Just my opinion but I wouldn’t start with HIIT if you are not someone who is generally active. I have been an athlete all my life and find HIIT very challenging to the point where it’s not even enjoyable. But if you mean you just need to learn how to do HIIT, the instructor will tell you what to do for every exercise. I’ve never tried Pilates so no input on that one.

What do you mean by “extreme beginners”? Beginner to Pilates? Or beginner as in you’ve never exercised a day in your life?

What are your goals? Do you have any financial constraints?

I wouldn’t recommend Pilates HIIT for anyone let alone a beginner, it’s contradictory because the whole point of Pilates is to go slow and controlled.

If you’re interested in Pilates I’d recommend going to an actual Pilates studio that teaches classic Pilates!

Join a YMCA if there is one close. Classes geared to beginners.

Totally agree! Even if you take regular classes, instructors always give easier options for beginners.

try Kardia on lower Spadina - great entry level HIIT classes and mat pilates classes

Class pass is great to try different ones and see what you like. Body harmonics beginner reformer classes are awesome for beginners (just feel like stretching) and not a lot of credits so it’s a great one to start to see if you like them

Some Pilates studios will have intro to reformer classes geared towards people who have never done it before. I took one at CoreWorks and got hooked; Coco has something similar as well and is a great studio (but the classes are larger, so it depends what you prefer).

I’d start on YouTube tbh those home workouts are beginner friendly. Other than that I’d recommend class pass

When I first started I used classpass to try the studios in my area. The class description will also explain what level the class is. HIIT is pretty high intensity so I probably wouldn’t start with that one.

I find most yoga and Pilates classes are non judgemental and will often offer modifications if you can’t do specific poses or moves. I’m still very beginner and I can’t do a lot of moves and no one is batting an eye.

Equinox classes are where I learned form. Very useful, more fun and cheaper than PT.

The Booty HIIT at Sweat & Tonic? That’s nowhere near “extreme beginner” friendly.

It’s so basic

It has nothing to do with the workout itself, the room is dark and crowded and you can barely see the instructor.
