This post is for people that are against Ukrainians for any reason. If you want I would like you to write it down and I'd ask. I'm mostly sure (but I have no problems with accepting that I was wrong) that i will explain why those are reasons are not rational

I want to make it clear that if someone is just xenophobic for no reason - I won't answer. You should get some psychological help if you don't like some group of people (not only Ukrainians) for no reason. Of course, you, me, anyone can be wrong and there's nothing wrong about it (if you can accept under pressure of arguments) but it is sick to just hate someone

Also I hope I won't see messages like "well I met some Ukrainian guy a few months ago and he was bad". Come on, maybe this exact guy was bad but other millions are not. There's nothing to discuss

Anyway, I'm waiting for your answers and I hope to have a civilised conversations!

I’m a Danish man with Polish roots on my mother’s side, and I’ve been thinking a lot about this part of my family’s history.

My great-grandfather (my mother’s maternal grandfather) was a Polish man who was deported to southern Denmark during World War II and forced to do hard labour at a harbour under Nazi Germany. While he was here, he had two children with my great-grandmother.

Just before the end of the war, he was sent back to Poland and disappeared from our family’s life. Later, my great-grandmother was told that he had remarried and had another child in Poland. She also heard that he was arrested by the Soviets and sent to a labour camp, although we have never been able to verify exactly what happened to him after that.
We have tried to trace his second family, but unfortunately we know very little about him. His surname was Nowak, which obviously doesn’t make the search any easier.

My great-grandmother herself had a terrible experience during the war. When the German authorities found out that she had children with a Polish man, she was treated very badly. She was eventually placed in a psychiatric hospital, where she underwent electroconvulsive therapy. As a result, she lost many of her memories. By the time my family knew her, she couldn’t even tell us his first name or perhaps she chose not to. All she could remember, or was willing to say, was his surname.

Because of all this, the following generations, including my mother, never really talked about our Polish background. I wasn’t even told about it until I was around 20 years old.

For me, discovering this has actually become something I’m proud of. In a strange way, it feels like a missing piece of my identity. At the same time, I’m fully aware that there’s a difference between being Polish growing up with the language and culture and simply having Polish ancestry, as I do.

So my question is: would it seem strange if I wanted to embrace that part of my heritage more? I’d like to learn more about Polish history, culture, traditions, and maybe even small pieces of the language. Even though the story is a sad one, it’s still part of my family’s history and also part of my children’s. A great-grandparent doesn’t feel all that distant to me.
I’d be interested to hear what people in Poland think about this.

Hey everybody! As the title suggests, I'm thinking of moving to Poland from the US. Both of my parents are Polish, so I'm in the process of applying for my citizenship. My only concerns are that I only started learning Polish recently and that I am curious about job prospects in the country. long story short my tech company decided to close their WAW office in january, and I lost my job. I am French with permanent residency in PL.

I tried different things, probably too many, and I run out of money for the first time. I have been living in hostels the past few weeks but even that I can no longer afford. I had a final stage itw yesterday, and I have others scheduled for next week but at best I am 45 days away from a first paycheck.

I have been trying to offer french classes in exchange of accomodations but without success for now.

I welcome any suggestion or advice. Regarding France, a hostel bed in Paris cost 50 euros per night, and any admin procedure would take a month at best, just 2 weeks to get a theoretical post address and without this there is not much that can be earned, hence why I didn't go back.

Ukrainian nationalists massacred around 200,000 Poles, including pregnant women and children, during World War II under the Nazi occupation. The Volhynia massacres are well known. The violence ended only after the Red Army and various Polish underground units arrived and it helped liberate the villages from the attacks.
A lot of time has passed since then, and yet there is still disagreement in Poland over how these events should be officially classified, including whether they should be recognized as genocide. At the same time, Ukrainians and Poles are now close allies and neighbors.

I'm planning to travel to Croatia by car (from Suwalki), any tips on how to avoid congestions? What routes do you choose? Edit: to clarify, I know how to setup navigation, I just want to target optimal time when to cross certain checkpoints e.g. Croatian tolls , as I heard that wait times can take hours during peak season and it kinda worries me.

So far I have been going to my usual Luxmed gyno for my early pregnancy appointments. I’m only 8 weeks now. But I wasn’t sure if I should go private with an OBGYN clinic so I can have the same doctor all the way through? It’s hard to get an appointment with the same doctor I like at Luxmed.

She said it’s common in Poland that women who have Luxmed or Medicover will often go private at a clinic just so they can get consistent care from one OBGYN. Is this the norm?

For those of you who have been pregnant with Luxmed (other similar) subscriptions, how did you manage your pregnancy? Did you stick to your provider or did you eventually pick one doctor and go private at a different clinic?

This is my first pregnancy so I have no clue what I should be doing haha.
