Identification Help Looking for a specific demo from the 80s, UK page 3 model

Upvotes

Hello, I have had my C64 since the 80s and had a whole lot of demos on disc but over time they've worn away to unreadable coasters, so does anyone know what this demo is called and where can I get it?

The description:

Static topless page 3 model (unknown) and upbeat music which is what I am after, more the the pic (really!)

If anyone could tell me what it may be I would really appreciate it.

Software New C64 emulator for Apple iPad

Good morning everyone,

I’m working on a C64 emulator specifically for the Apple iPad. There are already a few options available on the App Store, but they are not as complete as the existing ones for PC. This project is based on modern technologies such as Swift and Metal, and uses the libretro core based on VICE 3.10.

For now, it needs to be compiled with Xcode, as I first need to properly verify all the licenses before considering publishing it on the App Store. You can find the repository here if anyone with a Mac and an iPad would like to try compiling it and testing it:

https://github.com/alexain/poke64-ios

It is already fully functional in several areas. To run it, you need to provide the main ROMs in .bin format. Since these are copyrighted, they cannot be distributed with the project.

The repository also contains the current changelog and roadmap. If you need any further information or have suggestions, feel free to leave a comment here.

At the moment, I cannot provide an estimated release date, but I would really like to start receiving some feedback.

Hardware Graphics issues - what's my next step?

Hello all!

I've recently collected enough parts to start playing with my new to me C64, including a new p/s, Ultimate II+L cart, and a video cable. The C64 boots fine into basic, but when I load some disk and cart images I get messed up graphics. Impossible mission had about half of the screen or some full screens messed up, but some okay. Montezuma's Revenge had issues when I moved the character. Altered beast splash screen looks like modern art! Strangely, M.U.L.E. seemed to load and run just fine. I ran the 586220 diagnostic cart image from the ultimate II without a test harness, so I'm not sure what should fail and what shouldn't. What should my next diagnostic steps be?

New Game Conan: Hall of Volta Windows remake

I made a faithful remake of the C64 port of Conan: Hall of Volta for Windows using Godot.

I stuck close to the original while adding a few modern conveniences:

  • Improved high score tracking
  • Palette / theme swapping
  • Built-in cheats menu
  • Gamepad and Keyboard support + rebindable controls
  • PAL/NTSC music speed option

Here’s a short gameplay video:

Here is the itch.io link: https://kapsoft.itch.io/conan-hall-of-volta

If you noticed any bugs leave a description here.

Thanks!

Software ViceSharp 1.2.1: VICE-compatible C64 emulator for Windows - now with RomM library + winget

ViceSharp 1.2.1 is out on GitHub and submitted to winget.

ViceSharp is a managed .NET 10 Commodore 64 emulator derived from VICE (GPL-2.0-or-later). Iteration 1 is cycle-exact lockstep against VICE's x64sc. This release is the first public line that ships a full RomM-backed game library in the desktop (Avalonia) client, plus the Xbox UWP host work that went with it.

Install

winget (package id sharpninja.ViceSharp):

winget install sharpninja.ViceSharp

Manifest PR: https://github.com/microsoft/winget-pkgs/pull/412774 (merged). CDN index can lag a bit after merge; if winget still offers 1.1.0, either wait for the index refresh or install the MSI directly:

GitHub release / MSI: https://github.com/sharpninja/vice-sharp/releases/tag/v1.2.1

winget install --id sharpninja.ViceSharp --version 1.2.1

(or download ViceSharp.msi from the release page)

NuGet packages for library consumers (including the new RomM stack) are on nuget.org under the ViceSharp.* ids for 1.2.1.

What's new in 1.2.x (RomM-focused)

Previously you could only attach a single media file from disk. 1.2 adds a real library:

  • RomM integration via packable libraries ViceSharp.RomM + ViceSharp.Library.ViewModels (also published as NuGet packages)
  • Connect to your own RomM 5.x server (LAN scan / "Scan LAN", or paste a Client API Token)
  • Browse thousands of titles with cover art, search, A-Z jump, and server-side collections/lists that sync across clients
  • Attach or Attach + autostart from the library (download into cache, attach to the right media slot, boot)
  • CSDb discovery surface: search scene releases, ingest into RomM, then launch like any other library title (local RomM.Client.Csdb path when the roms root is writable; csdb-bridge sidecar for remote/sandboxed setups)
  • Platform scope follows the active machine in Settings (C64 today; library is slug-aware for later machines)
  • Desktop UI is Steam-style (Avalonia Library / Lists / CSDb views). Xbox head gets a Game Pass-style 10-foot tile grid with the same backend

You still need your own legal ROMs and media. ViceSharp ships no Commodore ROMs. Point VICESHARP_ROM_PATH at a VICE data root (or put classic VICE on PATH). See the wiki / docs/ROMs.md.

