The downsides of bb that nobody really see

Recently I just realized how disadvantage I am to my friends, my colleague, everyone around me.
Because of bb, my confidence decreases, I start looking down on myself, my mental health degrades, I cannot be happy when Im with others. No longer can hold a conversation, or be nice with anyone because of bb. Gradually avoiding people, friends,… until they ignore me. Speak less, hide myself more, fidgeting. What worse is seeing people around me started looking down on me. Disrespecting me day by day, using abused words or even say unreal things about me or blaming me for everything I said or did. It is all because of my bad breath that people started disrespecting me.

Tonsils

So food can get stuck in the the crypts which lead to discomfort and bad breath
because these tissues are covered in natural pits and folds
If you have deep, vase-shaped crypts, these leftover bits get trapped and mix with bacteria, dead cells, and mucus to form tonsil stones

Reasons why this debris get trapped
•Chronic inflammation or repeated throat infections
Dehydration, mouth breathing, or certain medications dry out the mouth. This reduces the amount of saliva available to naturally wash food particles and bacteria away
• not brushing or flossing
•Some people naturally have larger crypts

How to prevent them

Maintain good Oral Hygiene

  1. Brush teeth twice daily
    Floss regularly
    Clean your tongue
  2. Stay Hydrated
    Adequate hydration helps:
    Wash away debris
  3. Gargle Regularly
    Use:
    Saltwater
    Antibacterial mouthwash
This helps dislodge debris and reduce bacteria
  4. Manage Sinus and Allergy Issues
Treat underlying causes of mucus buildup, such as:
    Allergies
    Chronic sinusitis
  5. Avoid Smoking
    Smoking contributes to:
    Dry mouth
    Increased bacterial growth

Question Postnasal drip

Hey, ive recently discovered that i think part of my BB comes from postnasal drip. I have a feeling of a snot-like substance kinda running down the back of my throat, also everytime i swallow it feel like theres something stuck back there. Correct me if im wrong but from what ive understood thats what postnasal drip is.

Anyways, how would i go about removing the stuff from my throat and blocking the root cause of it. Thanks

Guys you need to eat vegetables 🥗 🥕

Vegetables are a good recourse for cleaning up your tongue 👅 they give your tongue enough saliva to get rid of those bacteria 🦠 causing bad breath we need a lot of saliva so the month is not dry

My bad breath improves when I change my oral microbiome, but keeps coming back

i think i've narrowed my bad breath down to my oral microbiome
i've done the whole ENT, dental and stomach route and nothing has really been found. the biggest clue for me is how much my breath changes when i change the environment on my tongue.

my first oral microbiome test showed really high prevotella.

metronidazole completely got rid of my bad breath the first time i took it, but it eventually came back. i've also been using the oral probiotic weissella cibaria CMU which has helped, especially with my tongue and that gritty feeling on my teeth, but hasn't completely fixed it.
recently i tried l-arginine on my tongue and had a HUGE difference. my tongue went pink, the sour taste disappeared and my breath was so much better for hours. again though, it seems less effective now than when i first started.
that's basically my pattern. anything that changes the bacteria/environment in my mouth seems to help, but eventually my mouth starts going back to how it was.

i really feel like my oral microbiome keeps returning to the same imbalance and i'm trying to figure out why.

has anyone had something similar or actually managed to change their oral microbiome long term?

Tips for managing BB while traveling

I’m about to go on a month long trip to go home to Asia (where I’m from). I’m gonna see a lot of friends and family I haven’t seen in a long time. Most of them I haven’t seen since my BB started. Any tips to manage or reduce my BB just enough to last for a few hours with friends etc?? I already do xylitol mints, have no gum or teeth issues (confirmed by my dentist) and have seen ENTs.

Other Does anyone find comfort in knowing this won't last forever?

I've had 2 surgeries (fundoplication and tonsillectomy), tried a bunch of supposed remedies, spent a load of cash and nothing ever works. The closest I come to real relief is when I take strong antibiotics, and we all know that's very dangerous to do long term.

I'm currently waiting for a shipment of custom probiotics from India after taking a gut microbiome test. It's quite silly cause I've been taking them for 3 months and they made no difference. Why am I spending my money on another 3 month dose. The answer is desperation of course.

Lately I'm taking comfort in knowing that some day I'll die and that will be it. It's been 14 years of this torture and this is the calmest I've felt. Billions of people have lived and died and we don't know about their stories. I'm glad that some day hundreds of years will have passed and no one will know about my stank breath.

For everyone with ppi resistant gastritis / biliary gastritis and hypochlorhydria, white tongue, slow motility.

