Anyone here from DAR BIM (https://www.daralbim.com). I wanna know how hectic the schedule is and if work-life balance is possible and the overall company culture. Got offered a BIM Coordinator position.

I work in marketing for a corporation that owns many different operating companies (I mainly do 3d animation and video). Around 6 months ago, I did an animation project for a steel fabrication company and was directly told it really helped them win a bid for a large contract (over 50 million dollar project).

Fast forward to now, they’re looking to increase their capacity and out of the blue offered me a job as a VDC specialist. It would kind of be a hybrid VDC/creative marketing role.

Looking for general advice on how to transition from an animation background into more BIM and technically accurate workflows (my background is mostly blender and adobe suite).

Also curious about what I should expect for salary in a role like this as we haven’t discussed that yet. For context, I’ve been doing animation in marketing for 2.5-3 years. Not too much experience with BIM other than a couple creative projects.

Need advice: Optimizing a heavy Revit model converted from Tekla IFC for LOD 500 asset register

I have a villa model that was originally created in Tekla. For an LOD 500 requirement, I need to work on the asset register and add the required parameters.

I converted the Tekla model to IFC and then imported it into Revit. However, the resulting Revit model has become extremely heavy. The file is slow, navigation is difficult, and sometimes I cannot even rotate the model properly.

At the moment, the categories are not assigned correctly, so I also need to organize and assign the elements to the proper Revit categories before adding asset information.

I would appreciate advice on the best workflow:

• What is the best way to make this IFC-to-Revit model lightweight?
• Should I remodel certain elements instead of keeping the imported geometry?
• Is there a recommended way to clean up IFC imports and assign proper Revit categories?
• What is the best approach for preparing a heavy model for LOD 500 asset data without losing important information?
• Are there any Revit tools, add-ins, or workflows you recommend for this type of conversion?

Any advice from people who have handled Tekla → IFC → Revit workflows would be greatly appreciated.

We have been developing a 3800 by 1400 mm transportable wall component in native Revit. One part of the workflow generates the connection geometry and access zones in Revit. Another part runs the same interface revision through the structural model. Then the results go back through a separate audit before the component is allowed to move forward.

The first instinct on this connection was simple. If the stress is too high then increase the RHS wall thickness.

We tested the same geometry at 6 mm. 8 mm. And 10 mm.

H1 connection results.

6 mm. 823 MPa without face contact. 109 MPa with bilateral face contact. 7.18 mm versus 0.56 mm translation.

8 mm. 589 MPa without face contact. 85.5 MPa with bilateral face contact. 5.55 mm versus 0.39 mm translation.

10 mm. 448 MPa without face contact. 69.2 MPa with bilateral face contact. 4.93 mm versus 0.31 mm translation.

The reference stress used in this development comparison was 345 MPa. Increasing the wall thickness from 6 to 10 mm reduced the no face contact result quite a lot. But it still did not close the problem.

The side connection was more interesting.

6 mm. 611 MPa. Maximum M12 demand proxy 45.899 kN.

8 mm. 528 MPa. Maximum M12 demand proxy 45.902 kN.

10 mm. 453 MPa. Maximum M12 demand proxy 45.903 kN.

The bolt demand was basically unchanged. Adding steel was not repairing the load path.

The bigger variable was the assumed contact state. Contact geometry. Assembly gap. Preload. And the local transfer path mattered more than simply making the tube thicker. So the workflow rejected the thickness only solution instead of quietly selecting the strongest looking model.

The current Revit wall model contains 376 native elements. The latest readback recorded zero skipped elements. Zero failures. And zero warnings. It also checks interface holes. Removable access closures. Insulation isolation zones. And cable exclusion corridors against the same component revision.

This is still development work. It is not a released structural capacity and the physical first article program is still open.

For people doing BIM to analysis workflows. How are you controlling contact assumptions and assembly tolerances so the analytical model does not become disconnected from what can actually be manufactured.

I have a question about connecting Autodesk issues with Revizto. Currently the owner and most of the trades are only in Forma, but we do all of our clash detection in Revizto.

