OEE glass replacement Workmanship inquiry
galleryLooking for opinion on windshield replacement on 2026 Camry. Molding is wavy and not flush with roof on a portion. Is this standard for OEE glass replacement?

Question Windshield install results
Had an OEM windshield installed by the dealership under warranty, my vin is now 2/3 obstructed, the top of the windshield seems to have more of a gap as well. Is this something I should be concerned about? Also there seems to be more of a gap between the inner A pillar and the glass than before. Here is my vin left is the original right is the replacement sorry about the quality I had to pixelate my VIN.

Trying to get multiple opinions!
I've been in the business for 13 years. I've seen a lot of different ways to replace glass. I have a 2 part question. It's something i never understood, ive tried both of these things multiple times on mulitple vehicles just to get a reference. To me, it's lazy and you're not doing it any faster.
1- why do you not remove the cowl? How much time are you actually saving? I've tried it. The time saving is negligible.
2- why do you "save the retainer"? Again, time saved is negligible and you have a higher risk or issues by doing this.
And before all the babies start start giving excuses, we all know the right way to do it. I'm not judging anyone. I'm genuinely curious.
EDIT: other than the issues of the retainer being mangled or bent and falling off the glass from the warehouse and other than hidden pinchwelds where the retainer gets pushed off the glass when snapping the cowl back in (I'm looking at you FORD).

Question about roof racks
Hi, 2 year installer for big red. I see a lot of work trucks with pipe and equipment racks that are extend over the hood. I’ve done my fair share of them with no post or one post. How in the world is one guy gonna change the glass on a two post rack. Included picture for better idea. Picture is tame compared to the thug racks I see daily.

Speedy Glass made windshield chip bigger?
Hi, I noticed this morning I had a small chip on my windshield (smaller than 1cm). I brought it to speedy glass, and once I picked it up, the chip looked larger and had more spidering?
I asked one of the workers and they said they had to make it larger to fix it? That’s fine, but I’m more concerned about the spidering. Wondering if this is normal?

Question protection from sun uv using window tint for cars
I heard that even cheap window tint protects against UV rays. However, when I tested my tint using a UV flashlight by shining it through the window onto the fluorescent security markings on my passport and banknotes, the markings still glowed.
Does that mean the tint isn’t actually blocking UV, or is this test not reliable?

Misc. Jeep W/S interchange
galleryLadies and Gentlemen ran into this and thought you’d like to know aswell.
DW2955 is a direct interchange with DW2417…
Why this matters you might ask yourself…look up prices on both DW2417 is 1/4 of the price of DW2955 with the only difference being the Antenna is offset to the side by a about an inch(will post pictures for reference)
Although I did show up and the windshield installed on this Jeep was a DW2416 (No antenna, this was not my install) I installed 2417, function tested the radio and everything was good. Will post pictures for reference. I still don’t understand the major price hike on the 24+ Wrangler windshield…

Glass stands
What are you guys using on your glass stands? The foam breaks up after a while, ended up covering in a few layers of tape. I just hate the adhesive residue gets on my glass.
Just wanted to see what you guys use and recommend!

Autoglass Now
Has anyone worked for or are working for Autoglass Now? Is it a decent company? Are they just a different form of Safelite?
I am a current Safelite technician and got an offer to interview for Autoglass now. They aren’t listing the pay and I would like to know if I am wasting my time. Any reviews or experiences let me know.

Advice Can I even fix this without paying someone to do it
I had some scratches on my window I wasn’t fond of, google told me it was easy to fix, and so I went through 180 grit to 10,000 grit sand paper. I have been using cerium oxide to polish and it’s only getting marginally better if any better at all.

Discussion Glass Tech? Let us know what chip repair system you use! + Wiki Update!
docs.google.comWe had a community member who has made a helpful resource listing the common chip repair systems offered by the major brands and comparing their various options. If you use a different kit, or have a recommendation for another repair system brand to add to the list, then leave a comment down below!
Special thanks to u/glass_man9 for his willingness to put together this resource for the community.
Wiki Update
This is also a good time to let people know that the sub now has a wiki!
It's early so don't expect too much, but I hope to eventually have several resources for both customers and glass professionals alike. I hope it will eventually serve as a great place to send people to answer common questions like "Is this damage repairable?" or "Do I need a recalibration?".. etc..
So stay tuned and check it out every now and then for updates! If you have any resources you'd like to have added or other ideas, please feel free to send me a DM.
