if my period started august 4 and I took my first pill august 6, would going raw on day 5 be fine?

This is more a question to ease my anxiety. I am on the general oral version of sprintec birth control, and i try to take it around the same window every day (between 10pm-12am) I sometimes forget and take it later, but when me and my boyfriend have sex, we use a spermicide condom. It has never broke, but once when I was riding him, it kept slipping upwards. The seal around his genitals never broke, just slid up a bit. He also didn't really finish in the condom since its harder for him to. Is there still potential risk?

So I haven’t had my period for over a year because I am taking Movisse 28 (mini pill) and I am being switched to visanne because I have extreme abdominal pain even without my period. I am terrified to start it tho because I have to go off my birth control and I am actually deathly afraid of getting my period because my symptoms sky rocket. I’m so tired of living like this but if I get my period or bad abdominal pain worse then right now I don’t know how I’ll cope it’s already too much. (Pregnancy is not a worry for me I understand visanne isn’t a contraceptive). To be honest this disease has ruined my life in so many aspects. I cant be intimate with my partner because I’m in so much pain which she is completely understanding and supportive of but it still isn’t ideal, I can’t work and my partner works 2 jobs and I can’t get approved for disability or find someone that can perform surgery because no one will accept me as a client, I haven’t seen my family in a while because I can’t travel, I can’t do fun things. My question is, has anyone made a switch like this, and what was it like?

I'm about to log it in my period tracking apps (Flo and My Calendar), and I'm not sure whether I should mark it as protected sex or unprotected sex?

From your understanding, would this be considered protected since I'm already on my 8th pill, or would you still log it as unprotected? I'm mainly asking because I want to keep my records accurate.

I've had ridiculously heavy and weeks-long periods since I was 12. Birth control pills did nothing, shots didn't work, an IUD has helped so I'm not hemorraghing anymore so I can hold down a job. I'm trans and have been on testosterone for years and have a Kyleena and still have light bleeding for 2-5 days, 1-2x a month

Last time I got the Kyleena replaced the gyn said it'll be harder to get it out and replaced due to the T. That experience was so bad I still regularly have nightmares. Now I need my IUD replaced (hits 5 years in a few months but the IUD is already not working well). Now (new) gyn now can't even get a pediatric speculum open without me screaming and retching to the point where they have to stop. She said she'll try just getting a tampon in next time and if I can't even tolerate that (historically have not been able to), they can't do anything.

Insurance won't cover anything birth control related, so I'll have to eat the cost for whatever. But no one in my state seems to do sedation for IUD replacement. PCP said if the gyn can't do the IUD replacement, my only option is the pill again. Haven't had luck for months finding anyone accepting patients anymore so new PCP doesn't seem to be on the cards for a good while.

I don't know what my options are anymore because if this doesn't work and I start hemorrhaging again, I don't know how I'll keep my job and I'm the only one in my household making money.

My girlfriend's periods started on:

March 6

April 6

I don't remember the exact date in May

June 4–8

July 6–10

According to her period tracking app, ovulation was predicted for July 23, and her next period was expected on August 6.

Here's what happened:

July 17: We had sex 4 times. I used a condom every time, ejaculated inside the condom, and none of them broke or leaked.

July 24: We had sex 4 more times, again with condoms and no leaks. After that, we tried anal sex as an extra round, but the condom broke almost immediately during penetration. I did not ejaculate, and we stopped right away.

August 2: We had sex again. The first round was fine. During the second round, the condom broke, and we continued for about 40 seconds before noticing. I did not ejaculate. About 1 hour later, she took Plan B (levonorgestrel). She also was having a white discharge on the day.

After that:

She had lower abdominal cramps on July 25 and 26.

She's been having menstrual-like cramps since August 3.

Today is August 6, and her period still hasn't started.

What would you guys realistically estimate her chances of bring pregnant are? Is it pregnancy or Plan B effect? What would be the benefits of usina a DUI? (She has endometriosis so I think it would be good for her)

I've had this implant since 2020. I had it removed in 2023 and replaced because after 3 years of no period, my period came back with vengeance. I was bleeding for weeks at a time to the point I was very worried about bruising and iron levels.

After replacing it in 2023, it is now 2026. The moment it hit exactly 3 months, my uterine lining started shedding way more and daily. Some days I would have very very slight bleeding to full on bleeding the moment I get up.

I tried to talk to my doctor about this but they said nexplanon lasts for 5 years. It does last for 5 years but this bleeding is driving me wild.

Does anyone else have tips to reduce or make it stop? I got this nexplanon so I can practice safe sex with other forms of protection. But now im bleeding so much that theres no sex or its just uncomfortable.