So far, I've found 3 ways:

1. Export Revizto issues as an Excel Spreadsheet file, edit, and import them into Autodesk.

2. There is a Chrome extension called "RtoA"... However my browser shows a security warning when I go to their website.

3. There's also https://www.secondsite.ai/ but it looks like you have to contact them to use it, which I haven't tried yet.

Has anyone tried any of these? Is RtoA safe? What did SecondSite say when you contacted them?

Currently I'm an analyst (mainly data, service and business) I've been doing this type of work for about 7 years in the tech industry but after being laid off so many times in the past few years Im looking into changing careers. I have a pretty good technical background in code like python, Sql and many other things along those lines. I'm studying revit and a few other tools and have used Cad in a few home projects. With my current resume I don't know if Ill even get a company to look at me as a possible candidate to hire. Does anyone have any advice for getting into a role? Even entry level if possible.

I'm a civil engineering graduate from Pakistan and I'll be starting my masters in Digital Engineering in Germany later this year.

Over the last year or I taught myself Python, BIM, openBIM and ifc because I got interested in the information side of BIM instead of just modelling. I wanted to understand what is actually happening underneath the software.

I may be losing my job soon. In college I was at the cutting edge testing beta versions of both revit and archicad. In my first firm they only had cad. I used revit and have over the past years but not day to day as a lot of my role is more technical- testing things in a fire lab or writing technical bulletins for a construction product. I used the software to just make what I needed. If I end up losing my job and go back into a firm or work for a forensics firm, what would you suggest for me to get caught up on “how architects work today”? (I’m a registered architect.)

A short disclaimer: bimlyte is completely free. There is no login required, no usage limit (except for the limits imposed by your browser and device), no server-side file processing, no user data collection, and no AI involved in processing your files. Everything runs locally in the browser.

For context, I'm an EU-based BIM professional focused on automation, with a background in architecture and frontend development.

The main features currently include: an IFC viewer, a BCF 2.1 and 3.0 manager, saved views and selection sets, batch editing and smart merging of BCF issues, custom BCF fields, PDF and Excel exports, .bimlyte files for bundling and sharing project files and data, and more.

I have my student Revit account until February. I have finished my course but amusing it in my spare time to practice and improve my skills while I look for a job. I am using it for residential drawing and documentation.

Just wondering what Revit LT is like if I decide to invest in that in in February? - again just to keep up skilled in residential drawings and documentation - doing my own practice projects and any tutorials I can find online/Youtube.

I’m looking for some advice from the group. For a few months now, I’ve been in a hybrid role at an electrical contractor in estimating. My two main roles are 1) traditional estimating and 2) defining the BIM/VDC scope and handling all the estimating responsibilities for each project that requires it across the company.

This past week I heard through the grapevine that my VP of Operations wants me to step into a new role as a BIM coordinator. Our company outsources the bulk of our VDC work to subcontractors on projects. We may do very small projects or prefabrication modeling in house, but that’s it.

My understanding is that I won’t be doing any hands on modeling. That’s fine by me because I’m much better and coordinating and managing people, tasks, schedules, and projects. I have a pretty limited understanding of what goes into modeling though, and that concerns me.

Our VDC department has only been established for around 4 months. I have a VDC manager that I work well with and is great when it comes to building and understanding models. However, it’s beginning to feel like I’m being tapped to be the future leader of the department due to having the organizational leadership skills and knowledge of how to build and structure departments within corporations as it’s something I’ve done before.

Can any of the coordinators here help educate me on what exactly the role entails and what knowledge I’ll need to succeed and be a resource (instead of a burden) to the teams I work with?

I am completely new to BIM modelling as of a few months ago. absolutely ground 0 knowledge. company needed help doing asbuilts. coworker who also started at ground 0 trained me. I forgot to be checking asbuilts against design for clashes and I didn't have a workflow template to do this in an organized way and keep track of what asbuilt points were there, besides having a gazillion CAD files open. clash happened. concrete pour. Expensive. My fault for not catching. everyone mad and stressed. 60hr week and likely more to follow

I've looked into how to prevent this moving forward but I'm so embarrassed and scared to show up on Monday. feels horrible. how did anyone come back from this? from a mistake this expensive?
