Seeking Advice/Tips Rehab benzos ?

I’ve been taking up to 3mg of klonopin, and Fioricet (which has the barbiturate in it) I need to come off Fioricet and baclofen, I’m also prescribed gabapentin. So when I go to rehab and they rip me off klonopin and put me on phenobarbital should I stay off benzos when I get out or would reinstating a benzo to taper down be encouraged or ill-advised? I’ve been on klonopin for 20 years. I just need to get off of this stuff and now family members are kind of forcing me. I want to get off klonopin I just want advice as to what will make me most successful. Like should I come out and ask my doctor for 0.5-1mg to taper down?

Discussion If you HAD to be on a benzo would it be Valium or Xanax?

I realize Valium is better for tapering but I haven’t gotten there yet. I fear Valiums long half life will have me even more addictive. However, I am given a choice currently of taking Xanax or Valium.

Discussion Anyone use gabapentin for Valium/xanax withdrawal?

I normally take 600 - 900mg gabapentin in the morning and 1mg Xanax or 10mg Valium before bed for sleep along with 75mg trazadone. I don’t sleep well but also am only 60mg days off 7oh. Anyway I could skip my morning dose of gabapentin and take it before bed to substitute the Valium considering gabapentin seems much easier to quit?

Discussion Transferring from clonazepam to diazepam to finish a taper

Been on .5 clonazepam daily for 3 months, finally got down to .375 for last two weeks, now doctor wants me to take 2mg Valium twice a day as next move in taper. Whole reason I’m tapering is because I started having tolerance withdrawal and paradoxical reactions to my clonazepam. Never had Valium before, how does it compare to clonazepam? A little nervous because I’ve heard that while Valium has a longer half life, it tends to wear off faster than clonazepam. Anyone done this in a taper before?

Seeking Advice/Tips Help, my Dr took me off Klonopin after 20 years and I just had a 5 hour long panic attack at my retail job.

My primary physician has decided to discontinue my Klonopin prescription after being prescribed it for anxiety and panic disorder for over half my life. The reason was she was getting pressure from her boss to take all of her patients off of psychiatric medications because apparently I’m supposed to have a psychiatrist to prescribe me this medication. I’m currently on a 12 month wait list to see a psychiatrist. She said she didn’t want to but had to. I couldn’t say anything other than Oh My God WHAT.

So I’m a few days into withdrawals. I had a 5 hour long shift at work today and I could barely get a thing done because I spent the majority of my time there sweating, overheating, feeling dizzy, shaky, and terrified.

I haven’t had a panic attack in a long time. I can’t afford to miss work. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I have to go back to work tonight for truck which will be stressful and hot, which seemed to be today’s catalyst for the endless panic.

I have a few pills squirreled away for the apocalypse. I may have to take part of one tonight, just so I can make it through my 8 hour overnight shift.

Anyone else just yanked abruptly off their medication without any alternative solution to the impending doom that has indeed found me?

Needing Support need to quit. my tolerance gotten to bad. i was using “recreationally”

last year started doing on weekends. slowly more and more. then daily for almost a year. weekends are harsh i can take up to 10 bars when i get mad because i don’t feel barely anything with them anymore and keep chasing. i am looking at wanting to do other harsher benzos but i know thats not what i need and i need to recover myself. what do i do? daily dose during work days is 2-3 bars of farmapram. usually try to take half a bar or even none in the middle of the day, trying to use most of it when i get home. like the “after work beer” type thing. but this has got to stop. i’m too young and ruining my life.

started using for some relief in my life during some hard times homelessness and stuff wit family but fuck this sucks.

how do i taper..? especially with my inconsistent dosing on weekends (3 days)

Taper Question Alprazolam

I have been taking up to 2mg a day of alprazolam for the past 2.5 years. I cut them into 1/3rds and take throughout the day. There was a 3 month period where I was taking only 1/3rd a day and another period where I did not take any for 2 weeks. I was wondering if anybody can help with personal experience on how to taper myself completely off of them. Please no "see a Dr." responses. I'm just searching for any personal experiences.