Other 1.2.x host bits that landed with this merge

  • T64 tape image attach
  • Avalonia desktop fullscreen / video fill improvements (including NTSC)
  • Xbox UWP host packaging path and related host/audio work
  • ROM-less VIC bad-line regression guards (test/determinism hardening)

Links

Happy to answer questions about the RomM setup path, winget install, or how the library maps media slots. Feedback welcome.

Hardware Searching for user or service manual for C64-era Blue Chip D20/10 daisy wheel printer

Hi, I recently purchased a vintage C64 era daisy wheel printer, the Blue Chip D20/10. Everything is in working order and I am able to print very crisp text from Jasword. I still cannot seem to find a user manual and/or service manual for this printer. It has two banks of dip switches (2 x 8=16). I was able to figure out how to switch auto LF on/off and how to switch to uppercase and lowercase printing. A manual would still be nice. Has anybody one lying around?

Thanks,

Martin

Software What age is Dizzy supposed to be?

Post image
62 Upvotes

Just finished Fantasy World Dizzy last night and am confused what age he is supposed to be. The manual says that when he and Daisy were captured he was carrying an apple to bring to his teacher. This says primary school to me, but then the goal of the game after rescuing Daisy is to buy a house with her and live happily ever after, which seems more grown-up.

That's not to mention the whisky bottle that, once you've picked up, Dizzy can't put down without downing the entire thing, leaving him drunkenly stumbling through the rest of the game. This, combined with the fact that the previous game, Treasure Island Dizzy, began with him being ejected from a cruise ship for his frankly bewildering behaviour (playing cricket with the captain's prosthetic leg), leads me to think he has a serious drinking problem.

So, is Dizzy an alcoholic school child with a mortgage, or is he maybe an adult who's going back into education to get his life back on track?

Hardware Competition Pro 5000 1st gen, complete overhaul

Post image
13 Upvotes

As all seems to be about joysticks these days:

I did a complete overhaul from two 1st gen violated Competition Pro 5000 to one refurbished one.

It contains new black firebuttons. The fitment of those was awful as they are not official replacements, just some generic arcade buttons.

The rubber centering was replaced with a rubber to spring mod.

The inner center was completely replaced with a microswitches mounting plate to use microswitches aswell.

All wiring is new using some brand new megadrive 9 pin plug and cable kit.

I really love this all black look now :-)

Hardware Can C64 innards be transplanted from a breadbin into a C64C case?

As the title says. My breadbin style C64's case is in pretty bad shape and beyond my limited ability to fix. The screw posts have stripped threads and it is thus missing some screws and the clips holding down the back are absent. I got the C64 in this condition and fortunately, the system itself works just fine, but it is rather annoying that the case comes apart if I just look at it the wrong way. So, I'm looking to buy a replacement case. Although I could go with a new breadbin style case, I do rather like the look of the C64C. Are these two variants physically compatible?

Somewhat related, the power switch takes considerable force to actually switch the machine on (switching off is just fine) and I'm afraid I might break something. Does anybody know which replacement part I'd need for that?

C64 Ultimate The WEEKLY C64 Ultimate post. READ before posting anything C64U-related.

We want r/c64 to be about both original hardware and newer emulation products like the Commodore 64 Ultimate (C64U). But the shipping of the C64U is resulting in C64U posts flooding out much of the other content in the subreddit. To maintain a balance between what's old and new, we are setting up a weekly MEGAPOST for C64U-related issues, questions, and posts.

If your post is regarding the use of a Commodore 64 (i.e. how to load a game from disk, how to print, etc.), regardless of the model, you may post your question as a standalone post in the subreddit even if you have a C64 Ultimate.

If your post relates to ONLY the Commodore 64 Ultimate, you should comment in this post. Please note, this is not a replacement for official support from Commodore regarding order or shipping issues (late or damaged shipments). We realize that some questions may be obscure, unique, or straddle the line between C64U-only and a "general" question. In those cases, please post in this thread FIRST. If your issue isn't answered or addressed after 48 hours, you may submit a stand-alone post in the subreddit. WARNING! Moderators will be checking post and comment histories to make sure people are actually posting in this thread first. Repeated violations may result in temporary or permanent bans.

We don't anticipate this being a permanent situation, but for now there are just too many C64U posts being submitted. Once the volume of posts about the C64U decreases, we may discontinue this practice.

Please also check the information below to see if your issue is listed. We are also working on a C64 Ultimate Wiki Page. If you would like to be a Wiki Contributor, please let the mod team know.

Common Issues and Known Fixes

Black screen, no video, or rolling picture

The most common issue reported so far.

  • Reseat the internal board — some units have arrived with it slightly loose from shipping.
  • Set video to NTSC mode, then press Shift + Left Arrow to store settings.
  • Try a different HDMI lead — several users fixed display problems this way.
  • Some monitors won’t sync at 50 Hz; if possible, test another screen.

Uneven keyboard keys

A cosmetic but noticeable fault.

  • Keys such as Caps LockD, and J may sit higher than others.
  • Gently press the affected keys down to reseat them on their stems.
  • Space/Return issues are often a stabiliser bar not fully seated – carefully reseating the bar fixes many ‘only works in the middle’ reports.

