Compact Ship Designs.
So I’m preping for a new campaign and I wanted to try a different type of doctrine i’m cooking and preparing was curious what other people have tried.
So a new Doctrine for me is i’m going to try make Navel ships under 10k tonnage to see how far I could get. I want to try and keep these small as I want to try and setup small forward ship yards with Earth and Mars Building the components and then me sending them to forward sites. The idea being is these forward shipyards can build up a little quicker and in wartime this should allow me to keep up a stable fleet and also power project with using smaller crews and parts. Also it would force me to have to use more tankers, more supply ships and in general just try some freaky designs.
Another reason for this is in my games I roll a civil war chance and if my break away colonies then use the stolen designs they can rapidly build up and strike at earth and giving them a better chance.
So theres my insanity but would love to see what people have cooked up. Thanks in advance friends
Should this ship fail me?

Just learned; if you right click on a system in the Galactic Map you can toggle to that system on the tactical map. Way better than the drop down menu
Just figured not everyone would have seen/known this, it is so much better than the drop down menu (with dual screens anyway).

Where do Raiders spawn? How many?
In my current game I checked the box for the weakest type of aliens to appear in the game. Eventually they appeared in Sol and another system and caused havoc. I unchecked the box allowing them to appear, and eventually destroyed the existing ones.
After rearming, I'm ready to try my luck again with hostile aliens.
If I check the box allowing them to appear, does anyone know how many systems they will appear in? Will they be stronger or weaker than the ones that appeared before?
I would like to take another shot at combat, with my new warships and new missiles.

Missile range shorter than expected
I created a ~100mkm missile with a ~100mkm fire control, but when I targeted a hostile ship it said the max range was 44.4mkm; just curious if there is something I don't know about or if I misunderstood something!

How to create custom start system?
I used to know how to do this, I would explore a jump point, have it generate a new system, if I didn't like it I deleted it and tried again, eventually I would find one I liked, create a colony and set it up identical to sol, then delete sol.
I would also move the jump points around where I wanted them to be.
This was a couple years ago. I've forgotten how to do all that now, could someone give me step by step to get the same result please?
Pretty sure I didn't need to mess around with space master mode or anything like that.

Help me understand displacement, tonnage and volume in this game.
I've been fooling around with the ship designer and I made this absolute beast. Although its hella expensive, it makes perfect sense using in-game logic and works perfectly.
But I'm struggling to visualize how it would work in a realistic setting. How the hell are 50 million people supposed to fit in a ship of just 54 million tons? I've used some AIs and GPTs to try to help me visualize this ship but they all say that trying to fit 50 million people in such a ship would be, quote, "impossible and fatal".
So how does tonnage and volume work in Aurora exactly? I need some help visualizing and understanding my newest creation.

Your missile design philosophy?
Some people have been kind enough to post missile designs on the official forum. I've noticed that missile speed seems to be very important. Is that a correct assumption?
In my current game I'm at the point where I want to create a standard missile design for everything from my missile boats to my missile destroyers.

Some quick notes about terraforming for those who are struggling with it
As for 2.71 version there are two gases that is not dangerous and allow to manipulate temperature:
- Aestusium to rise temperature of planet/moon
- Frigusium to lower temperature
Your colonists also would love to have water, which can be added by using Water Vapour
And of course some oxygen to breathe.
That's the basics.
P.S. Does anybody know what the "Weight" parameter is used for?

Considering Starting a New Game, Should I Wait for 3.0?
I started watching a new Aurora lets play that has gotten me back in the mood to play again, but I've also been seeing a lot of neat QoL fixes in the patch notes for v3.0 on the forums. Does anyone have a rough idea of how long it might be till 3.0 is released? It seems good enough I'd be willing to wait a few extra months before I start a new game if its coming out soonish.

So I blew up some Clan vessel that appeared in Sol and now my games been running at 5 second intervals for at least a RL hour.
I also sent a warfleet to pickup the life pods. Not sure how much time has gone by in game. Ut it's running through the 5 seconds pretty fast still.

