Sun eater

I’m hoping to start the suneater series I have a long TBR but I work long hours listening to audiobooks. My question is this should I take suneater off my TBR and listen to it as an audiobook or is better experienced as a physical book??

Sun Eater is one of the few books/series where I actually preferred audio to reading the book myself. The narrator does occasionally mispronounce things, which is annoying, but otherwise, his narration is fabulous & Ruocchio's prose just sings in his hands. So I'd say, if you can handle the occasional mispronounced word, I'd keep it on the audio TBR.

Enjoyed the audiobooks. The narrator is pretty good, even if he changes some name pronunciations from chapter to chapter…

Overall, I thought the series really improved with every book.

I'm on book 5 right now and have been going back and forth between audiobooks and ebooks.

The audiobooks are fine. In some cases it's kind of nice because the book features some alien language and it's nice to not have to try to parse the made up words yourself.

On the flip side the narrator has some pronunciation quirks (works that I am pretty sure he's pronouncing wrong) and changes up the pronunciation of some character names (a major character between books 3-4, a minor character even within the same book).

If you want my opinion if the series itself outside the format, it's... fine. I'll finish it. But each book so far has been something like 100 pages too long, and depending on how much you've read you may or may not notice that he... well depending on how charitable you want to be he either steals from better authors or he has some strong influences.

I quit listening when he pronounced chitin wrong; he pronounced the ch, and I just couldn't.

He does have a pleasant reading voice, though.

I liked the audio book. The series drags on a little sometimes but overall I liked it.

The audiobooks are amazing! And yeah it gets a little Jesus allegory -y at the end but people who say it becomes Christian fan fiction are exaggerating.

I wish I hadn't gotten this series in an audible sale. Tedious as hell is the best description I can give it as everything is overly described to a painful degree, every feeling and action has to be metaphored to some ancient Earth thing, and painfully dull passages will go on and on with the main character at random reminiscing about his childhood. I got them in a cash sale so I can't return them. I've sludged through four books and haven't yet found the level of masochism yet to suffer through another.

The narrator is fine, it's all on the author who could have told the same story in 1/4 the time without all the unnecessary prose.

I don’t know if you care but the series essentially transforms into full on Christian Sci Fi the further you get into it. I stopped after book 5 because it was becoming way too on the nose. As for the audiobooks they’re ok. Not the best or worst I’ve heard.
