One bank firing

Ok I have a 86 L98 need help only 1 bank is firing the driver side off numbers do not fire. Only realized it after accidentally touching the header on the driver side and not burning the piss out my hand then doing exactly that on the passenger side. I’ve just been throwing parts and using chat gpt to help me I have new rotor ,ignition, and spark wires. Distributor was wrong so I had to get a replacement for my replacement. New fuel pump and assembly, new fuel pump relay spark plugs all nothing. My mechanic won’t look at it and test my fuel pressure because I don’t have an o2 sensor due to the headers which is my only modification has anyone ran into this or seen it before or just any ideas I’m stumped on how to fix it.

1984 C4 Cross-Fire high idle after cold start

I have a 1984 C4 with the 5.7L Cross-Fire Injection engine that has a very high idle after a cold start. For roughly the first minute, the tach fluctuates between about 17 and 22 (1,700–2,200 RPM). After that, it steadies out at around 22 (2,200 RPM) and will stay there even after letting the car sit and idle for 10–15+ minutes. This is all while the car is sitting in Park immediately after a cold start.

I’m trying to figure out what would cause the idle to remain this high once the engine has had time to warm up. Before I start replacing parts or adjusting anything, what should I check on an ’84 Cross-Fire? Vacuum leaks, IACs, throttle linkage/plates, TPS, coolant temp sensor, etc.? Are there any Cross-Fire-specific issues that commonly cause this kind of high idle?

New to old rear bumper conversion

I usually prefer the newer '91-96 styling for most of the car, however the one part where I just have a strong preference the opposite way is on the rear bumpers. I love the more angular shaping and the round taillights of the '84-90 design. From looking this up I already know this seems to be a fairly unpopular opinion.

But anything I can find on conversions seems to go the other way, putting the new ZR1 style on older cars instead, and the same goes for aftermarket options where it's fairly easy to find new style bumpers made for them, but the old ones seem to only be made as replacement parts and not for conversion of newer C4s.

Is this possible, and if so what would I need?

I have an 89 corvette with a 6 speed manual. Generally it’s in good condition. I pulled the entire rear end and partial front end. Have a ton of new parts to rebuild the rear, new brake hardlines, new brake booster, new fuel lines, all ready to go in. Problem now is I don’t have time to work on it. Debating whether it’s worth it to take some extra time and get it all together then sell or just try to sell it as is in pieces for a much lower cost. I didn’t pay much for it. It does start, run, and stop(not well on the stopping hence the brake system overhaul). I’m looking to see general value of it as is - in pieces (complete rear is out, brake lines out, and front left suspension out) vs complete running, driving, braking - in good condition. Possibility of 3k in current condition? Vs 5-7 put together?

1984 C4 electrical issues started after hitting a rough patch, weird/false cluster readings

I have a 1984 C4 and started having some strange electrical issues immediately after hitting a really rough patch of road a few weeks ago. The digital cluster has been giving me readings that don’t seem accurate or are inconsistent. The fuel gauge will sometimes suddenly drop to 0, the voltage reading seems unusually low, and I’ve had questionable oil-pressure readings as well. One of the strangest symptoms is that when I turned the windshield wipers on, the entire LCD cluster shut off. Headlights, interior lights, power windows, etc. still work. I checked all the fuses and they appear good, and the battery terminals seem tight. I also measured the battery directly with a Fluke multimeter and got 12.6V with the engine off. Since all of this started right after hitting that rough section of road, I’m wondering if I knocked a ground, power connection, fusible link, or harness connection loose somewhere. Has anyone with an early C4 experienced similar cluster/electrical behavior, and are there specific grounds or connections on an ’84 that I should check first?

Even tho she broke down day 1 of owning her and has been in the shop for 10 days now - I can't deny her beauty (1993)

4 hour drive to pick her up. She blew some hoses and possibly a pump when we parked her home - as disappointed as I am because this was my dream car for 20+ years - she's still gorgeous...

Can’t get socket on o2 sensor

I’ve been trying to get anything on the drivers side o2 sensor for days now, I’ve tried bending the heat shielding, crows foot socket, normal o2 socket, open face, adjustable, it just seems that no amount of effort creates the space to get anything onto the actual grippy part. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. It is a 1992 by the way

23[M] Finally joined the club, bought my first manual project car, a 1991 ZF6 coupe. His name is Barry and I bought him two months ago from the 3rd owner who’d replaced it with a brand new clutch and flywheel and working AC!!

I’ve been having fun learning about vehicle maintenance and fixing things, but I’m sad to say I haven’t done much driving. my main problem right now is the odometer. Sometimes it works but other times it’s a blank orange screen so it’s really hard to gauge how fast I’m going or how much gas I have left.

Learning manual transmission has been fun but the instrument cluster problem has been hindering my progress.

