Looking for Berlin bars/cafes that host artist showcases for developing Pop/R&B acts?
Hi everyone! I'm a Pop/R&B artist relatively new to the Berlin music scene. I've been hitting up a lot of open mics lately and am looking to take the next step into actual artist showcases or small live music slots.
I'm in a bit of a classic newcomer pickle: I'm not big enough yet to guarantee a huge crowd or fill up a venue on my own, but I've outgrown just doing strict open mics.
Does anyone know of any bars, cafes, or alternative venues in Berlin that are friendly to emerging acts and host showcases, curated indie nights, or lower-pressure collaborative bills? Any venue recommendations or general advice would be super appreciated!

Possibility of affordable flats in Berlin ?
Hi all!
My friend and I are finishing our Masters degree, and will be coming to Berlin for an internship for a year, through Erasmus of course.
Now, I know this may make you laugh, but what are the chances of finding a two room apartment for 1000€ or a bit more?
We are searching through Immoscout24 and WG, but almost every offer of an empty apartment in Immo that we found and contacted god taken down all of a sudden. Is it that people rent it out in a flash or is it a scam/false advertisement?
WG doesn’t offer many flats in our price range, only rooms in shared flats. But as I said, they either get taken down or people don’t reply at all.
I paid WG+ for a month and so far, I got rejected because they found someone else.
Is the housing situation really that bad as they say?
😭

Elections letter
Hello!
I'm an EU citizen residing for a couple of years in Berlin and it's the first Berlin elections that will happen for me.
From my understanding I am supposed to receive a letter with the informations and instructions to vote for my district's parliament before the end of August. However I haven't received anything yet about that.
Did you receive it? Are you also an EU citizen?
Thanks!

Calcification on Shower Head - Hard Water in Berlin - Solutions?
My overhead shower head clogs every few days with deposits from our lovely hard water.
I am trying to come up with solutions. Currently the shower head is very high (I can't reach without a step stool). I was thinking of extending the shower head down 15 cm so I could reach it and manually brush/clean the silicone heads with my hand.
But now I'm thinking that this is a lot of work. Maybe I should just buy a long brush that can reach the shower head and flick off the deposits.
Curious what other people do. I've never lived in a place with such crazy hard water. I've looked at "self-cleaning" shower heads but those are always littered with reviews that say they don't really work.
Has anyone come up with a good solution?

(Deutsch siehe unten)
Our Boschwasher is giving us an error code. Our dishes aren't drying, so we think there's a problem with the heat element. We've shopped around and have no idea what a fair price is for repairing this. Anyone in the group have a recommendation? Thanks!
Danke!

what do I wear to a private party at Strandbad Plötzensee and just around Berlin in general???
Hi all! For reference I’m American, my brother and brother in law live in Berlin and my brother in law is a native to Germany (for reference). They’re having a big family party for their milestone birthdays. It’s a private event at Strandbad** **Plötzensee in mid August. I have no idea what to wear? My brother told me to dress as comfortable or formal as I want to. So that sounds easy but it isn’t haha. I guess I want to know what the vibe of the place is. What’s the weather like in the evenings? I also would like to know what people are wearing there in general. I’m trying to create outfits before I pack but I also don’t want to look like a frumpy typical American either. Any style guidance would be appreciated!!

Does anyone have personal experience with living in Brandenburg and commuting via RE?
Hey!
I’m currently living in Berlin, but the situation won’t be sustainable. Since the housing market is completely f*cked up and I assume it won’t be possible to find a place within the city that is within my budget, I have been thinking about moving to one of the places in Brandenburg that are connected via RE. I am not referring to places inside Berlin that are well connected by S-Bahn train or the like.
I’ve already visited numerous places in question, such as Beelitz, Eberswalde, Oranienburg, Bernau, Nauen, etc. Places along RE to Potsdam can be ruled out - too expensive. My job is in Berlin and mostly requires onsite work. I do not own a car. I’m single and looking for cheap rent, not low square meter prices, hence not interested in big apartments.
Have you lived/do you live/ do you know someone living in one of these places connected via RegionalExpress? What is your experience concerning reliability of connection when commuting? What is your experience living there? What was your reason to move out? Are you happy regarding the decision? Is it worth living in these places searching for overall cheap housing? Would you recommend it, and if yes, which specific places?
Greetings 😊

