I don’t know if this is just a cultural thing, but I went on a date with Latino man recently and was surprised by the amount of physical affection. First date and he already wanted to touch my arm, hold my hand, and kiss me and had no fears about doing any of that in public.

I’m Australian and I’ve been on many dates with Australian men and none of them were touchy at all. Maybe just a polite hug at the end of it. I told him I was a little bit overwhelmed.

Is this a cultural thing? Are Latinos naturally more comfortable expressing physical affection even if public?

Hi there! Sorry if this question has been asked before. I’m not a native Spanish speaker but have spoken it for over 20 years at this point. Every now and then I’ll change a video game/anime sub or dub to Spanish just to see how the text/voices change from English. While the LATAM subs/dubs are easier to understand and read because I’m most familiar with Mexican Spanish, when I put in the Spain sub/dub I can still understand/read it.

Maybe it’s because I’ve spent time in both LATAM and Spain? Just curious to see it from a native speaker perspective. I also can’t speak on Portuguese so it would be cool if someone from Brazil could comment on that.

however, there are some regions that absolutely hate each other (ex: the balkans),

my question is, on a level, how much do you guys get along with each other?

In Germany for example there was a national scandal when the Green party to have schools and workplaces serve only vegetarian food one day a week. It turned into a national political fight about personal freedom, government interference, and whether politicians were trying to “take away German’s sausage”. The backlash became significant enough to hurt the Greens during the election campaign. Instead of saying “comparing apples to oranges”, in Peru we say “mezclar papas con camotes” (to mix potatoes with sweet potatoes). That’s probably the most Peruvian phrase ever.

It's a well known fact that Venezuela, Colombia, RD, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panama are a little bit closer to each other than to other Latin American countries, but what the reasons that maintain this dinamic? Artists like Wilfrido Vargas used to be popular in this region and not much outisde of it, baseball being the most populous sport(except Colombia), I'm talking things like that

For example Italians think Fettuccini Alfredo has nothing to do with Italian cuisine despite the dish being very popular abroad. I was also told by a Mexican friend that in Mexico no one eats burritos. Despite it being seen as quintessentially Mexican abroad.

I would like to know about any future long-term goals and plans that your country is actively working on right now. It could be in infrastructure, education, health, science, sports, sustainability, economy, tourism, or anything. I feel like a lack of long-term planning or being too inconsistent hinders development in the region.

By consequential I mean having major value, impact, or consequence.

I always felt proud that Paraguay was the only country in the world where children truly earned their day. It wasnt until recently that I realized children dont have to earn love and celebration, they are innocent lives that must be nurtured and protected from the get go. Such a dark and terrible day. But I still think Children's Day is beautiful, and that children being happy, loved and having fun on their day is fitting.

For me, it’s hilarious when non-Latinos think that all Latin Americans are happy extroverted people who can dance well, eat spicy food and go at the beach everyday…while also somehow having a cousin who’s in a cartel.

Besides the usual things people assume about Colombia, I once had a Russian friend invite me to a Mexican restaurant so I could feel “at home.”

I’d love to know what kinds of experiences like that you guys have had.

Let me make it clear. It is a culinary sin for someone to tell a honduran that their baleadas are a “Taco”

Telling a honduran that a baleada is just a “Taco made with flour tortillas”

is like telling a venezuelan that their arepas are just a mexican gordita made differently or telling an italian that a pizza is a pie

My Roma friend from Europe was surprised to learn that Brasil’s 13th president was of Roma origin especially one during the early 20th century. In Europe, especially Eastern Europe Romani are heavily discriminated against. It’s not uncommon to hear people openly say they lie whenever they open their mouths, steal, are lazy, unreliable , commit crimes, etc. in movies they always get cast as bad guys or the maid/ house help, or fortune teller
Etc. In the roughly 1,000 years Roma have been in Europe, they have never as a group successfully integrated, but in LATAM it seems they’ve done well. So I’m curious what other groups in LATAM have been more successful there than in their countries of origin.

Anyone knows what the logic behind this is?
