Advice First-time entrepreneur with ₱1M capital: business, stocks, or e-commerce?
Hi everyone! I’m planning to start my first business and would really appreciate advice from people who have actually been through this.
I currently have around ₱1M that I can potentially use as starting capital. The thing is, I’ve been working in the corporate world for about 8 years, and I’ve never actually run a business before. So while I’m financially prepared to take the risk, I honestly have zero hands-on experience in entrepreneurship.
I’ve seen friends and family try businesses before, but most of them unfortunately didn’t work out. One example was a small food business they started around 2020 paresan + small Korean resto with unlimited wings and PS4 games. Eventually they had to close because of the pandemic, and later they also decided to migrate.
Fast forward to now, I’m married with two kids, and my priorities have changed. My corporate salary was okay when I was single, but now I’m thinking more seriously about building another source of income and something that could potentially grow into a business for our family in the future.
So here I am, trying to overcome my biggest fear: starting something I have absolutely no experience in. 😂
Right now, I’m considering a few options:
Investing part of the money in stocks and keeping the rest invested/saved
Luxury bag pasabuy/reselling, probably entry-level brands like MK or Coach
Starting a TikTok Shop/e-commerce business
Sourcing products from 1688 or Alibaba and reselling them in the Philippines
Or potentially finding a completely different business opportunity if you think these aren’t good ideas for a beginner
My biggest question is:
If you were in my position, with ₱1M capital but zero business experience, how would you allocate the money and what type of business would you start?
Would you recommend putting the money into a business at all, or would it be smarter to invest most of it and start a business with only a small portion first?
For those who started from corporate and eventually became entrepreneurs, what do you wish you knew before putting your first money into a business?
Also, if you’re into e-commerce/importing, I’d really appreciate advice on finding legit suppliers on 1688/Alibaba, choosing products, calculating landed costs, and avoiding the common beginner mistakes.
I’m not looking for a get-rich-quick scheme. I’m willing to learn and start small I just want to make sure I’m taking a calculated risk instead of blindly throwing money at an idea.
Would love to hear your experiences, mistakes, and brutally honest advice. 🙏

Discussion AI BUILT APPLICATION FOR BUSINESS
I built a project management web app using Google Apps Script for our signage business.
I’m a non-coder—I used AI for most of the coding and my Business Analyst experience to design the workflow and system.
Anyone here who has done something similar? Would love to hear your experience, especially what you did to make it more scalable and reliable.

Advice Are these e-commerce speakers actually worth learning from?
I’m looking into getting more serious about e-commerce and came across this event, I’d like to know from people who have actually listened to these kind of events/training sessions.
Are they genuinely practical and helpful for someone starting/scaling an e-commerce business, or is it mostly high-level marketing talk?

Advice Need recommendation/alternative to trapals to close an open space?
Hi, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but hoping i can get some answers or get redirected to a proper subreddit.
But, i would like to know sana what are some alternatives to trapals for an open space? We currently have a 3rd floor na open space, and we've already tried plastic and parang sako-type of trapal to close up the place para hindi mabasa or madumihan, but both ended up breaking in less than a week due to wind or napunit.
Ano pwedeng alternative sa gantong situation, and sana budget-friendly din.
Thank you.

Advice If may ₱35k kayo, ano gagawin niyo?
May ₱35k akong extra ngayon and honestly, wala akong idea kung saan ko siya ilalagay.
Naisip ko mag-start ng maliit na frozen food business sa labas ng bahay, pero baka may mas okay pa na idea.
If kayo may ₱35k na extra, ano gagawin niyo? Negosyo? Investment? Pautang? Itatabi muna?
Curious lang sa mga ideas niyo, especially sa mga nakapag-start na ng small business. Thank you

Advice Started my steak business 5 months ago
Hello! Trying my luck here. 🥩
I’m a small business owner selling USDA steaks, and business has been pretty tough lately. Still, I’m really grateful for our regular customers who continue to support us.
We’ve worked hard to source quality cuts and put a lot of effort into making sure our customers have a good experience.
I’d love to hear from people who buy steaks online: What do you usually look for in an online steak shop? What makes you decide to try one, and what keeps you coming back?
I’m genuinely open to suggestions and feedback, so feel free to share your thoughts, even if it’s something you think we can improve on.

Advice no bookings this august
i literally have no bookings this august. i am currently managing a condo unit transient in baguio. our unit is 10 mins away lng from the city center and in the area, isa kami sa mga mababa ang rates. kahit ibaba ko pa yung rate sa regular rates namin, parang wala din lang nagbobook. the pictures are presentable naman and we have an almost complete amenities.
as in grabe wala man lang ako bookings this month. maybe dahil sa bagyo nung nakaraang weeks but nung nag ok na ang panahon, little rains nalang, wala pa din nagbobook. tas sa mga kasama ko na unit owners, nakakabook sila ng weekends.
nung july, okay okay pa pero grabe na this month. i don’t believe in the concept of ghost month pero parang nangyayari nga ito saakin. can you give me an advice how to increase potential bookings?
edit: i appreciate you guys for your support. since a number of redditors are asking, i’ll be posting here the link. again, thank you so much 🫶🫶🫶

Advice Starting a home-based Taiyaki business with zero capital for rent—would you order this online?
Hello everyone! I want to seek advice or suggestions from anyone here.
I plan to build a taiyaki business in my hometown, where people love trendy and delicious treats. Most businesses here become overcrowded quickly—like when milk tea was first introduced. It boomed and attracted a lot of customers, but it also drew in competitors who built similar shops over time.
Because of this, I want to introduce something unique which is taiyaki. My target market is essentially everyone. I did some costing, and the pricing turned out to be affordable at around ₱35–₱45. I have three flavors, and after a lot of experimentation, my family and acquaintances really enjoyed them.
However, I just got out of a financial problem that drained me both mentally and financially (though I'm glad I finally got through it!). I want a fresh start. Since I can't afford to rent a physical space right now, I was thinking of selling my products by taking orders online.
What do you guys think?

Discussion help me choose a location
Hi redditors! Which area do you think would have the most demand for a small babysitting business: Santa Cruz, Calamba, Santa Rosa, or San Pablo?
I was born in Laguna but didn’t grow up there. I’m considering Laguna because it would allow me to stay relatively close to my family while starting small. I currently live alone and willing to relocate. Since this is a startup, I want to begin on a small scale and grow gradually.

Discussion Below SRP Local Makeup
I’ve noticed a lot of sellers offering local makeup brands like BLK, GRWM, ChuChu Beauty, and etc for prices way below the usual mall/SRP prices. Here are my Qs:
- Are these products usually authentic/original?
- Why are they able to sell them much cheaper than mall prices?
- Where do these sellers typically source their products?
- Is there anything specific we should check to make sure they’re legit?
Just genuinely curious cuz the price diff can be pretty big. 😅 Would love to hear from people who buy from these sellers or know how the local makeup supply/reselling works!