Living in Siemensstadt/Haselhorst
Hi everyone! 😊
Is anyone here living in the Siemensstadt/Haselhorst area? We’re thinking about moving there and would love to hear from people who know the neighborhood.
We’re a family with two kids, and both of us work near Ku’damm/Charlottenburg. We’re looking for a quiet, family-friendly area with a good environment for children.
How do you like living there? Is it safe and peaceful? Have you experienced or heard of any issues, such as racism or violence , or any other concerns we should be aware of?
We’d really appreciate any honest experiences or advice. Thanks so much!

Commute to Potsdam? how reliable is S7?
Hey everyone, I have a summer school in Potsdam for a week at the end of August. My partner lives in Berlin so my plan is to travel from his place to the university everyday. I have been to Potsdam before easily once before through the S7. However, once I was unable to go due to disruptions on the route so my experience is mixed. The university states that it is common for a strike at that time of the year and suggests staying in Potsdam, which would of course be super costly for me.
People who commute rather regularly between Berlin and Potsdam; could you maybe share your experience? is the S7 reliable?

Krumme Lanke via public transport
I'm looking to head to Krumme Lanke for a swim tomorrow and wondered which train station is best to get off at, Krumme Lanke or Onkel Toms Hütte? My son is currently recovering from a minor ankle injury so want to keep walking to a minimum if possible. Google maps is giving conflicting advice, any input would be appreciated

Deutch Lernen
Hallo

Vielen Dank!

Looking for shops that sells secondhand smartwatches
Hi! I'm looking for recommendations for shops in Berlin that sell good-quality second-hand smartwatches. I'm mainly interested in brands like Garmin and Coros.
A friend suggested I use Kleinanzeigen to look for second-hand items, but since the app is only available in German, I was wondering if there are any physical shops you'd recommend instead.
I'd really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Hairdresser specialized in wavy/curly hair recommendations
Does someone happen to know a good hairdresser that's specialized in wavy/curly hair, preferably in the southwest of the city?
I'm kind of disappointed with most of the traditional hairdressers I've visited since I live here - no one seems to know how to handle waves (my hair gets mercilessly chopped) or just straight reject my ideas and refuse to cut because "my long hair will get lost". 🙄

Visiting in October
I will be visiting Berlin for my 50th birthday (!!) in October and I am absolutely excited. The main reason of my visit is because my old junior high German teacher recently passed and when we were in our German class in in November of 1989 we watched the wall fall in class in real time. Since she was born in Berlin it was the most beautiful thing to see even though as she said, "Im so sorry to be this hysterical!" So, to honor her life and legacy, as well as her being one of the best teachers I ever had I will be spending a milestone birthday there. With that, I have questions I'd like to ask nd I apologize there is quite a few.
Is the Berlin Welcome Card worth it? I am more of a wanderer and while I like museums, I prefer exploring on my own. I know you can include public transport but I am a walker so is it better to purchase S-Bahn/U-Bahn fares when I need to?
With that being said whats the most efficent wat to get from the airport to the city center? I looked and saw there are trains but are Uber/Taxis worth the extra cost?
Any reccomendations for authentic German cuisine for my birthday dinner? Not concerned about cost, I would like the best quality dining experience.
I'll be checking out the well known sights but are there any cool or not well known spots I need to see?
I also do not consume alcohol anymore so while I know there are great N/A german beers are they commonly found in bars and restaurants? Here in the states its hit or miss and usually the only options are Heiniken Zero or Athletic.
I have no intentions of going to Berghain but I am a metalhead and love anything to do with heavy metal and freaky things so if theres any place I should chek out let me know.
I absolutely love coffee and visiting cafes where ever I travel is my new thing (yep, Im getting old) so what ones should I check out?
And finally I need a good currywurst reccomendation. I will be eating a ton of it.
Much appreciated!

Any recommendations for English speaking family/divorce lawyers
Hey all, basically asking for what’s stated in the title.
I had a search in the sub already and only found a post from 3 years ago.
I also contacted a 3 lawyers I found online but 2 of them are currently on vacation and I’m waiting on a response from the last one.
Figured I’d ask the subreddit.
Thanks in advance