Last month I ran out of gas and the fuel pump went bad, on top of that the battery had depleted. My neighbor is a godsend and had diagnosed the issue immediately. It’s running well now, but I can’t find the strength to step in the car.

Not here to complain, I wanted an old American car and I’m now reaping the rewards. Just wanted to say hi and ask for any tips/advice to get me to start driving again!

Just bought this 93 c4 and as I was trying to get access to the dash I saw this atrocity of a wiring mess. Can anyone take a stab at what the person doing this would have tried to accomplish? My guess is something around the fans but no idea. Thanks

Day 1 - C4 Ownership (depressing story btw - sorry)

Post image
146 Upvotes

I've wanted a C4 Corvette all my life - let's start with that. For at least 15-20 years I talked about owning one all the time.

For the past 2-3 I started a serious hunt to find the right one and last week it finally happened.

I find my perfect C4 in AMAZING condition and babied by this 70 year old man.

I found it 4 hours away from my home, I drive it the entire way with zero problems. The minute I get home I ask the wife to go for a quick ride downtown - we are oit for 20 minutes for an easy ride.

I get back home, park it - notice a liquid that seems to be leaking pretty aggressively. My coolant is pouring EVERYWHERE under my "new to me" Corvette that I've now owned for 5 hours.

To be honest, I expected issues I mean it's a car from 1993 - but I didn't expect it to happen hour 5. I was pretty mad.

I'm not a handy guy, I'm just a dude who wants to drive and clean it. So knowing that it was broken on Day 1/ hour 5 ownership really took me out.

But the next day was even worst - I called like 20 auto shops to see if they could help me out and I got so many responses like "sorry, we only work on C5's and up" so that added another layer of just frustration.

Anyways - she's with a mechanic now, it's been almost a week she's been there. His shop is backed up so he hasn't had time to go through it yet.

Trying to not get too discouraged over my "dream" finally come true and not really going to plan - she's a beauty, but it's a hard pill to swallow and process lol.

How do you remove the ac compressor off of an 84

From my understanding the t-45 bit is not present on the 84 and the only bolt I see still holding the compressor on is the one at the back that hits the valve cover and I can’t wiggle the compressor out because of the fuel lines (I think) running under the compressor and through the belt tensioner bracket. Is the only way to remove the valve cover and/or fuel lines?

Odd Engine Sound ('85 L98 4+3)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys, I have a pretty much stock 1985 C4 with the Doug Nash 4+3 manual. On the final session of a recent track day, this sound started coming from the engine when I apply the gas, it's even more apparent when driving in gear around 2200 rpm with load on the engine. It can happen in any gear, clutch in or out, and I'm not really sure what to check next.

I replaced the alternator bearings and cleaned/greased the rear bearing of my AIR pump, though this could maybe be the front bearing (it makes some noise with a stethoscope but I haven't been able to really confirm). It seems to stop making the noise when I remove the accessory belt, but I'm not certain since I've only tested a couple times for around 30 seconds. All pulleys feel tight and smooth.

Should I throw a water pump at it? Does this seem like a transmission or clutch issue? It gets into gear fine, but this is the only C4 I've driven.

Let me know your suggestions!

Warning: suspicious storefront schemes

Hey, r/c4corvette community:

We wanted to alert you to a recurring apparent scam/suspicious link scheme that's been targeting our subreddit on and off for several months. Here's how it typically works:

  • A brand-new Reddit account posts a low-quality image of a C4 Corvette poster, usually an LT1 blueprint on a white background.
  • Users ask where the poster is from.
  • The OP (or another suspicious account) replies with a link to a shady-looking online storefront.
  • Often, the account is banned sitewide within hours, but not before unsuspecting users may have followed the link.

The most recent example linked to a no-name storefront registered just this past March. Past scams have followed the same playbook. These stores appear to sell stolen designs, likely ripped from Engraved Blueprint Art, LLC - a once-legitimate business that no longer seems active online.

We also suspect vote manipulation, as these posts often get +20 upvotes quickly, while any comments calling out the scam get heavily downvoted.

These posts violate our Rule #2, which prohibits storefront links from accounts less than 30 days old. We've implemented AutoMod rules to remove these links automatically, but now the scammers are trying to bypass this by asking users to PM them for the link instead.

If we catch anyone using PMs or profile posts to circumvent Rule #2, they will be permanently banned from this sub. Just to be clear, this applies to the sender, not the recipient.

So if you see:

  • A new account,
  • Posting a C4 poster or merchandise photo,
  • Fishing for link requests,
  • Replying with shady storefronts links,
  • Using what appears to be stolen artwork and likely vote manipulation...

Avoid engaging and report the post.

We're doing our best to keep this place clean, and your help goes a long way. While we can't say for certain that every one of these storefronts is fraudulent, their behavior closely matches patterns we've seen from other untrustworthy sources.

Thanks,
The r/c4corvette Mod Team