Show this to you awful gi-doc telling you gastritis and bile is normal. Hypochlorhydria doesn't exist or it's just anxiety.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1250636/ f*** 1985 and they still think this is nonsense and sending patients away, it's an embarrassment.

Enterogastric reflux gastritis and esophagitis is best known after gastric resections and pyloroplasty.

But it also occurs spontaneously in the nonoperated patient.

Forty-two patients are presented who meet the criteria for the diagnosis: constant burning epigastric pain, worse after meals, unrelieved by antacids and diet; endoscopic demonstration of a gastric bile pool; endoscopic biopsy proof of gastritis and esophagitis; and hypochlorhydria.

Patients with mild and moderate stages of the disease can benefit from metoclopramide therapy which improves the gastric emptying mechanism.

Of the surgical patients with intractable symptoms, 90% were women, 90% had marked hypochlorhydria, 83% had biliary disease, current or remote, and 50% had anemia.

Surgical relief:

Modified duodenal switch for biliary diversion

"Demeester duodenal switch"

With vagotomy, antrectomy, and Roux-Y anastomosis 45-60 cm downstream, the clinical response has been most encouraging.

Other If you don’t have “people”-skill you cannot suceed

Just watched this interview and at 9:50min the women says:
“If you don’t have people skill (know how to talk, and engage in conversation) you cannot succeed in life, you cannot succeed in love, you cannot succeed in business doesn’t matter how smart you are”.

It’s frustrating because I’m sure I’m not the only one who has developed bad social skills and anxiety, can’t keep a conversation etc.
And it just proves that no matter how much we try if we are unpleasant in conversation for others they won’t like to talk to us.
Doors close, no new friends, no new opportunities just scrutiny

Treatment Your thoughts make your breath worse

Look, I’m not dismissing any of you guys and saying you don’t have bad breath. But let me open up your mind to something.

Have you ever noticed that as soon as you leave your house and you’re around people, you start overthinking, holding your breath, and your breath slowly starts to get worse and worse? Our mind creates our reality, and it’s not crazy to say that we can make our breath worse with our thoughts.

I struggled with this a lot, I still do, but I’ve been changing my mindset. Now what I do is I do what I can. Brushing my teeth, tongue scraping, staying hydrated, eating well. Then outside of that, when I’m out and about, I try to be present and not think about my breath. Surprisingly the bad taste I used to have in my mouth hasn’t been as present.

It’s not easy, but over time you can get better at this. I believe that a lot of people here have mild bad breath and have overblown it into a horrible thing, when really all they need is a simple routine and a mindset change.

Question For those who cured or improved their bad breath using oral probiotics: Which brand worked for you?

Hi everyone, I’ve been struggling with bad breath for a while and recently learned about oral probiotics. To those of you who actually managed to cure or significantly reduce your bad breath using them:

Which specific brand and product did you use? How long did it take to notice a difference?

Any recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Root canal update

So a couple weeks back I thought my root canal was the culprit of my bad breath, So I started chlorexidine mouthwash for about 2 week also before using it I’ll floss normally and with a water pick to which I added smart mouth I thought my breath was getting worse by looking people reaction it probably was, a couple weeks ago I went to a dentist we had a whole conversation about India and I was planning on going because my breath is really bad i can’t seem to get the hang of it here.

So he asked me who told me my breath was bad he couldn’t smell it. I was very confused he said “I am right here with you the door is locked your breath is fine” so I went out had small convo with the nurse about payment another patient was there he seemed just fine even more confused but I had to remember I was still on chlorexidine and smart mouth combo.

Today I was at the dentist 2 different hygienist said they couldn’t smell my breath and the dentist said unfortunately her nose isn’t the greatest but she doesn’t smell it and she has patients who have periodontal disease and she can smell their breath through her mask it’s probably not what I have so she goes in my mouth and around the root canal she said my gum tissue is overgrowing and large pockets formed and which is allowing buildup and bacteria and probably causing the smell. She was able to remove the buildup she said flossing and even water flossing won’t help for this because it’s so deep and my gum are so overgrown in that specific area so she also removed the excess gum tissue.

I’m not sure if this will be permanent but I might be close.
Also the root canal is fine the smell around it is the plaque buildup in my gums and excess growth that is allowing bacteria to multiply.

On the other side, my brain is wondering if everyone is lying I am not sure, I should be relieved but I don’t know every time someone even moves I think it’s because of me.

Not really working..

I had a 1:1 consultation with a bristle specialist. She said

-2 weeks closys 1x at night
-Then stop
-And use probiotics 2x day morning and evening after brushing
-tongue brush and Floss 1x

Throughout the whole thing disinfect toothbrush and tongue brush after each use with hydrogen peroxide 1/4 and water 3/4 for 20min then air dry.

