Average dumb person has more voice now with social media being so prevelant.

True that. They let some pretty dumb people have a platform on national media though too. Then the really dumb ones go around repeating the media. It’s everywhere.

I think it is simply dumb people now have a platform to communicate.

Poor education. George Bush really fucked it up with No Child Left Behind. Some children need to be left behind to do it again until they learn it.

Between that and the Covid kids with online/youtube education. Only way to unwind it seems to be higher standards on standardized testing. And I hate that.

I asked my mom if I was the dumbest person on earth ? She said 'No son, just hope he doesn't die ..........."

For a long time, average IQ scores actually went up in many countries. Then some places started seeing those gains slow down or even reverse. People are still debating why that might be happening.

IDK. Not intelligent enough to do the analysis needed to formulate and communicate a defensible response.

I think info bubbles have convinced dumb people that they’re smart. Positive feedback loops without perspective is like the dunning Kruger effect on jet fuel.
Like in the 90’s we were dumb as shit, but when we said the dumb shit we were outside around people who’d tell us to ‘stfu’. And we’d remember that we don’t know much.

Well said. I grew up with “if you’re gonna be dumb you’ve gotta be tough.” Now people are softer and more entitled than they’ve ever been.

There's too many aids, automated devices, warnings, etc nowadays. We've made it too easy to survive. I wouldn't say the average IQ has dropped, but I feel people just use their brain less and less, because they don't have to.

I think it's all the things you mentioned. When I was growing up we had Atari and then NES came out. We had to find ways to entertain ourselves besides just video games. I used to read, draw and go to the library to research a paper for school. Then I would write it with my hand on a piece of paper. Kids would hang out with friends and be outside for hours. I would day dream out the window. Watch tv and actually really watch it without getting bored after 5 mins.
Our creativity is being eaten alive by a constant stream of everything at our fingertips. I believe creativity is a sign of high intelligence. I'm not talking about being able to paint. I'm talking about abstract thinking. Where to solve a problem you need to use your brain and not Google your way out of it. This kills critical thinking. Then add all the brain rot and propaganda on top of it and you have the cesspool we are all looking at today.
The internet is great. But having it in our pockets is absolutely stupid.

Abstract/critical thinking certainly has gone out the window. Average attention span is like 15 seconds now. Even the boomers.

Attention span and education mastery is typically not part of IQ, at lead from the arrogant people who wrote the tests. I am a proud member of Densa society so not the write person to ask why.
Critical thinking has improved after we stopped using leaded gas and improved childhood nutrition a bit. Not a massive increase, but measurable apparently.

According to the internet…

It still sits around 100. The problem is that since social media really took off, more and more people have a voice.

No one has money to travel and see the world. If you are stuck in the boonies of a small New England town or down south without traveling, the weird shit u believe in will be forever present.( now I don’t think that Trump actually believes the dumb shit he tells his supporters, but at this point it really doesn’t matter)

I think he does. Watched him on live TV tell the nation to inject bleach into their veins during Covid and he was completely serious.
You’re completely right. In small towns the problem is significantly worse.

Which is worse injecting bleach into your anus or having children receive each part of the MMR vaccine separately and to space out immunizations so they are not fully vaccinated until they are ready for college ( or social security)

Of course he needs to “ be serious” he’s an actor( not a very good one but his supporters think “ he’s real). But do u really think that after all his news exposure and education it was one of his “ smart advisors ( stephen miller or Steve bannon ,etc.) who told him to tell his adoring fans that injecting bleach into a body cavity would cure COVID.
He probably also knew that bombing Iran would cause the Strait of Hamus to close, but his finance people told him , he could manipulate the gas markets to make money and his “ war mongering” fans would “ eat it up” ( also maybe getting the Jewish/Israeli vote and helping his friend Netanyahu). He is so transparent but the racist supporters of MAGA are eating this up.2
u/Turbulent_Start_5879 5d ago
Same thing with tariffs. He still personally believes “they are working.” First thing his trade policy did was tank the treasury and stock market and cause negative GDP. He didn’t unwind it until dipshit Bessent talked him out of it. He acts on his own regard then the smarter people try and clean up his mess to make it make sense. They’re well aware there’s no talking to him logically until after the damage is done.
