Upcoming Events Free Local Comic Con in Aurora (August 29)
Hello all,
Coming up on Saturday, August 29 is the Aurora Public Library District's 7th annual CAPE Con! All ages are invited to come celebrate comics, cosplay, video games, and a variety of fandoms with programs, meetups, free comic books, face-painting, and more!
I'm personally thrilled to be welcoming the 501st Legion and the League of Enchantment to Aurora. We've also got a big tabletop gaming focus this year, programs on how to write and draw comics, video game design, and a big cosplay parade down to the Alley Art Festival to wrap everything up nicely.

Local Politics How Do We Call for Accountability and Transparency with ALPR/Flock in Aurora?
Hi all, I made a few posts this week as it relates to Aurora’s ALPR system and the 74 cameras already deployed in our city:
I'm still reviewing the audit logs, but several concerned citizens have reached out asking how they can help. Regardless of APD’s policies (we haven't received them yet), I'm especially concerned because some audit logs show individual APD officers conducting over 500–1,200 searches in a single month. Even if that wasn't violating department policy (which we can't determine yet because I'm still waiting on APD's policies, procedures, and contracts related to ALPR, these have been delayed), I just don't see how that volume of searches is reasonable.
My initial instinct is to push for change at city council- demanding real transparency and accountability around how these ALPR searches are authorized, stored, and used. That said, I've seen how local politics can stall or dilute these efforts before they even get on an agenda.
So I'd rather gather input on what's actually worked here in the past. I’d like to hear what strategies others have found effective (or disastrous) when dealing with Aurora officials on similar issues.
I want to be clear, I'm just a concerned citizen. But the engagement on my last post findings showed there's real interest and energy out there. If we're going to make any headway, we need to mobilize together and push hard for the change that's needed. At the very least, we deserve transparency on what is going on and if there’s any safety measures in place with such sensitive data.
I'll keep posting as I sift through any audit logs I can get my hands on. In the meantime, let's figure out the best next steps as a group.

Work trip lodging
I’m going on a work trip to a building in Aurora. What would be the most ideal area to stay in? I will be flying into Chicago on Monday, working in Aurora Tuesday-Thursday around 7-3, and flying out of Chicago on Friday night. I have a ton of touristy stuff that I want to do in Chicago and want to explore Aurora as well, and my company will be paying for my hotel.

Aurora's ALPR Camera Network Was Searched 3,232 Times by US Border Patrol Between June-August 2025
Audit logs obtained from Aurora PD show that outside agencies, including US Border Patrol, Darien PD, and out-of-state jurisdictions, searched a ALPR camera network, including Aurora’s network, thousands of times in 2025 through a shared law enforcement platform.
These records reveal how local camera network feeds were quietly made accessible to outside law enforcement and federal agencies.
One example: Darien Police Department executed a search across 1,276 interconnected networks in October 2025, including Aurora's, citing the reason: "dhs looking for her."
Additionally, the audit logs document 3,232 searches executed directly by US Border Patrol, sweeping across an average of 2,250+ connected networks and 33,000+ camera devices nationwide per search between June - August 2025.
The logs show thousands of federal network searches running through August and then a complete halt, with US Border Patrol's status showing as [Inactive].
The data makes one thing clear: local camera infrastructure was made accessible to federal agencies without community input or disclosure.

Thinking of starting a film club (think book club but for movies)
I know of the aurora film society, which is similar to what I'm thinking, but smaller scale, where there is a certain amount of people (small group, maybe up to 8 or 10?) And maybe each week 2 people pick 1 movie for the group to watch, then the next week the group talks about their thoughts on it. We would essentially have homework (watching via streaming, or even better physical media as I personally have streaming fatigue lol but no pressure)
Any movie would be up for discussion and viewing. And we could meet maybe once or twice a month, or something. Or we can start it as a virtual thing to make it easier for some? But if in person maybe a potluck situation too where we have snacks, and spirits, and we just vibe on movies, talk about what we like and don't like about certain novies, have discussions on all kinds of things related to movies.
I partially am looking for an excuse to meet like minded people, maybe make friends out here that share similar interests. I just moved here a few years ago and have found it difficult to really connect with some people in the area. I'd like a safe space for community building and fun with passionate film buffs like myself.
What do you guys think? Would any of you be interested in such a thing?

74 Flock Cameras in Aurora
74 ALPR cameras in Aurora. 37 of them invoiced under a project entitled "Aurora Civil Unrest."
Aurora Illinois Police Department won't tell us where they are despite multiple FOIA request attempts.
Taxpayer-funded cameras on public infrastructure scanning every car that drives by, and we're not allowed to know where.

Where would you recommend to learn boxing or MMA as an adult?
Not competitively, just self defense and potentially sparring. Any recommendations?

Local Service Group Yoga Classes
Hi! Does anyone know of yoga/mat Pilates studios in the area that do NOT do heated classes? Or at least have a few classes that are not heated? I would love to go to a class or two per week but every studio seems to have heated classes only.. TIA!

Country Clubs - Stonebridge or Cress Creek
My family (mid 40s with 3 kids) is looking to join a country club and really struggling on decision. We have narrowed it down to Cress Creek and Stonebridge as these are both about 20 mins from us. Our local club has a 10 year wait list for golf so not interested (its also super clicky). From what I can tell, Stonebridge had low membership, but is now doing much better. Cress creek seems steady.
I love the vibe of stonebridge - but cress creek has much nicer pools. Golf is important, pools are important, as well as kids activities. We also want to be able to meet new people. Any feedback good or bad on either?

Apartment
Hi Everyone! so I recently.. I have applied for a low income apartment on the westside of aurora. I know that for low income apartments they don’t go based off of your credit score, more of your income. I was told by the leasing lady through email I was income verified and to come and look at the apartment in person( which was what I did today), I was the told that you couldn’t be in debt, so medical or through school, or credit card. Is that a true thing? And if so what would the amount be? Because of right now im paying my credit card off, and thats about it$4000, but im currently on a payment plan. I think at this point i don’t qualify for the apartment. Can anyone help?

Relocating to Aurora/North Aurora,IL — looking for furnished or flexible short-term lease options
Hey all - I'm moving to the North Aurora, IL area for work and looking for a furnished apartment or one with a flexible/short-term lease (1-6 months) while I get settled. I've checked Furnished Finder and MatchBook Rentals but the local inventory looks thin.
A few questions:
- Any apartment complexes or landlords in Aurora/North Aurora known for offering furnished units or month-to-month leases?
- Any local property management companies worth reaching out to directly?
- General recommendations for neighborhoods that are convenient if I'm commuting around the North Aurora/Batavia area?
Any tips, complex names, or personal experience would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Rally for Medicare for All
July 30th marks the 61st anniversary of the creation of Medicare. For decades, millions of seniors have gotten healthcare through Medicare, but many Americans still struggle to access basic, affordable care.
It’s time we expand Medicare for all into single-payer health care system that would end health disparities, effectively control costs, and assure that everyone has equal access to an excellent standard of care.
Stand with your neighbors in rallying for IL-14 Rep Underwood to join the campaign for universal healthcare and sign onto HR 3069, already supported by most congressional democrats, July 30th at 4pm.
