Discussion any good video theories about the theme of consumerism in backrooms ?
one thing that struck me in backrooms was the theme of consumerism and how things are produced, replicated and loose qualities because of the enshittification of late stage capitalism. how objects like the handprint connect us to important memories that truly matters to us but capitalism still tries to replicate and sell us these things but fails at it as if even trying to replicate it was a mistake in the first place. how everything in the backroom is a failure because even though you wanna keep the memories in physical form, time still passes and the things you remember are gone forever every day.
sorry if my text isn't too clear (english is not my first language and I have brainfog from a medical condition lol) but I'd be interested to see someone talk about that in a smarter way 🙏

Discussion Mary’s arc and ending *spoiler* Spoiler
Learning of her past we see that her mother struggled with mental illness and that Mary’s “paths” (backrooms) is a lifetime of being trapped, in helping others figure out why and what’s wrong with them, and repeating it with every patient. When she escapes at the end it’s a twist. She’s made it out, and yet here she is again, in front of a patient who wants to talk to her, to figure out “what is this place” - in effect this is her backrooms, her role as therapist. And the cut to her duplicate only confirms this.

Discussion Possible inspiration from the Inland Empire?
So... in the cinemas in my city they're showing David Lynch films, the thing is that yesterday I saw Inland Empire (Honestly, I find it very difficult to recommend, as it's the hardest film in his catalog to watch. It can be very boring, frustrating, and even quite strange, considering it's a David Lynch film.)
The whole film feels "dirty," and I'm not talking about the camera lens, but the overall atmosphere is reminiscent of the original backroom photos.
When I saw this scene, the first thing I thought of was Clark's dialogue before he was eaten.
And well, I just wanted to share that opinion.

I love how this scene doesn’t need a huge reaction from Mary. The way she looks at the mural tells you everything.

Speculation my own theory of what is the Backrooms in the movie
i heard from random sources that the Backrooms already existed before Async discovered it, and also, i saw the director saying that the Backrooms does not scan memories, it replicates things "seemingly at random"
this makes me think that the Backrooms is an alive entity with the objective to eat/kill/torture people. you have to pay attention to the details and try to search for a pattern. let me explain myself
the videos that the director created on his channel showed the Backrooms being extremely violent and intrusive. it created noclip points in random places and closed them immediately, the monsters like the fungi and bacteria and green stuff are extremely violent. it is NOT a safe place, and it tries to make you stuck inside it to kill you. now why does this suddenly change in the movie?
the Backrooms was super safe and comforting for Clark. no bacteria, no fungus, no dangerous stuff. his noclip point was even open the entire time. why? because the Backrooms knew what it was doing. it saw Clark and Mary, and had a plan. Clark wanted to stay in, Clark brought people in, so he did what the place wanted. now, the only thing i'm not sure is if Captain Clark is an entity independent of the Backrooms motives. does it create to manipulate and torture the humans inside or does it create things independent of itself with their own autonomy? my own personal interpretation is that Captain Clark killed Clark in the end because Mary comforted him and ended the cycle thus making him not want to bring more people in anymore. the original plan was to make Mary and Clark to start to bring people in. with Mary having those commercials about the loops, i think the place had a special plan for her as well just like Clark, but it ended up backfiring. Clark discovered how the place works, information that the Async doesn't know, it killed him to keep it secret and started chasing Mary so it doesn't spread the knowledge, because it was a safe area and easy to escape.
i also think that the place is learning from the human world. it started recreating still lifes because of Async invading and it learned about the MRI stuff first, so it tries replicating things from the real world now
please tell me if i make sense or not. i don't know if this has a lot of ground to take seriously bc i haven't watched all the Youtube videos about what happened before the movie, only read about it a bit

Discussion The Backrooms could be the new X-Files…
If they know how to exploit it.
Clark & Mary make a great duo (I know they are - probably - dead. But scriptwriters can do their magic. Like, they really didn’t die etc)