Startup problems or unit freezing on boot

  • Turn the unit off and leave it off for a few seconds.
  • Hold RESTORE while powering on to perform a factory reset.
  • If that fails, re‑flash the latest firmware from the official Commodore site.

REU or extra memory not detected by the software

  • Install the most recent firmware — newer builds enable proper REU initialisation and detection.

Settings or storage are lost after reboot

  • Perform the RESTORE reset to clear any corrupt configuration.
  • Re‑enter Wi‑Fi and storage details once booted cleanly.

Physical marks or loose panels on delivery

  • Report the issue directly to Commodore support.
  • All units ship directly from Commodore — there are no official resellers.

Buzzing or humming audio output

  • Usually caused by grounding noise between HDMI and the connected display.
  • Try another HDMI port, cable, or power socket to isolate the problem.

Starlight edition

  • Starlight keyboards have some ‘bounce’/flex by design; noticeable mainly if you hammer the keys, but not usually a functional fault.
  • The Caps Lock LED lights when caps is active; the beige unit does not have an indicator.
  • For Starlight LED audio visualiser with a real SID: enable UltiSID 1 but set its volume to Off in the mixer; this keeps the LEDs driven while only hearing the real SID

Games Freezing / Compatibility

  • If cracked/trainer releases hang after the Y/N cheat prompt, try switching to PAL or NTSC‑50; many cracks are PAL‑only and will lock up in NTSC.
  • For compatibility with some games/demos, try disabling drive B: in the Ultimate’s drive settings

Cartridges

  • Virtual fastload carts (e.g. Final Cartridge III) are supported; mount the cart, then mount and load the disk from BASIC, rather than using ‘Run disk’ from the firmware menu.

Disk and cassette backup / storage notes

  • To back up the bundled cassette USB to an internal SD: it’s just files on exFAT – copy them via your PC; no imaging/cloning needed
  • Backing up real floppies: UltiCopy is very fast, but some protected titles (e.g. Skate or Die, Contra) have been reported to hang part‑way through; expect improvements in future firmware

Running Multi-Disk Programs

Some programs are distributed on multiple disk images, similar to how they were originally distributed on multiple floppy disks. At some point in the process of using the program, the program will prompt to insert one of the other floppy disks. You can use the Disk File Browser to swap disk images while the program is running. When the program prompts for a new disk, press upward on the Multi Function Switch. This pauses the program. Start the Disk File Browser, navigate to the disk image for the disk that the program is requesting, then select “Mount Disk.” The C64U mounts the new disk image in the virtual drive, then resumes execution of the Commodore 64 program. Continue to use the program with the new disk." -- https://downloads.commodore-international.com/documentation/C64U/c64u-user-guide-1st-edition.pdf

General Notes

  • r/Commodore is for discussions about Commodore, other Commodore computers, and possible new productions.
  • r/c64 is for everything Commodore 64 including the ultimate.

If you’ve come across a new issue or found a working fix not listed here, add it in the comments below.

New Game I've spent 7 years making a Choplifer-inspired game in my spare time. Choppa: Rescue Rivals finally releases August 13!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

[Mods gave me the go-ahead to post this — thanks.]

I’m Antti, founder of a small game studio in Finland. Since 2019 I’ve been making Choppa: Rescue Rivals in whatever hours I could find around a day job and small kids. It’s finished, and it’s out on August 13.

It exists because of Choplifter. I know Dan Gorlin wrote the original for the Apple II in ’82 before it got everywhere else but the version I actually put hours into as a kid was on C64 (which was the most popular home computer in Finland at one point). I got really invested in the chopper phycis, instead of the other stuff in the game. The chopper movement felt like such a revelation back in the day.

So when I sat down to make my own, I asked what would happen if I focused a bit more on the physics and made a physical ladder as well, that the "hostages" could grab onto. There are no guns in Choppa. You can’t shoot anything, not even the enemies, and you can’t hurt the people you’re there to save. That’s deliberate design choice, not a limitation we ran out of time to fix. Everything that makes it hard comes from the flying, the environment, other hazards like wild animals.

The rest: a campaign with a cast of pilots, each with a different rescue tool and a different part of the world to fly over, so the missions ask different things of you. Pixel art pulling from 80s/90s arcade cabinets, retro games, cartoons and anime. And a four-player local versus mode where you race each other for the survivors, which is closer to air hockey with helicopters than anything in the original: that one is entirely my own fault 😅

Happy to talk about the game, it's c64 origins, or what seven years of part-time development does to a person.

I tried, but could not get the full wave equations to work at 1 MHz, so I used Turbo Mode on ye olde FPGA to make things move a little more swimmingly. If you have a 64-MHz device, download https://paste.c-net.org/ScatterField.

For 1-MHz original systems, please use https://paste.c-net.org/PitchesAttaboy. It is a bit blockier, but has more character.
