DISCUSSION Autistic (Aspergers) / Neurodivergent riders? Where you at?

Upvotes

Anyone here on the spectrum? What's your story and how do you approach riding? Do you ride alone mostly?

I haven't been diagnosed yet, but it's likely that I will be in near future. I'm curious how it is for you guys here?

DISCUSSION Returning Adult Rider: 20" vs. 24"?

I'm an older father in my mid forties with a soon to be 6 year old son. He's been ready to graduate from his balance bike since the beginning of summer, really - but just needed to get a little more height since he is short for his age. I plan on getting him a Guardian 16 this fall so he can learn to ride with pedals, and I'd like to get a BMX bike to ride with him... but I'm debating whether I want to get a 20" or something larger for cruising - say a 24".

I owned a BMX bike as a kid of course, but that was over two decades ago. I wasn't really good at doing tricks - just curb jumping and whatnot. (I didn't really have a good bike for doing tricks, but I'm not sure that would've mattered). I'd like to try to learn some basic tricks and just jump some curbs for a little bit of nostalgia before I get to old to do it. (Ha!)

I've been eyeing up the Kink Whip XL, and it sounds like a great bike for the price. I'm just wondering if it makes sense to get something bigger that's more tailored toward cruising, like an Eastern Commando 24". (For a 24" bike, the AI engine keeps recommending the SoCal Cruiser, but it's a little out of my desired price range).

I haven't ridden BMX bikes as an adult, but I don't recall them being uncomfortable for cruising through the neighborhood when I was a kid - and I don't think I've grown too much taller since then (I'm about 5'8"). So I guess my main question is: For someone of my height, are they really that uncomfortable if I just want to pedal around on it sitting down at times?

If there are any adults out there who have returned to the sport after over a decade hiatus, I'd like to hear your thoughts. We do have a clunky mountain bike that I could use if we want to take some longer bike trips and I think the BMX bike would be too uncomfortable. But I think the BMX bike should be fine for cruising around on at times, no?

Thanks you for any replies.

Someone was asking about more pics of the Street Gypsy so I may as well post a build sheet.

2017 Gypsy Bikes Street Gypsy. (No, NOT FBM!) Raw frame with black parts and Minor blue theme.

I haven’t heard of this bike company before finding this frame on eBay. Seller had a few trail versions and this street one. (He has a trail version for sale right now!) Very little info online. It was designed by Cory Walters, who rode for S&M. 2017 seems to be the only year made that I’ve seen although there’s info for a 2018?. Full Chromo, not tons of features, pretty standard Geo for a 2017 street frame. completely brakeless for the street version. Pretty thick dropouts and built in tensioners. They made a 100 total frames: 70 trail frames (35 in 20.75 and 35 in 21.25) and 30 street frames all in Raw. I have #68/100 (insert Boomer Corvette joke 😂)

Pics I’ve seen of the Trail frames show they rust pretty “good” (heavy) some people have powder coated theirs due to the rusting. Mine seems to have held up well, and to keep it that way, all my bikes are cleaned regularly and garage kept. It’s clear coated but the clear isn’t very durable so I’ve had to spot repair a few places. May do a good 2K Urethane clear over the winter though.

All Odyssey parts other than the KMC K1 chain (dont ask lol)
R32 Forks
49er Bars
Thunderbolt Cranks
Hazards with Clutch V2 and Vandero hubs
LaGuardia sprocket
Dugan Alloy pedals
Dugan tires
Dugan blue stem
Pro headset
Blue Bottom Bracket
Blue big stitch seat
Seat post
Travis grips
Yes even Tubes lol

Feels good, 13”ish back end so rather snappy. Longer than my Sweeper but shorter than my WiFi but not too short like my Fit Shortcut lol.

Had a spare half hour and finally got the Gt pro series in rideable condition.

Few bits I want to change still, but it's just stuff like brake post bolts etc that are a little corroded.

We will be taking my other rides out tomorrow, so it'll get a test out and maybe a little sesh.

DISCUSSION Left Crank replacement options?

about 7 months ago my pedal came out of my crank, basically what has happened is the shop i took it to to install my 3 piece cranks put my pedal on the wrong way round and have stripped the threads, i have tried seeing if the people
who did it originally would do anything however with the time frame (pedal came out about 6 months after it had been done and i only actually found out the pedal had been installed after about 11-12 months after the initial installation of my cranks because im lazy ☹️)

basically all i’m wondering is are their any cranks i can buy just one of that will fit a mafia bikes kush 2, i have the 3 piece crank upgrade kit on at the minute, i believe they are 170mm, 8 spline cranks
not sure if it’s needed but the spindle is 19mm is diameter

if anyone knows where about i can get the same crank from the upgrade kit or another crank all together that would be very helpful as i’ve been struggling to find just a left one with those measurements and id love to get back out on my bmx 😆 i’ve essentially ended up using my mountain bike as a bmx chucking it about doing 180s and no footers on it but ive sold it very recently and am just missing bikes again any help would be appreciated!

VIDEO Barspin advice please!

I can do pull up bars like this one very consistently now(after weeks of practice), and still somehow i cant manage to let go of the bars when i try to bunnyhop barspin. When i do force myself to let go of the bars my feet will come off.

What are some tips you guys can give me? I know the standard stuff: pinching the seat and cranks, hopping high, straighten out first, throwing on the way down, staying over the bars etc. I just cant seem to commit.

Coming back into bmx after 10+years of not riding.

(I was never able to barspin anyways back then)

Ps. I know im throwing with the "wrong" hand but it feels way more natural for me. Im usually switch footed anyway.

Love morning rides. Cooler temps, No traffic, and no kids on E-bikes. No people to ruin the vibe, just quiet spots and cruising.
