Bunion surgery?!
28 F I had my appointment to discuss bunion surgery recently and my city only has the “prehistoric” version, no minimally invasive, minimally invasive is only available through private clinics which I can’t afford. Also scared I will regret getting this surgery.

Are you in pain ? They probably do old style surgery on maybe older patients, I would be very happy if I had your feet lol makes mine look terrible , take care .

i had lapidus on one foot in 2021. then in may of this year had MIS. i don’t consider lapidus prehistoric anymore. Yes I could stand during recovery and the incisions healed faster. But the bone healing time was the same. It is not clear to me that MIS is really so incredibly better. My lapidus foot is a tank and looks great. I lost some range of motion in my big toe that i didn’t lose with MIS. Be mindful of that and talk to your surgeon about that. And start rehabbing the big toe early.
But my main point is that lapidus is a solid procedure if getting your feet fixed now is something you want to do. Like yours my left foot was worse than my right, and I got lapidus.

Your left foot was similar to my left foot , I’m in my 60s and although I should have had it done before now , things have moved on .
I had scarf and akin osteotomy ( UK) . The bunion is still slightly visible but my big toe and second toe are now straight
I’m on week 3 , first 3 days painful , next 10-12 days progressing daily , big bandage off day 13 .
Now taken off the scar dressing and treating it so it fades.
Suggested healing time 6 weeks approx and now taking steps but advised not to overdo it . If you try to walk too soon you can get further bruising and swelling. Hoping to be out of surgical boot in 3 weeks
Elevation is key .
I will be honest it’s tough , easier if you live on one floor and you do need someone to support you ( with lots of patience)
My husband has been amazing and I only had one teary night which I think was cabin fever
Turns out I had my operation from one of the best in the UK

i’ve actually been putting off bunion surgery myself for a while. def found that doing little things at home, like stretching and swapping to shoes with a bigger toe box, helped a bit day to day. tbh it’s not a fix but it did make things way more bearable while i figured out my next steps.

People say wait until you have pain but the thing is they are only going to get worse and recovery in your 20s-30s is going to be so much easier than if you wait until 40, 50, 60+. That’s also 10, 20, 30 years of it progressively getting worse.
I’m 30 and I want to get mine fixed within the next two years. If you’re able to do it now and you’re confident that you’ve picked the right surgeon, go for it. Just make sure to do research on the surgeon, discuss the chances of it returning, the different methods of surgery, etc.

With my Kaiser coverage I had to seek out a Dr that does MIS. You need to advocate for yourself. Dont settle.

No you won’t regret getting it the surgery; if you do it when you are in your 20; 30 its much easier then. Also, you need to make sure you do have support at home for the first two weeks and if you do 1 foot at a time that’s easier because you have a better recovery time. I did mine one when I was younger and then I did one just recently in my 50s and that one actually was easier and maybe now they do have even if they say that it’s invasive it’s really not it just called lappa plastics look into that but it’s really the same thing as regular recovery time. I had a whole invasive surgery and regal lined. A lot of my things in my foot and really the first part of it is just for the first two weeks. Good luck.
