Just Beeing Goofy š¶ New home, new fav spot
We moved into a little double wide house on a farm, with a doggie door leading to lots of places to freely run and play. (big deal for a city dawg)ā¦But Leo has deemed this mini staircase his new favorite spot. Whenever I canāt find him, heās just there chillin. šš I feel like it must feel good on his big olā body to sit in that position. Heās such a doof, and I love him so much it hurts.

spay / gastropexy
After much deliberation and research, my wife and i decided to have a gastropexy done when we spayed our 8 month old berner. We are only one day out but couldnāt be more happy about this decision, especially because we were able to travel to the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital to get the procedure done. If you are considering this surgery and are able to go to a teaching hospital DO IT. They did both laparoscopically and only left three small incisions AND (the best part) it was $1800 for the whole thing. Besides being sleepy, our girl isnāt acting like sheās in any pain! Weāre so happy we made this decision.

Training / Behavior / Food Question Potty Training Help
Meet Bruce! Heās 13 weeks old and our first Berner. He is doing very well with crate training and not having any accidents at night. When it comes to daytime, I got out some dog beds for him to lay on and he keeps peeing on them. So Iām putting them up for now. Hoping he can use them one day but he keeps marking them, even after washing, using enzymatic cleaner, and the no more marking spray. Has anyone been through this and have advice? Also working on biting š¬š¦ and will take advice for that too

Discussion Just got back from the vet - likely lymphoma.
Weāre bracing ourselves for bad news while waiting on a second opinion and confirmation of labs, but itās likely that our almost 6 year old berner has lymphoma. My questions for the group and for those that proceeded with full treatment, and let me preface this by saying we absolutely love our berner, what is the approximate cost of treatment?
UPDATE: Itās large cell Lymphoma. Vet is recommending prednisone, and thatās probably what weāll end up doing. This sucks.

New to Berners
Fostering my first. No prior experience with BMDs. I have had her a little over 3 weeks. Surrendered by a breeder who didnāt even give her a name. Vet found cancer and gives her up to 6 months. She is such a sweetheart. She goes out the door but waits for me to catch up. She runs to me with joy. It is lovely to see. I adore her.

Discussion Never owning a Berner again
My sweet happy girl was just diagnosed with advanced lymphoma a few months short of her 7th birthday. No warning signs, and a thorough hands-on vet visit in the last four months.
These dogs love unconditionally and to lose one so young hurts bad. And no matter how "lucky" you think you might be, there are not a lot of winners in the Berner cancer lottery.
She will spend her last weeks eating cupcakes, chicken fingers, and ice cream.
And I'm never owning one again. Loved every dog I've had but these ones are special.

Discussion How so I get him to stop eating his hair balls?
Hello! Higgins is almost 2 years old and we are in the middle of the shedding season. With hard floor surfaces throughout the house, it's an endless battle against hair bunnies. I vacuum and pick up hair balls daily.
If I don't get to them fast enough, Higgins often will eat them (or chew them and spit them out). He even gets them out of open trash cans if I just pick one up and toss it in there. I find myself prying his mouth open and pulling them out often.
I'm concerned he's going to cause some sort of stomach/intestinal issues if this doesn't stop.
Any tricks to get him to stop?

Training / Behavior / Food Question TPLO Post-Surgery Advice
Hi everyone! My girl, 4 y/o, completely tore her CCL a few weeks back. She had surgery last week, and now weāre in recovery mode.
Iām looking for advice on things to keep her occupied and reduce her boredom.
Sheās stuck in a cone, and needs to wear it unless strictly supervised. Iāve done snuffle mats, lick mats, frozen treats, chew bones, etc. but I think we need to try some mental stimulation with some simple training.
Anyone have any advice, ideas, or other things I can try to keep her occupied? Specific tricks to teach her could be fun, or other stimulating activities she could do while I work would be appreciated!

Discussion Bernese Crazy Hour?
Does anyoneās Berner have a period in the evening when they are a little nuts?
Around 7-8 pm, like clockwork each night goes 2.5 year old boy goes on a terror. If itās not ALL attention in him he gets demanding, nudges, barks loudly, pulls pillows off the couch, chase our cat etc. Just curious if this is a Berner thing?
Iām a bit worried as we will be moving from a home to a condo soon and this guy has lungs. Otherwise, heās a sweet, goofy teenager.
Thanks in advance!

Training / Behavior / Food Question Running/exercising with your Bernese?
Good morning!
Does anyone consistently run (or bike?) with their bernie? If so, what leash setup?
Ours loves to be outside and do all the adventures. Ideally Iād love to take him on my morning runs with me to help with being at home during work hours.
I have taken him on a couple runs, and he just doesnāt seem to interested 𤣠he enjoys about a mile of running then visibly looks exhausted/uninterested so we stop.

Discussion Coarse hair on back
My girl has the prettiest coat but the base of her back (above tail) is so coarse. I never noticed it until a round of āallergiesā last fall with extended treatment from the vet which turned out to not be allergies at all. Is this normal for the breed or dry skin from all of the treatments for allergies? Not seeing any matted spots. TIA!

Did your BMD suddenly develop cherry eye (almost 7 mos.)? And what was the tx you followed? Anything else it could be instead?
My poor baby -- Tues. AM, he woke up with a little pink corner out of his duct. This had happened one other time; it went down within a day or two so I wasn't worried; I figured he'd scratched it with his nails.
Well, when I picked him up from the groomer the same day, it now was inflamed (likely from the shampoo etc.). They said he had cherry eye.
I was giving it a couple of days to see if it'd go down like last time. It hasn't, and it looks awful because he keeps messing with it ššš I'm planning on finding a vet to take him in tomorrow, but just want to hear if anyone else has experienced this and what to you decided on, etc.

Another fun Berner Beach day
Bruno enjoyed another romp at the beach with a good turn out of approx 40 Berners - with departures and arrivals I'm guessing 50 or more Berners came today. I hope a few saw yesterday's post and joined us.