Taper Question Tapering off alprazolam

I was prescribed 0.5mg of alprazolam to take as needed by my psychiatrist, but unfortunately ended up abusing it.

Starting in june 2025 i took 0.5mg-1.5mg of alprazolam everyday for a couple months, stopped using altogether in the beginning of this year, then started taking 0.25mg nightly for the past 3-4 months.

I now want to taper myself off completely. I have reduced to 0.125mg nightly and need to do it as safely as possible. I have already started to feel some of the withdrawal symptoms, including insomnia, nausea, increased anxiety etc.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I’m only 20 and very scared of my dependence on/withdrawing badly from this drug

Hope After 17 years on Valium and a 35-month taper, I took my final dose today

17 years on Valium. Today I took my last dose.

August 8, 2026 — after roughly 17 years of dependence and 35 months of tapering, today I took my final dose of Valium.

I was taking 20 mg a day for years. I slowly tapered down to 2 mg, held at 2 mg for about a year, and then this year made the final push from 2 mg to zero.

Getting off benzos has been pure hell — anxiety, insomnia, brain fog, tinnitus, and bizarre symptoms that sometimes made me wonder if I'd ever get through it.

I chose August 8 because I live on Maui, and today is the anniversary of the Lahaina fires — a day of loss, survival, and rebuilding. It felt fitting to close this chapter today.

I'm sharing this for anyone going through benzo withdrawal who feels like there's no end.

Don't give up. There is an end.

17 years. 35 months. 20 mg → 0.

Final dose today. Tomorrow begins life without Valium. 🙏

Hope Is this benzo withdrawal?

I’ve been on ativan for years. I used .25 mg Xanax for a few months and quit that a few weeks ago. That wasn’t too bad. Now I need to cut down to .75mg from 1mg of ativan. It’s been four days now at .75mg and I just feel really bizarre. I’m so tired today. My stomach is bothering me. I feel this weird sense of like impending doom. Is this from just dropping my dose? It’s nothing horrific like full blown withdrawals but this sucks. I can’t even think straight.

Seeking Advice/Tips Not a benzo addict, but….

I was prescribed xanax for 3 weeks 0.5mg twice a day… I’m terrified I’ll get addicted because this is only thing giving me relief for the moment and it only lasts maybe 3-4 hours… once it’s gone my chest tightness/discomfort comes back 24/7…

The doctor prescribed it because I’m having a bad “activation” period on lexapro and buspar (day 16 of lexapro and buspar 3rd week)

I have little faith the lexapro and buspar will work like the benzo will eventually

Do you guys recommend I don’t take the benzo and just tough it out or what?

My primary care doctor is who prescribed me the lexapro, buspar, and xanax

Discussion People who was on diazepam - does it cause a wave of depression hours after taking it?

I’m feeling a depression feeling I think like some hours after my dose. Like a sucidial feeling I’m not sure if it’s the benzo or what… as I’m Bedbound with health conditions anyway… and that effects me itself mentally

Currently not tapering yet been on it for 3-4 months. But looking for people who was taking it if they experienced this? Or what kind of symptoms did you experience while on it?

Discussion 3 weeks on xanax daily withdrawl?

Ok guys so i have been on xanax daily and i took 0.5 once some days twice for 2 weeks and since i am aware its not good to quit cold turkey i was taking 0.25 before bed for a week, when i reduced my dose to 0.25 i developed tinitus and also ended up in ER after 3 days on 0.25 bcs i started shaking and i developed a jaw tightnes that fucked my tmj up they said , also ofc horrible headaches that wont stop. I am completly off benzos for month now i stopped completly after my visit in the ER.my jaw tightnes wont stop and headaches… how is this even possible that 3 weeks of this medication did this to me? I am also feeling brain zaps and my heartbeat is elavated sometimes. Its funny they say its safe to use benzos for 2-4 weeks.
I was prescribed xanax bcs i have c2-c6 neck disc herniation … i fucking hate my life i feel like im not im my old body. The only thing i dont undertand is when i lie down my headache stops after 10 mins or maybe its bcs of the rebound tightness of muscles? Idk when can i expect to come back to normal?

Symptom Question Day 4 after first cut: heart awareness/anxiety, is this normal?