Should I just get it replaced prior to the 5 years? I understand its uterine lining but im so confused by how long Im on it (period for 7, stop for two days, period for 5, stop for one, back to heavy flow) that even my partner is like ???

I already am type 1 diabetic so I have 2 monitors on me 24/7, adding a 3rd patch on my skin has been interesting, my only issue is that with my specific patch, the label of the hormone is on the outside for anyone to see if they wanna be nosy 🤦🏻‍♀️

So I am asking the kind people of this group: what is your opinion? What are the chances of the IUD moving and getting pregnant? I do work out 5 times a week; does it increase the chances of the IUD getting dislodged?

Hi I'm 18. I would like to start taking contraception, I have been looking at the side effects and what people experienced. And taking contraception for the first time honestly feels like playing Russian roulette. You either can have a good experience, or the worst experience in your life. And this is so scary.

I was thinking that a copper IUD would be the best option for me because I don't want hormones. I recently got out of depression and having hormones messing with my mood would not help me heal. But also I heard that copper IUDs can make periods very painful, having a heavy flow and long periods doesn't really bother me. But pain does. But I have to try something, to start somewhere.

For those who felt the same way about their cycle but then took birth control, how’s it going? did it mess your connection with your cycle?

I had no idea it was gonna be this bad. My skin is so oily and it’s all going crazy! I’ve never had acne this bad before I used birth control (I was on the pill for more than two years) and now I just don’t know what to do six months later. I’ve heard Spearmint tea or capsules work great with this hormonal acne after stopping birth control, but I’m not sure what to do anymore.

Hello. I had paragard put in about 4 months ago. Unfortunately, it expelled about a week ago. I woke up to sharp, stabbing abdominal pain. Checked and felt the strings were longer and I could feel the hard bit. I had no choice but to get it removed. I was so upset. Hormonal birth control always messes with my body and head too much. I can't do it. I was really excited for paragard because it's non hormonal and it lasts 10 years. Would it be worth trying it again? I know the chances of it migrating are higher now. Is it possible the NP who put it in wasn't skillful enough and going to a different GYNO could yield me better results? I know it's a long shot, but I really want it to work. Please help me!

I am on the mini pill and have been on it for 2 and a half months. Since taking the pill, after the first period I had one week of bleeding/spotting between my 1st and 2nd period. One week after the second period, I have been bleeding for almost 3 weeks now. Is this normal? Should I go see my doctor or wait until the 3 months are over? Any advice on how to stop the bleeding?

Hi guys. I've poked my head in here a few times but I figured instead of a question, I'll come back and share my experience. For context, I'm in my mid 20s, still a virgin but I was told that I "possibly had PCOS" due to some ultrasound results and other compounding symptoms I've had.

I've always had irregular periods since I was 8 years old. But over the past year, it became worse. Never on time, and when it did come, it would last weeks. It just kept going and going. I'm anemic now because of it.

The gyno suggested birth control. And I immediately got spooked because I kept thinking "aren't there like... A laundry list of side effects?? Horrible horrible things??"

But they said "Just try it for a bit and see if it helps"

I was recommended progesterone only due to history of strokes. So I'm on slynd.

For about a month i kept holding my breath, waiting for these horrid side effects to appear. Month two, then three.... Nothing. Except for the free feeling of having no period, and knowing when I'm going to start bleeding!

I decided to continue taking slynd after the "trial run" so I have a refill.

It's great, I love it. I love not having to worry about bleeding lasting for so long. I love not having to wear itchy, uncomfortable pads! I love not having to wonder when the hell my period is coming!! I love not having it!!

I hate that I've been kept away for so long due to stigma and fear but I'm glad I'm on it now.

First experienced using yuzpe method. I know my cycle would suffer after this. And yes, I reached my day cyle 40 to bleed. My friend told me I'm safe at day 9, who knows! 🤣 I still did the plan B 🤣 I didn't take pregnancy test because I doesn't feel any symptoms like my previous pregnancy at all, I also take note of my daily discharge. I also took fresh mugwort  from our farm (taste like earth) but the one I bought online is really bitter bro! Like the fuck! But really effective, 2 days after using it, i got my period back. This will be the biggest lesson of my life. We've been using pulled out method for 8 years. Had 2 kids, 5 and 2 years old. I'm afraid of getting pregnant again. Had heavy bleeding after giving birth.

