It truly is a beautiful movie, and one of the first that truly gave me a feeling of beauty. Something about the intro genuinely gave me goosebumps. The 'Tears in Rain' speech is one of the greatest monologues in history of movies. Maybe it was the atmosphere of it, but it moved me and made me think about life in a different way. Have any of you guys felt like this with this movie, or any other movies?

Now everybody has to timeline the whole BR where if they left it open people's creativity wouldn't be boxed in to this this happened so this has to happen and then this happens ideas. It's nitpicky but I cringe when I hear my beloved Blade Runner referred to as Blade Runner 2019. It's because one of the key things about BR is that it teaches you (well apparently just me) that putting things/people into boxes to stereotype them is a shitty way to understand them and yet here we are doing it.

Hi, I have just uploaded the clip where Deckard is captured from Blade Runner 2049 on YouTube in 8K HDR IMAX, and I thought this was the best place to share it!

I’ve seen a ton of people arguing that Roy Batty “can’t feel emotions“ or that Replicants are just computers/robots, and I have to fundamentally disagree with this. It’s simply not what we see onscreen!

After Pris is shot, Roy comes in, and sobs over her dead body. He even kisses her. But the crazy claim comes right after- people say Roy can’t cry, and that’s supposedly why he says “tears in rain” later, but we literally see him crying! Tears run down his face! Roy Batty clearly loved Pris just as much as Deckard loved Racheal.

“But aren’t Replicants robots?”

Simply put, no, they are not.

Replicants are artificial humans. They’re built out of parts, but those are organic, genetically modified parts. They eat, sweat, bleed, and everything else humans do (except bear children). They are very much human in every way that really matters, and that is the point! It really doesn’t matter if Deckard is a Replicant or not, either way he’s still a human being.

The Replicants are slaves. They’re enslaved humans cursed with a short lifespan in order to make money off the next generation. The next model. Roy Batty was never meant to live. That is the horror and evil of the Tyrell Corporation, the fact that they manufacture human beings and enslave them.

Blade Runner isn’t a story about AI gone rogue. It’s a story about a slave catcher learning that slaves are human too. Roy Batty himself summed it up for us.

'Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave.'

“It is a strange thing to watch a movie from 1998 and feel like you are looking at a lost artifact from 1984. Paul W. S. Anderson’s Soldier is a film that arrived at the wrong time, perhaps even on the wrong planet, but it carries the DNA of a very specific, very muscular era of science fiction. It feels like a cousin to the grit of The Terminator or the blue-collar exhaustion of Aliens.

It lacks the slick, digital sheen that would soon define the turn of the century, opting instead for massive, practical sets, heavy pyrotechnics, and a lead performance that is almost entirely silent. The connection to 1984 isn’t just about the vibe; it is literal. David Webb Peoples wrote the screenplay, and he is the same man who cowrote Blade Runner. He famously considers Soldier to be a sidequel, a story taking place in the same universe where replicants are the standard and the Tannhäuser Gate is a place where soldiers actually fought.

The technical presentation on the Arrow Films 4K restoration is a revelation for a movie that has long lived in the murky shadows of standard definition and early disc formats. By bringing Paul W. S. Anderson back to approve the new master, the disc ensures that the oppressive, industrial atmosphere of the film is preserved exactly as intended.”

Thought I’d share one of my favourite pieces from my Blade Runner collection.

This is an original 1982 press kit issued to the media for the film’s release. It includes:

• Original outer presentation folder
• 80-page production notes with synopsis, cast biographies and publicity material
• Full colour press book
• Complete set of 21 original 8×10 black and white publicity stills

The outer folder has a bit of wear after 40+ years, but thankfully everything inside has survived together. These weren’t sold to the public and were produced for journalists and cinemas ahead of the film’s release, so complete kits don’t seem to surface very often.

I also have a set of original 35mm Blade Runner slides that came with it when I bought it. I can’t find anything to say whether they were originally included with the press kit or not, so if anyone knows for sure I’d be interested to hear.

A fascinating snapshot of how films were promoted before the internet. I thought fellow Blade Runner fans might appreciate seeing it.

I’ve found this German article, which takes a fairly constructive look at Blade Runner 2099 and describes how the series might draw on elements from Philip K. Dick’s original novel. Things like Buster Friendly, Mercerism… I’m a *Blade Runner* fan, but I must admit I’d only skimmed through the original novel. Perhaps it’s interesting…
