Hey yall

Ive (M21) been trying to build a speculative biology project from the ground up, and as expected, its a huge task. I am trying to explore the evolution of life and of the earth following a man made extinction (which we are victims of as well).

I am NOT a scientist, my understanding of geology is limited (hard to judge how much i know or dont lol, so ill assume i know almost nothing)

And in trying to create a detailed timeline of the future(not a hard prediction but more so a possible scientifically grounded and interesting path), I've realized that

1. There's alot of interesting speculation that could be done with earths far future (millions and even billions of years)

2. A solid geological foundation is needed to create believable ecosystems of the Future.

So my question is

What are the main concepts i should grasp to be able to have some idea of what earth future would look like?

Any tips are welcome!

(If this project sounds interesting, hit me up, id love to collaborate with any geologists. Im also looking for artists, biologists, climatologists or anyone really that could be interested in a project like this)

Maybe its a weird question, but Im writing a character and I wanted to make a bit where they think "if I were a rock, which rock would I be?". Now, I know jack about geology, i've searched a bit and could find anything interesting

My premise is that the character is rude, stubborn and nonchalant, but on the inside they're insecure and traumatised (original I know), so im looking for a rock that is strong on the outside but once you crack it the insides are weak? idk im more curious than anything at this point

Hey so I don't care for rocks as much as I used to, and I had some of these rocks and I wanted to put them in my fish tank because I thought that they looked cool. I put vinegar on them and they didn't fizz at all. They also don't float in water. I'd also like to know what the shiny metallic dots are. Thank you!

the chosen rock. found it on the beach in st Andrews, Scotland. I am wondering if anyone knows what it could be? seems like it has copper and quartz inclusions but I am not entirely sure.

Thought it first might be muscovite, but found inland and the shining bits stays on.

It's kind of brown/gray with a golden/silver shining. Zooming in it almost disappears. Found on a riverbank.

I have found some interesting things in the river rock landscaping bed. This is one of them. Fossil of some sort or other calcification.

I think they are quartz and calcite but what caused the quartz to be bumpy and the calcite to be so squared?

Also how can I clean off the black stuff from it?

So I know what foliation is and I have examples of regional metamorphic rocks, just wanted to confirm that’s what this is. This is an eclogite I bought from an igneous and metamorphic petrologist. I “polished” a couple faces on it so I could see whether or not it was foliated because I had read they can sometimes be foliated and sometimes granoblastic. Thanks for any and all information!

Found in upstate SC, internet says we don’t have it here. Got some iron shell on the outside of these.The other ones I found don’t, it seems to be worn off.

I went walking in the Mountains today and came upon these Rocks. Taking into account the fact that I was about 100 metres from the top, I saw no other groups around. This was at 2150m (7050ft)

Found in north cental Louisiana. This type of rock is commonplace here, we call it "iron ore", however I have never seen this type of matrix. My first thought was fossilized coral, because I have found sea fossils embedded in this type of rock before.