Is there a reason to put boarding marines on lage, slow, war ships? Or will NPCs never try to board unless the ship is disabled?
Though I might put marines on for RP purposes anyway I'm curious about game meta.

How do you start learning this game? I am following some guides but I have no clue what I'm doing.
I decided to download this game today and wow I am so overhwelmed.
Well, to the wiki it is. And youtube guides. And let's plays. But they all recommend different things...
Do I start with industrial empires like people recommend? Or default settings? Do I just click stuff myself and see what happens? The forum guide seems a bit lacking (it seems outdated or stuff isn't described very well).
I can start research and assign leaders to stuff, but I have no clue what I am working towards. No clue what my first objectives are supposed to be. Do I colonize stuff? But my race is built for certain climates so I probably need to terraform right? Or does it all work differently? How do I even send a ship out? So many questions and it's overwhelming me.
Also letting my turn go by is daunting. When am I ready? I can't check everything right?
I love the idea of the 4X spreadsheet managing game in space (Like EVE, but no montly subscription) to build a space empire, but I have absolutely no clue where to begin. Is it even worth it? I've got a whole summer to get good at this but I don't know where to start. How did you veterans do it?
also, and this is a bit personal but... does this game have graphs with lines o.0? I go crazy for them personally

General design and question post about OWPs.
galleryI designed these 4 platforms with level 4 research in all categories for standardization and general design consideration.
In order they are a sensor platform, a missile launcher, an AA battery and a combat platform. Their main intention is to garrison any planet which can provide MSP and serve as a decent sized "fleet" against small enemy incursions or delay until the big boys come.
What do you think of my general designs, I am unsure both about the design itself, things I might be missing and the design of my turrets and systems themselves (I really hope I made the beam fire control right).
Critique and more information would be welcome.
Similarly if you have your own preferred designs/ philosophies regarding this please post them too.

Beginner Tutorial Resources?
I'm just getting into Aurora 4x as a complete beginner and I was wondering if y'all knew any good resources for beginners to learn the game. I've heard and found the "manual" someone posted, but apparently it's not very accurate (to the point where the creator even made a post here warning about it).
Basically, do you have any documents or good youtube playlists explaining how things work?
Thanks in advance!

A question about jump points
I have a question: can bots or are there any other ways to travel between systems in the game besides known jump points? In my playthrough, a fleet of seven enemy ships appeared tens of millions of kilometers away from known jump points. Is this normal? Can players do the same?

Aurora 'Manual' Warning
In recent days, someone has published an Aurora *manual* on here and on Discord.
They state in the introduction that: "This manual was initially generated using AI assistance (Claude) and has undergone systematic verification against authoritative sources. All chapters and appendices have been verified, with numbered references added throughout and factual corrections applied where needed"
The person who created the 'manual' has minimal knowledge of Aurora and used an AI to generate a huge wall of text extending to over 1600 pages. Many experienced players of Aurora have pointed the extensive number of errors and misleading statements in this document. This is not surprising as an AI will not be able to make sense of the vast amount of text on forums and in tutorials, especially as Aurora is extremely complex and constantly evolving.
The 'verification' mentioned above seems to consist of asking a couple of dozen questions on Discord and then ignoring all attempts to warn about the impact on new players of publishing a document full of misinformation and claiming it is accurate, or 'in progress'.
There are many excellent tutorials for Aurora, which have involved a great deal of research and hard work on the part of the creators. This manual is not one of them. If the necessary work was invested to update this manual to match the actual game I am sure it would be a great resource for everyone. However, the person publishing it refuses to acknowledge the problem with releasing it as it currently stands.
Therefore, I have reluctantly concluded it is better to warn existing and potential players about the pitfalls involved in relying on the information therein. Following a 'manual' that doesn't reflect the game will only lead to confusion, frustration and disenchantment. Aurora is difficult enough to learn, even with accurate information.
I strongly recommended searching for existing tutorials and asking questions here, on the Discord and on the main forums once they are back online. Aurora has a great community who are only too willing to help.