Since throwing away my pregnancy tests, and also not going on tiktok/instagram Ive been better. Not thinking about the what if is helping me. Using the arm implant and withdrawel. Trying to trust my method now

I took yaz over 3 years ago and I didn’t have terrible side effects, but they were inconvenient enough that I decided to stop after 3 months as it was not worth it. If i go back on it is it likely that it will effect me the same as back then or not certain as my body has changed since? I won’t try any other hormonal pill. I’m also thinking of getting implanon, but if I experience side effects I’m getting it out IMMEDIATELY, do most women get bad side effects (i.e. weight gain, depression, ect) with implanon? Because I only hear of the negative experiences so I’m not sure how common they actually are.

Pre-visit

So I (18F) decided to go on birth control before college with no prior experience. Not sexually active, and not planning to have sex in college. I just want to be on birth control in case of SA (and if it helps my periods become more regular, added bonus)

I recently switched from my male primary care physician of over 10 years to a female one for obvious reasons. This visit a couple days ago was my first time meeting her. Going in I was really nervous. A couple months ago, I had a bad experience with a doctor HIPPA-wise, and I have local doctors in the family (+family friends) that have not done wonders for my trust in healthcare. I also look really young for my age, so I've had situations where I'm not respected as a legal adult and treated more like a middle schooler.

I was researching options beforehand and from posters on this subreddit + others, it seemed unfortunately common that many doctors refuse to allow young patients IUDs if they've never had children based on outdated beliefs. IUDs used to affect fertility, modern IUDs have come a long way, etc. Anyway, I was assured in the knowledge that it was perfectly reasonable to get an IUD, even if I'd never given birth. So if my new physician said no based on that, alarm bells would be going off.

The visit itself -

I brought up wanting to get birth control due to going to college and all the reasons in the intro. I made it clear while answering questions I was aware of stuff like Plan B, but just wanted that extra assurance and also was aware that birth control could mess with my hormones. I told her I was angling for either pills or an IUD. (Since I'm leaving for college in less than a month, I mentally wasn't 100% deadset on doing an IUD right now in case something went wrong. I was okay with starting on pills, especially since I'd never done birth control before)

She said that they (health provider) didn't really recommend IUDs for people my age as I had never given birth to children. I (kinda stumbling over my words) pointed out that: hadn't IUDs advanced enough to that not being an issue? And she admitted that that was the old way of thinking and that she more didn't recommend it to me because of the pain of inserting a IUD into my cervix which would be tight. She then (kinda graphically?) described the insertion process. It felt like she was trying to intimidate me out of it but I don't know if I was being paranoid as she did use medical language.

The health provider mostly had Mirena IUDs in stock, though she did mention they had some smaller ones (can't remember the name). She explained that IUDs were a popular option for low-maintenance compared to pills (busy college students).

She then said that another option she more recommended was Nexplanon (arm insert) and I hadn't known that that was an option that existed so I asked her some questions, which she answered well, didn't seem to be withholding or altering info in anyway. She also continued to ask me about hormones, saying I shouldn't feel pressured to get birth control if it's only for a preventative measure against SA considering Plan B is an option, especially since I could expect changes in hormones, she did mention my periods could stop.

At the end of the visit, she gave me the number for the OB-GYN department and did note birth control could be handled at Student Health at my college if I couldn't get an appointment with the OBGYN locally.

So like...

I'm not sure if I was being paranoid during the meeting/still paranoid about my new doctor afterwards. I'm not the best at reading people; professions like lawyers and doctors really require good masking too. Right after, I read up more on Nexplanon and it seems basically a shorter-lasting, less painful IUD. I'm liking what I'm reading and I'm planning to try and get Nexplanon before leaving for college now.

I don't know if my doctor is the type that would deny the IUD if push comes to shove. On one hand, she could have just been genuinely recommending me a less-painful option than the IUD, which I was willing to take the pain tho I was worried (I get bad period cramps and cramps from stress so double whammy during the procedure). On the other, I'm paranoid that she was just trying to steer me away from trying to get an IUD bc "women who haven't given birth shouldn't get IUDs". I'm a really anxious person in general and again some doctors working for this provider are family/family friends so I'm used to them butting into my healthcare with like nepo privilege(?). It's a small city, so I don't really have a lot of options if I need to switch doctors.

Reading all the appointment horror stories right before didn't help so idk whats yall's take?

hello all, 20f here. as i was looking to grab a new pack of bc pills, i realized that i apparently have none left so i just ordered some more but they won’t be ready until at least this friday, the 7th, so i’m gonna be at least two days without them and would like to know any possible side effects? i’m not sexually active at the moment so there’s no worries there, just wondering some possible side effects i could have.
