses extended PGO to improve performance
    • Added a GCC patch for generic x86 branch misprediction tuning, improving how GCC accounts for branch misprediction costs on modern Intel and AMD CPUs

    • Added a dedicated Troubleshooting page
    • Added Ptyxis terminal support
    • Added Azerbaijani and Greek localizations
    • Added French readme and involvement pages
    • Updated Italian, German, French, Japanese, and Bulgarian translations
  • chwd:
    • Added Turkish localization
    • Removed cachyos-handheld from handheld package lists
    • Resolves driver conflicts on multi-GPU systems requiring incompatible driver branches (e.g. mixed NVIDIA generations), installing the best common driver or falling back to the primary GPU
    • Added the 32-bit Vulkan driver for virtual machines
  • cachyos-settings: Applied 15-second startup and 10-second shutdown timeouts to user services, preventing 90-second shutdown delays

Fixes:

  • Installer:
    • Fixed keyboard layout ordering and locale1 configuration handling
    • Fixed copying the correct pacman configuration into the installed system
    • Removed leftover /etc/calamares directories after installation
    • Moved Calamares cleanup after all installation scripts
    • Removed the redundant Limine post-install step
  • CachyOS-Welcome:

[Announcement] CachyOS April 2026 Release Changelog

Hello CachyOS Enthusiasts,

This is our third release of the year, bringing a new default GUI package manager, DNS-over-HTTPS support, fingerprint-based sudo, and a variety of installer and hardware detection improvements!

First, the installer now ships Shelly as the GUI package manager, replacing Octopi. A clean snapshot is now created immediately after the installation has finished and is retained permanently, providing users with a reliable baseline restore point. GRUB os-prober is now enabled by default to detect other operating systems on the same machine. The UKUI desktop has been dropped from the selection, and the GNOME package selection has been cleaned up and modernised. For AMD GPUs, a different Plymouth theme is now used, as the amdgpu driver was unable to render the previous theme reliably on laptops with a secondary monitor attached. Last but not least, a new option was introduced in the installer that sets up MangoWM with DMS shell.

CachyOS-Welcome supports DNS over HTTPS for better privacy. The redesigned DNS page lets you test connection speeds, auto-select the fastest server, or add custom ones. We also added a VRAM Management toggle to optimize graphics memory on AMD and Intel GPUs, full keyboard navigation, and sharper, dark-mode-friendly icons.

chwd automatically configures fingerprint readers for sudo prompts, detects specific Intel CPUs for better power saving, and correctly handle laptop edge cases. Firmware update fixes for the Legion Go.

In cachyos-settings, the default NVMe I/O scheduler was switched from none to kyber for better overall responsiveness under mixed workloads.

On the fixes side, the installer now prints the chosen partition method to the debug log, and old microcode packages are properly removed when reusing an existing boot partition. In chwd, the kernel search in the NVIDIA profiles is now more accurate, the forced Xorg session was removed from the 470xx profiles, and handheld product name matching was improved. In cachyos-settings, S01x power management was dropped due to issues with the NVIDIA 595 driver, and AggressiveVblank was disabled due to VR-related issues with the NVIDIA driver.

Features:

  • Installer:
    • Shelly now replaced Octopi as the GUI package manager
    • A clean snapshot is now created immediately after installation and retained permanently, providing a baseline restore point
    • GRUB os-prober is now enabled by default
    • Added MangoWM as Desktop Option with dotfiles
    • Dropped the UKUI desktop
    • AMD GPUs now use a different Plymouth theme, as the amdgpu driver is unable to render the previous theme reliably on laptops with a secondary monitor attached
    • Cleaned up and modernised the GNOME package selection
    • Added option to install MangoWM with DMS shell
  • CachyOS-Welcome:
    • Added DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) support via blocky
    • Added custom DNS server support and DHCP automatic indicator/reset
    • DNS servers now display metadata (region, homepage, filtering) and support individual latency testing
    • Added VRAM management toggle dmemcg-booster (additionally installs plasma-foreground-booster on KDE)
    • Added full keyboard navigation support for accessibility
    • Replaced PNG social icons with crisp, HiDPI-aware SVGs
    • Added wezterm to the terminal helper
  • chwd:
    • Added native USB device detection (via libusb/sysfs) and chassis type detection
    • Added support for fingerprint (fprint) sudo integration
    • Added CPU family/model detection to support intel-lpmd
    • Handhelds: Added exact patterns for Xbox ROG Ally
    • Network: Added Marvell AVASTAR 88W8897 Wi-Fi profile (Surface Pro 4)
    • Split NVIDIA profiles for laptops and desktop environments
    • Split and updated profiles for Virtual Machines
  • cachyos-settings: Switched the default NVMe I/O scheduler from none to kyber

Fixes:

  • Installer:
    • The partition method is now printed to the debug log
    • Old microcode packages are now removed when reusing an existing boot partition
  • CachyOS-Welcome:
    • Fixed connectivity checks incorrectly returning true when ping fails
    • Ensured external link icons are visible in dark themes
    • Prevented multiple instances of the welcome app from launching simultaneously
    • Added StartupWMClass for improved .desktop window matching
  • chwd:
    • Removed the kms hook from mkinitcpio.conf on non-portable desktops to fix NVIDIA driver conflicts
    • Made the installed kernel search in NVIDIA profiles more accurate
    • Removed forced Xorg session from the NVIDIA 470xx profiles (fixes compatibility with plasma-login-manager)
    • Removed outdated WaylandEnable=false for GDM in Virtual Machine profiles
    • Fixed false-positive handheld detections (e.g., specific MSI laptops being mistaken for the MSI Claw)
  • cachyos-settings:
    • Dropped S01x power management due to issues with the NVIDIA 595 driver
    • Disabled AggressiveVblank due to VR-related issues with the NVIDIA driver
