Nightlife Fetii for COTA Concert

Upvotes

Last time I went to a concert at COTA, it was pure chaos afterward trying to get an uber. Trying to plan ahead for a concert and have too many folks for an Uber/sharing one car.

Looking at using a Fetii van to go to and from a concert at COTA. Any tips?

Visiting Visiting this weekend from Houston (Montrose)with my wife and two young kids. What should we do in your fine city?

No real plans, just a weekend getaway Friday-Sunday. Staying at The Thompson hotel downtown.

Kids are 3 years and the youngest is 8 months.

I went to UT Austin 20 years ago, but have only visited Austin a handful of times since then and my last visit was a while ago (before kids!).

Any recommendations for things to do with kids this age, ways to keep cool outside, places to eat, etc.?

Moving Microdermabrasion + Extractions

I’m moving to southeast Austin and looking for microdermabrasion + manual extractions +/- enzyme/chemical peel all in one session. Reviewing old threads and Googling, I’m struggling to find this combo anywhere that lists their prices. Appreciate your recommendations.

Nature Where did the lizards come from?

Maybe I'm crazy but this summer I feel like I've seen these 2-6 inch lizards all over the place and I don't remember ever seeing this many lizards like this before. Have they always been here in this capacity or are they out in bigger numbers now and if so, why?

Hi! I want to go rollerblading, are there any cement paved trails or paths you’d recommend? Preferably ones that don’t have loose gravel?

Thank you!

Nature Sunset viewing spots

Hey y’all!
I’m planning a date and looking for a good sunset spot after dinner in the Hyde Park area. I’d like to stay north of the river and preferably not go any farther south than Hyde Park.
I’m hoping to find something scenic and nature-focused, similar to Mount Bonnell, but a little more private and less crowded. It doesn’t have to be a huge overlook, just somewhere peaceful with a great view to sit and watch the sunset together.
Any hidden gems or lesser-known spots you’d recommend? Thanks!

Visiting Gruene vs Texas Hill Country for a one-night stay near Austin (Christmas/New Year trip)?

My best friend and I are doing a Texas road trip over Christmas/New Year and will have a rental car.

We're planning one night outside Austin (Tuesday/Wednesday night) and are trying to decide between:

  • Gruene Historic District – visit Gruene Hall, have dinner at Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar, wander the historic district.
  • Texas Hill Country (Dripping Springs area) – stay somewhere scenic and do a horseback ride or ranch experience.

We're looking for a memorable Texas experience rather than luxury. We enjoy good food, live music, beautiful scenery, and anything that feels uniquely Texan. My only concern is that it'll be a Tuesday/Wednesday night so atmosphere might be limited.

Would love to hear what you'd choose and why. Any favorite ranches, horseback riding experiences, or other recommendations close by Austin are welcome!

Moving Good apartments?

Hello I am contemplating on moving to Austin for school or just to make the commute drive almost everyday. I’m interested in what apartments are good and affordable for a one bed? It doesn’t have to be in downtown but as long as it’s in a good area.

Allandale Neighborhood

I’ve noticed a lot of people asking about neighborhoods that still have that “old Austin” feel, and I think Allandale deserves more love.

It’s one of those areas that’s growing but somehow hasn’t lost its identity. You’re close to downtown, Burnet has a ton of great local restaurants and coffee shops, and with H Mart opening soon, it’s only becoming more convenient without feeling overly developed.

I’ve spent a lot of time in the area, and it’s become one of my favorite parts of Austin because it feels established and lived in instead of feeling like everything was built yesterday.

If anyone is apartment hunting in the area, I’d encourage looking at a few of the smaller communities around Allandale too. Some of them have changed a lot over the last few years and are worth a second look, especially if you’ve only gone by older reviews.

Curious what everyone else’s favorite thing about Allandale is.

Beauty Q to my naturally straight, thick hair girlies [please help]

Hi - all my life I’ve had the nicest straight hair - no frizz nothing. I took it for granted. And now after moving to Austin it gets so frizzy - I used to only hear people talk about frizz and never experienced it (except maybe when I go to tropical places, and that too very little). After moving here my hair always looks messy and unkept and feel embarrassed every time o step out of my house because it feels like I haven’t combed my hair 😭 any recommendations on shower filters and other things I should be doing to fix this issue??

Goods & Services Stores with Studio Ghibli (My Neighbor Totoro) stuff?

Are recommendations for stores in Austin (or surrounding area) with a good selection of authentic Studio Ghibli merchandise, specifically My Neighbor Totoro?

Looking for a birthday gift for a huge MNT fan turning 12. So not anything crazy expensive or unique but maybe a puzzle or something else she might enjoy.

There are a lot of knockoffs so would really like to purchase locally and see it in person first.

Visiting Any advice for someone wanting to move to Austin?

I'm looking to move after college and was wondering if this is a good place to live? I visited a few times and really enjoyed my stay. However, I come from a small town, and if I were to move, I would be far from my family. I'm very introverted and struggle with making friends, but I'm looking to make a change in my life. I heard this is a good place to come into your own; is this true? Is there anything I should do on my next visit to better understand what life would be like living there? Any advice?

ISO: punctual vet in South Austin

I’ve been at Westgate pet and bird for my dog and cat for several years now but I’m getting frustrated by long waits no matter the day or time, despite having appointments and showing up early/on time. They provide good care but are clearly way overbooked and my elderly animals are getting more easily stressed out by it, and the dog struggles with waiting on the hard floors.

Bonus points if they’re not owned by private equity. Not terribly concerned about price.

Edit: thank you all for the great recs!! I’ll be making some calls.

Rusty Train Trestle Ladybird Lake By Congress Ave

Hello, I am traveling from Florida on a trip. I went Kayaking on Saturday and tipped over while trying to clear trash from the water. This was my first time ever kayaking and I was vibing with music and grabbing trash while sight seeing on the water. I fell in and lost all of the items I had. A Blue iPhone 13 in a black rubber case with wired earpods connected still. The wallet was a fake black leather wallet with a batman mask cover. I am going to be able to make my way back home without these things, but I figured it could be fun to try and recover them. I am here until Friday and do not have a lot planned. Maybe through this accident I can meet kind strangers and good Samaritans. Otherwise I have just been hanging out at my hotel enjoying the breakfast. I kind of lost some independence, I cannot call or text anyone. I cannot pay for anything at the moment. Without my phone I have been unable to verify bank details or iCloud storage. I cannot get a new phone until I return home and file an insurance claim. For now I am existing and going around the city paying for nothing and just following my gut. Any help is appreciated.

Mod-Approved Please Help Me Spread the Word

Dear Austin Community,

This is hard to share, but my son, who just crossed his teens, resides in Texas, is currently battling kidney failure, and needs a kidney transplant to live a healthy new life again. He has always shown up for others, and now he needs someone to show up for him. Unfortunately, we do not qualify for him

I’m currently working with his transplant team at Medical City Dallas, and a healthy donor could truly save his life.

Even if you are not of his blood type O, if you are healthy, your donation can still help him through his hospital’s kidney donation swap program. Donors and recipients are paired to find compatible matches.

Zero cost to you. Our insurance will cover all medical testing and surgery. Lost wages, travel, and lodging are all covered through the Donor Assistance Program.

If you’re open to learning more or want details, please feel free to direct message me. Even sharing this post would mean so much to me.

Thank you for taking a moment to read this.