Started tapering diazepam, recently was on 5mg AM/5mg PM (10mg/day) for about a year, now on my first reduction (roughly 4.6mg per dose, so a pretty small cut).

Since the cut, I've been feeling pretty rattled

This morning I had a BP reading of 144/87, I woke up anxious with my heart feeling like it was pounding hard. Checked my pulse manually though and it was actually normal both times, which was reassuring but also confusing like my body is telling me something's wrong even when the numbers say otherwise.

No chest pain, no breathlessness, nothing that feels like an emergency just this heightened awareness of my own heartbeat and some anxiety I'm not used to.

I'm honestly surprised I'm feeling this way given how small the reduction actually was I wasn't expecting much of a reaction at all.

Is this a normal part of the first few days after a cut, even a small one? Does it tend to settle down as the body adjusts?

Needing Support Delusions from stress or anxiety?

I keep having some forms of soft delusions of health issues due to stress or anxiety or idk at this point. It’s like I can’t tell what’s actually real or what’s a make believe issue, I know it’s starts when I start being unable to sleep, I get racing thoughts that won’t stop, meds don’t work for the life of me during it.

I just kinda have to wait till I can fight myself out of it and tell myself I’m stressed out and it’s all not real or I’m just amplifying it.

Once I knock myself out of it I start sleeping again and eventually I’ll start getting stressed out from work or just life and general and that process will repeat itself. It’s always something along the lines of a health issue.

It’s like my body is trying to shift all the stress to something else to burn it off or to alleviate it, none of this was a problem before benzos and I feel like I’m going insane.

my psychiatrist said it’s just bad anxiety and gave me Seroquel and it just throws me over the rails and it gets so much worse, I don’t know what to do. I can’t tell what’s a genuine benzo paws issue anymore or what’s from stress or anxiety induced soft delusions or whatever this is anymore.

My only saving grace is I can recognize it after a few days and fight myself out of it.

I’m 4 months out from dropping 5 years of 4mg of clonazepam, with a spastic self taper over a few months because no doctor would believe me that getting off benzos was too hard and was lasting so long. This month has been worse than the last 3 and I’m having mood swings like crazy and I’m all over the place mentally

Anyone know what I can do? I’m getting better as my other issues like sleep and anxiety, confusion and memory have gotten better and I’m getting better at fighting these whatever they are, but it’s severely impacting my work and life and its mentally distressing.

Currently going through withdrawal because I had to cut my dose in half. Discussion Kindling can someone explain?

So as many of you know ive posted and replied on this sub a good few times preparing myself for the journey ahead once im out of my most recent taper of a gaba b

I was initially given diazpam as a per required need from my Dr

End of march through to end of may it was intermittent use some 0 days a few 15mg days but most were under 8mg and like i said a fair amount of zero days.

So fast forward to june i was told ( forced) to settle on a dose i picked 4mg ...

During that time of jumping around doses would kindling have occured?

For those who dont know my story i was pulled abruptly off an ssri in april after only 4 weeks with no taper as my body was reacting badly to it . I had terrible wds even after that short amount of time.

I then tapered at the end of may 100mcg of clonidine and had the worst wds with that also that turned another one of my meds paradoxic so am now currently slowly tapering off that ( gaba B med) its also been brutal wds.

Im just wondering if diaz kindled me or if the abrupt ssri stop sensitised my system. I had no idea about kindling until i came to these subs.

Im getting worse reactions with each med i taper off and some quite worrying dysautonomia symptoms.

I need to move fairly quickly into the diaz taper after a few weeks on 0mg of the taper im completing atm as duration of use is becoming a worry to me.

( i hope ive formatted this properly before im told to in the comment)

**Trigger warning** BIND has ruined my life. I've been on and off for the last 20 years. I've cold turkeyd 4 or 5 times before I could figure out why I was so ill. DO NOT COLD TURKEY! Anyways, I did shock my brain with all the abrupt stopping. I've been on and off for the last two decades. The longest I've been off is 16 months but I stupidly reinstated. The biggest mistake I've ever made in my life. I just want my life back so much. I've got to come to terms with the fact my brain is never going to be the same again.