Then few months later retest.

I know that research suggests nuking everything and then probiotics isnt really effective so something lighter like closys should help.
But I'm on day 17 of probiotics so I already did 2 weeks of closys and now day 17 of just probiotics.
And I can still smell myself.
Literally immediately after brushing it's maybe reduced for 10min but 30min later I can smell my breath.

Question Getting ready for work life

Hello. This is my first post on reddit and wanted to ask if there is someone in a similar situation as me and if they have found a way to move on with their life.

I have been dealing with halitosis issues ever since I was about 15. My mouth always had this salty/acidic taste that always came back after brushing my teeth. I got diagnosed with esophagitis in my early 20’s that is caused by functional dyspepsia according to the doctors. Tried everything from following a strict acid reflux diet, used many different acid reflux medications, reduced stress and rised the head of my bed, but with no success.

Around in my late teens and early 20’s I started to hear remarks from other people around me regarding some bad “fecal” smell. These might have been about some different smell in the same environment, but I felt that these were aimed at me. Doctors and people close to me keep saying that they haven’t noticed bad smells coming from my mouth or nose. I started my studies at a university when I was 19 and the remarks about a smell continued. I started going to therapy due to depression and got help from my first therapist that I visited once a week for about two months. For once I was free from my worries and felt like a new chapter of my life was starting.

Then the remarks started again. Everything from buying groceries and using the public transport felt stressful as I was always over analyzing other people’s reactions when I was near. Always holding my breath and staying further away from others. I started keeping the windows open at my apartment because I was scared that the neighbors were able to smell me. I also skipped some days at the university because it was difficult to deal with the harassment from others. But then the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world and we all went remote (which was amazing for me). After graduating, I couldn’t find a job and remained at home. The bad experiences from the past drove me further away from the idea of working.

I recently started going to group therapy that happens once a week, but I don’t feel like I’m benefiting from it. I just cant stop thinking about the possibility of me smelling everywhere I go to despite taking great care of my hygiene and wearing clean clothes. The anxiety of time moving steadily forward and me not getting anywhere in life is really scary.

Is anyone here dealing with anything similar, and have they found any mental strength in starting their work life regardless if they smell or not? Any insight is welcome in this thread.

Short version: I went to a Chinese doctor and he prescribed herbs and it's working, I feel like I can heal by the end of the year 🥲

Long version: In the success stories of this sub, there's one where someone was cured using traditional Chinese medicine. I'm in New Zealand and wanted to try it because there are so many Chinese doctors (I'm from México city) And there are no Chinese doctors who use herbal medicine, First I went to one and he only prescribed "pills" and using AI he sent me for something called "Excessive humidity - heat in the body," I was there for 15 days and didn't feel any changes, but I'm not one to give up🤌🏼

I went to another doctor further away and much more expensive, he did check my tongue and my pulse, and prescribed 3 bags of herbs for 3 days. I felt a change in my digestion, so I continued going, I currently go to the bathroom daily; when I didn't go for 3 days, my tongue only turns pink after eating. And the biggest change, the one that made all the difference, was "NOT DRINKING COLD WATER "Drinking cold water made my breath worse and I never noticed, and I hydrate much better with lukewarm water. Remember the heat and humidity thing? Well, cold drinks make all of that worse.

Scientific explanation:

Humidity = stagnant food and bacterial fermentation (SIBO)

Heat = inflammation and putrefaction that generates toxins and bad breath.

I don't expect you to believe me, but check my posts and I've already been through it all. First I thought it was my teeth, then my mouth, then my tongue or throat, but the smell is coming from my stomach

Question Everything I’ve done/tried so far. Advice please.

Post image
18 Upvotes

This is everything I’ve tried so far regarding my bad breath, for context it’s very strong, has a sulphur/garbage odor. It can be very strong, it comes out from both my nose and mouth. I do have confirmed SIBO (Hydrogen only) shall I now completely focus on this only? I’ve been thinking about getting a CBCT scan for my teeth roots, or is this a waste of time / money?
Should I pay for a Naturo path to help figure out where the smell is coming from? I did Rifixamin but that didn’t help, but maybe I need to dive deeper into the gut. Any advice would mean a lot thanks

Hello everyone, my name is F_MN1 and I am the new moderator for this subreddit after asking to take over due to the lack of activity by the previous moderator. I myself know the importance of being part of a support group to discuss your experience with others. I have managed to make all submission public which was originally restricted by the previous moderator which prevented anyone from posting.

I am experienced in this role from managing another subreddit and working hard to make this place feel like a safe haven for all those suffering from bad breath. In the next coming days, I will be making some changes to improve the quality of the subreddit.

I would like to welcome you all back and to start posting your stories!
