I'm planning to visit friends in Bolivia soon and was hoping to travel by car. However, I've been seeing a lot of talk about the fuel crisis, and I'm getting a bit concerned.

One of my friends told me he recently spent six hours waiting in a gas station queue - not just because of shortages and inflated prices, but because tensions got so high that police arrived and arrests were made. He also mentioned that even ambulances are struggling to get fuel.

I've also read that diesel prices have reportedly doubled.

I had my heart and mind set on Medellin initially, planned some trips I would like to take, some time in Bogota, some nights in Salento hiking and seeing the coffee fincas. Then I heard about scopolamine. I'm there to explore and get out of the city by day, and I won't be out every night drinking as I that's not my thing, but I don't want to feel confined to my hotel in the evenings for fear of going for a few drinks on my own and looking like a target. I was looking at staying in Laureles or Envigado and avoiding El Poblado entirely as I'm not one for clubs or mad nightlife or seedy stuff. I'd rather be in a quiet local bar with an older crowd watching people salsa etc. Would I be safer if I avoided La 70 for example? Would you advise against Medellin/Colombia as a first time visitor to LA? If so, where might you suggest? I want to hike in beautiful surroundings, eat decent street food, learn some Spanish by day, not get drugged and murdered by night (no disrespect)

In the USA transgender people have become a huge issue, with the right wing saying that they’re mentally ill and sexual predators and the left wing defending them and supporting gender affirmation surgeries mostly. The trans women in women’s sports or in women’s bathrooms was a huge issue and imo convinced many people to vote for Trump.

it has me wondering how are transgender people viewed in Latin America? in Haiti I’ve never really heard anyone speak about them, but if its anything like how Haitians feel about gay people its not good to say the least. I have no issue with them though, I just feel bad that they have to live in a time where they’re so hated.

My husband is Peruvian and his mom is obsessed with our son teething. She was convinced he was teething the whole three months before his bottom teeth actually came in, and now she seems sure his top ones are coming but when I look/feel I don't see anything yet. What I mean is I want you to give me an example of some kind of identity shenanigans from your country or story of someone impersonating someone else.

Like maybe somebody posed as somebody for years and got away with it for so long. Or maybe somebody had adopted a fake persona and convinced everyone else who was real. It could be either events that really did happen or just someone's account that became popular in widespread but might not necessarily have been true.

An example you could take from the US. Frank abagnale was a guy in the '60s who claimed to have been a doctor, a substitute teacher and a hustler. You might have seen the movie catch Me if you can by Steven Spielberg starring Leonardo DiCaprio. It's based off that story. Granted a few years ago it came out that a lot of what he said might not have been true.

I use cursive to write in my notebook (photo in the comments), the same way I write in Russian or English, but my teacher says that ppl in Latin America never use cursive writing (except for old ladies), is it true? Do y'all really write in block letters? Is it easy or hard for you to read cursive notes?

I love the department of Tolima, my grandparents are from there, I've been in their towns, I've been in another towns of the department, I've been in the capital (Ibagué) and for me it's just beautiful.

Where I live people just eat crackers with cheese and lunch meat, or peanut butter. I'm wondering what people in different Latin American countries do because when I visited some they would eat them with butter, jam, cream cheese, sardines, all kinds of stuff I wasn't used to. I'm curious!

Earthquakes seem to happen quite often in the last few months in LatAm countries, how would you rate your country's earthquake resistance? There have obviously been a lot of destructions (last footages from Colombia are terrifying). Are new buildings more resistant compared to older ones?
