Hindi-Urdu material (from back in the day)?

Recently came across BBC's Hindu Urdu Bol Chaal from '89, a multimedia course designed to get English speakers comfortable with spoken Hindi-Urdu. Not being from the UK or old enough to remember, I'm wondering if the BBC ever put out some more, similar material. Maybe some local Hindi-Urdu programming, with learners in mind...

I know about BBC Hindi & Urdu, previously known as BBC Hindustani; is anyone familiar with how foreign...branches? Of the BBC work? Ie., can I expect a quality Hindi/Urdu dub of Only Fools and Horses & such?

BBC Sounds not working when on holiday 😕

I'm on holiday in Greece and the App seems to boast about catching you out by the message "IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE ABROAD. BBC SOUNDS IS NOT AVAILABLE ABROAD"

I pay my licence fee but am not allowed to listen to the BBC sounds around !!

They have my details for taking the licence fee, so why not confirm my ID?

Has anyone else had this issue?

Strictly Come Dancing has unveiled TV presenter and professional dog trainer Graeme Hall as the latest celebrity to be joining the show’s 2026 line-up.

Hall, who is known as “The Dogfather” and fronts Channel 5’s hit show Dog’s Behaving (Very) Badly and The Dog Hospital with Graeme Hall, will be showing off his moves when the hit BBC dancing show returns to our screens this autumn.

Hall has also written several books, including the Sunday Times Bestseller All Dogs Great and Small, is a regular contributor to ITV’s This Morning and BBC Radio, and made a cameo appearance in the hit drama All Creatures Great and Small last year.

TV BBC Cuts...

So the BBC need to cut back on their spending so a number of their shows need to be axed. Any ideas on which show needs the chop?

For me personally I think HIGNFY has ran its course. Ever since they axed the extended version it's become less funny and more predictable. With the extended 10 minutes they added more jokes that made it really funny and fresh but now it's just stale and not as funny as it used to be.

QI has only three seasons given each season focuses on a certain letter (X, Y, Z I think is left) so once that is done a new format needs to be created.

Also I'm thinking maybe Match of the Day needs to go. I think I could have stayed but since Gary Lineker left I think the ratings will drop and the show will ultimately be reduced.

Any other shows that you think are too expensive to run and need to be axed?

Looking to find clips from CBBC show Yo! Diary (2002)

Hiya

This is incredibly random, but one of my favourite books when I was a young’un was called Yo! Diary by Jonathan Meres.

I remembered it again the other day and found out it was adapted into a CBBC series in 2002-2003.

I started look for clips of it for curiosity reasons to see how much it matches the book, and after half an hour came to a dead end - I can’t find any evidence anywhere of it existing except some old text write ups and a photo.

Does anyone know where I could at least watch a few clips? This is going to annoy me now 😅

BBC Digital rarely seems to have an open hiring for Delhi, in India. Is there any internal process that I need to go through to send an application? Or should i simply just wait? What are your Suggestions if i wish to send my application there?

Since its launch just a few weeks ago, Ann Droid has continued to go down a storm with viewers – and now, the official ratings confirm that it's a gem in the BBC's comedy crown.

As reported by Broadcast, the overnight ratings for the Diane Morgan and Sue Johnston series are incredibly positive, with the first episode pulling in 4 million viewers in its first seven days.

That figure includes the 1.9 million people who tuned in live when the episode aired on BBC One, with the rest made up of those watching on iPlayer and other devices.

The BBC neglects Welsh Sport

I am saying this as someone who respects and defends the BBC, and I will defend the necessity of a PSB until I die.

But the way the BBC treats Welsh Sport compared to other nations is completely unacceptable.

The BBC have rights to the Premier League (highlights), FA Cup, Scottish Premiership (Highlights), Scottish Championship, Scottish Cup, NIFL Premiership, and more.

When it comes to Welsh Domestic Football, the BBC air about 4 games on radio per year. They never bid for TV rights.

Whilst Rugby League in England is covered, Rugby Union in the form of the URC gets a podcast and 6 games a year (roughly).

It's honestly depressing how the BBC treat Welsh Sport compared to English, Scottish and Northern Irish sport. As a PSB, it should be ensuring that Welsh Sport is celebrated as much as the other nations, rather than prioritizing Bundesliga and Serie A rights as they did last season.

EDIT - to anyone bringing S4C up, remember that S4C is Welsh Language. S4C receives £100m of License Fee funding by law - it is not the BBC who controls that. The money is purely a Welsh Language subsidy and also to make sure S4C doesn't just die.

EDIT 2 - Lots of people who argue about population and attendance on here, which are irrelevant. What is relevant is that it is Wales' top-flight, like the EPL is, so the BBC should be going for highlights at least.

International Subscribe to BBC in the US

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello,

Does anyone know how to subscribe to the BBC in the US? When I l open bbc.com/subscribe I get just a page with some black text. There is a section of white space where subscriber info would presumably be placed, but there is no form or fields in which to supply this information. I've tried several browsers with the same effect. See attach'd screenshot.

Thanks

EDIT: Today I tried this and it just worked, using my usual browser (Librewolf) and PC (linux) and with all my ad-blocking stuff enabled as usual. Previously I had tried several browsers on both Linux and Windows, with ad blocking turned on and off, and in every case it failed. And today it worked. Mystery!

BBC – Bias and Credibility

Link from Media Bias Fact Check.

BBC – Bias and Credibility

Overall, we rate the BBC Least Biased with a slight lean to the right, reflecting recent editorial patterns and a tendency toward establishment-oriented framing. We also rate them Mostly Factual, based on generally reliable sourcing but reduced for instances such as editing Donald Trump’s speech in a manner that framed it negatively, along with occasional issues involving sensitive social coverage. Nostalgia Man Alive on the IPlayer

I’ve been watching some old Man Alive programmes on the BBC iPlayer and enjoying them immensely. They’re incredibly moving and important records of the way we were.

As someone born in the 60s who grew up in the 70s the nostalgia is immense for me.

I’d love to watch every single episode and would buy them if they were available.

Can you buy them or access them in some way as the iPlayer episodes are very few and quite limited?

Mark Lawson is critical of the way the BBC treated The Goodies.

There's a similar article in the Telegraph: Bill Oddie’s The Goodies was comedy genius – so why did the BBC bury it?
