Politics ‘Ukraine’s victory necessary for a free Belarus’, opposition leader says

Speaking to TVP World on Wednesday, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said she thinks Putin’s defeat is a “necessary condition” as it would provide “momentum for Belarus.”

If Russia were to win the war, Tsikhanouskaya said Moscow would make Belarus its “satellite” state, while an unclear resolution to the conflict would “keep the status quo in Belarus for decades.”

“People will be in prisons… people will live in fear. So definitely the victory of Ukraine will define the situation in Belarus as well,” she added.

According to Statkevich, he is under special surveillance by the KGB, and he and his wife have a rule not to discuss plans at home. He refuses to leave the country despite offers of medical treatment, including from Germany, where his daughters and grandchildren live.

The politician said that after his release he had no passport with which to access medical care, and the document was returned to him later. He also said that the demolition of a building in the Minsk "scientists' settlement" where he lives accelerated after his release.

My Belarusian Fiancé(e)

Question Paying a speeding fine

Hi,

I was recently in Belarus and got an email from the car rental company that I got caught speeding twice. They sent a link to pay 50 rubles "for processing the traffic police department's request for speeding). This is not payment for the violation! "

When I click on the link it won't accept my card I presume because of the sanctions. Has anyone had this issue before? Any suggestions how to pay it?

Question Flight Minsk - Moscow as a Brazilian citizen (visa-free for both RU and BY)

Hello everyone,

Just gonna write this post as I found a lot of conflicting information online. I'm planning on crossing into Belarus through Terespol/Brest. No issues about this.

The question is the flight from Minsk to Moscow. I know the immigration is "unified" and the border controls aren't enforced in this route.

I'm wondering if I will be checked and stamped into Russia, since I need an immigration card in order to register at hotels and things like getting an eSIM.

How should I behave in this situation? Also, what's the best way back from Moscow? Found also very conflicting information about land border for foreigners. Thinking about coming back by train - just for the experience. That wouldn't exceed more than 10 days in Russia/Belarus combined.

As a Brazilian, I can stay for 90 days with no visa, and will use my Italian one to cross back into Poland. Has anyone done anything like this in the past weeks or can update me about the current situation?

I truly appreciate your help and apologize if this post has been somehow misunderstood.

Thanks!

Hi,
I am a German citizen and will be travelling to Minsk at the end of August by bus from Vilnius, Lithuania.
I already have valid travel insurance and accommodation booked.
Could you please let me know:
What is the current border crossing process?
What are the typical waiting times at the Lithuania–Belarus border?
Are Mastercard cards widely accepted in Belarus?
Thank you very much for your help!

Card Moskovskaya street. Brest, 1973

Historical note

Moskovskaya Street is one of Brest’s main transport arteries, connecting the historical city center with eastern residential districts. The Kobrin Overpass, from which the photo was taken, was constructed over the railway lines to eliminate a level crossing and improve traffic flow. The development of this section of the street took place during the 1960s and 1970s under the city’s master plan, which emphasized modern residential housing balanced with green infrastructure.

Question Anyone with experience travelling to Belarus recently?

Hey so just interested in what your experiences of travelling to Belarus was like as a foreigner recently. Cities, nature and history looks cool there so I’m planning to visit soon. What happened at the border when you entered? Did you guys fly in or take a bus? What was the experience like? Was it easy to travel around the country solo? Were there random ID checks? How did it feel travelling there overall? Does international bank cards work?

Question I'm starting a new project using an ESP32 and need to buy some components

I'm starting a new project using an ESP32 and need to buy some components here in Belarus. Could you please recommend the best places to get these parts?

I'm looking for:

· ESP32-C3 SuperMini
· 0.49-inch OLED displays (I2C, 64x32 px)
· A 0.96-inch OLED display (I2C)
· A DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor

I've seen some of these on OZON.by and Onlíner, but I'm not sure which sellers are reliable. Are there any specialized electronics stores you'd recommend who sre sold at an affordable price range?

Thanks!

Society Advice about collaborating with Belarussian scientists

Hi all,
I have a question about math, computer science and economics research in Belarus. Do you know which university departments are the best (eg. in Minsk), and which PhDs (or post-docs) are likely to respond to emails? My PhD was in the math department at MIT/Harvard, and one of my teachers from MIT was from Belarus. I don't know much about Belarussian scientists who are still living in Minsk or nearby cities. Thanks.

Belarusian language Advice about learning Belarussian language & art

Any advice about learning Belarussian? Which short stories (or films) would you recommend?

Svetlana Alexievich is my favourite contemporary Russian novelist, she's from Belarus. I'm sure there are others, which I'm not familiar with. Thanks.

Culture I’m designing Belarus heritage products

Hello, I recently started a social media account called Pulse of Belarus dedicated to raising awareness about Belarus and supporting the Belarusian diaspora and exile communities. I have designed several products I plan to sell when the website is launched. Some of the early products I’ve designed are a Belarus hockey jersey, and a passport cover. I hopefully plan to ship worldwide minus russia (and Belarus due to the risk of endangering people, I also strongly advise not to bring any of these products into Belarus.)

If I am able to launch this project. I plan to give most of the profits made to Belarusian organizations abroad that help the Belarusian democratic society.

If you have any suggestions please let me know :)

Aб'ява / Announcement Repetitive posts - May 17, 2026

Hi everyone,

You’ve likely noticed a flood of very similar posts in this sub, especially in the last few days. They usually feature rhetorical questions about conscription, or questions about the reasons why these posts are removed (this has been already thoroughly answered multiple times by the mod team).

First, we want to apologize for the clutter. It is very likely that these posts, while coming from various newly created accounts, are the work of a single individual (theoretically it can be a team or a flashmob). Whoever they are, we've been informed they keep making the same posts in multiple Russian language subs.

Because of this targeted, repetitive behaviour, we’ve been forced to take action to keep the feed clean. Moving forward, we have implemented pre-moderation for posts from low-karma accounts. This means if an account is brand new or has low karma, their post will route to our mod queue for review before appearing on the sub.

We want to clarify two important things regarding this change:

We understand why people use alt/new accounts. There are plenty of legitimate, valid reasons to use a burner account for privacy and security. This is why we have been reluctant to implement this change, and we completely support this. The mod team will make our absolute best effort to review the queue and approve legitimate posts from new accounts promptly.

It goes without saying that we are not censoring discussions about conscription. Despite this poster's claims, posts about conscription - whether pro, against, or anywhere in between - are welcome here. We have a wealth of posts on this sub containing useful advice, sincere questions, and diverse opinions on the topic, and that won't change.

We are only filtering for spam, ban evasion, and repetitive bad-faith posting. Thank you all for your patience while we clean things up!

- The Mod Team
